Is it possible that baby Trot ends up beating out Baun, Dean, and White as the best ILB on the team by mid-season? I know it's early and an awfully small sample size but seems like that's where he's headed at this rate.

He was a starter for a big time program (not quite as big time as it was a couple years ago, but still big time).  He's a smart player (from all accounts) and being smart many times outweighs size, especially in the pass happy NFL of today.

There have been a few "small" LBs who have gone on to have great success.  It's early yet to annoint him, but a few guys of his stature, which I believe was one of the main reasons he fell as far as he did, have had success in the NFL.  It can be done.  It would be nice to see him do it.  I am definitely rooting for him to succeed, and yes, his name does play into that a bit.

Yeah even in just a handful of snaps, you can already see his instincts showing up. Playing much faster than you would expect out of a rookie ILB.

(1) Smith is a willing and good blocker, (2) Smith has to be covered by someone-same effect as blocking, and (3) that would telegraph the play because no one in their right mind takes Smith out of the game for Johnny Wilson, to do so would say, "its a run to Wilson's side." Why don't you compare Wilson and Smith's RAS scores for us.

But Smith is NOT a good run blocker.

His PFF shows not good blocker.  48.2.  Not good.  Many of the WRs last year were not good run blockers.  Wilson had the best PFF at run blocking for a WR of the top 20 WRs in the draft.

The goal should be to NOT give Smith and Brown every snap so that they're worn out by the playoffs - which is exactly what happened last year..  Brown has the size to be a good run blocker,  but, again,  he wasn't.  He was at 51.0.    Who was good?  the big WR,  Julio Jones. 66.7.  The replacement for Julio Jones as big WR is Johnny Wilson.  All good.

Good run blocker at WR - Johnny Wilson
Good run blocker at TE - Uzomah

The Eagles have a lot of players who aren't skill position players who could go on the field and block well, but it remains to be seen that they will actually do that,  so they should be keeping the likely best run blocking WR,  Johnny Wilson, and using him as a run blocker instead of Smith or Brown, and Uzomah, the 4th best TE run blocker in the NFL for run blocking.

Are starters playing at all on Thursday?  I have a chance to go but prefer not to if no starters

I haven't heard anything official, but I would guess they'll all get a series. But again, not official by any means.

Some idiot asked AJ Brown what he thought about the Patriots QBs he went up against today.

AJ Brown said I play offense I wasnt even over there.

The reporter then ducked out of the PC and walked away.

If it's a run,  the job of the defense is to tackle the runner.  NOT to follow Smith around the field on a run play.   So,  when you put the run blocker out there,  you're saying he won't be covered?  It's a run play,  and the good run blocker will block the db, instead of the Smith situation, where Smith will not do as good a job.  If you're worried about "it's a run",  try throwing to Wilson.

It's harmful and weird for the Eagles to keep their 2 best receivers on the field more than any other team.  The Eagles had more snaps for their top 2 WRs than any other team,  and AJ Brown got hurt in the last game and missed the playoff game.   Both Brown and Smith should be playing less, especially on run plays.

The 4th Q should be about handing to Barkley, over and over, and having the best run blockers on the field,  running out the clock, and preserving the win.

Don't worry,  Brown and Smith will still get plenty of snaps and targets.

I dont know who it was. I assumed a patriots reporter. I cant imagine anyone not knowing AJ Brown is a WR. Especially not an eagles reporter.

AJ Brown presser is at 41:28 in this vid.

Is the only significant injury thus far Sydney Brown’s knee? It’s been a great TC

Oren Burks knee. He hasn't practiced at all yet. Not a significant player but probably the biggest injury. DeJean, Campbell and CJGJ would be the next few that missed the most time.

Another MVP level season incoming.

Anyone watch the Giants Hard Knocks episodes? Is it worth me taking time away from Gilligan's Island reruns to watch?

Trotter "plays big." Watch him shed blocks with his hands, seen plenty of 240 lb LBs who struggle to get off blocks.

Like Edwards, he should fill out a bit the next couple years. Biggest issue will be his 4.8 speed in coverage, quick, good instincts, will do well with plays in front of him, but you don't want him covering a fast TE down the seam or a fast RB on a wheel route.

We traded a 3rd and two 7th's for Pickett and a 4th.

How is any of that worth a 2nd round pick to anyone else?  Pickett hasn't shown anything at all yet to bump his value up that much.

Yeah,  I was just looking,  I thought they got him for a 3rd.  Didn't realize they got a 4th back.

However,  if you look at other trades,  when the team trading for the QB actually needs a QB,  as opposed to the Eagles situation where they said "sure,  I know the spot you're in, out with the old, in with the new",  QB needy teams have spent big for 1st round picks.

Sam Bradford fetched a 1st rounder.   Sam Darnold fetched a 2nd, a 4th and a 6th, and this was a couple weeks before the draft.

The numbers on all 3 of those guys weren't particularly good. Passer ratings in the 70s and 80s.   Pickett has a winning record. Pickett took the Steelers to the playoffs 1 time out of 2.  Pickett has good athleticism.  Both those other guys are closer to statues with losing records.

I don't see it at all implausible for the Eagles to get a 2nd from a QB needy team for Pickett.  Maybe the Eagles might have to throw in another pick to even that out.   Winning record both years in the NFL.    The Eagles got a really good deal on Pickett,  what the Eagles paid is not what he's worth.  Buy low, sell high.

I really liked it. It was very interesting to ser the free agent market and draft play out.

His size is fine.  His other numbers,  40 time,  etc, weren't particularly good.

Here are the PFFs for the LBs in preseason games.

With PFF,  the larger number is better.  100 is the best.

LB
Vansumeren - 91.6
Nakobe Dean - 90.4
Trotter - 63.6
Devin White - 59.9
Zach Baun - 38.4

Yes. It was the most entertaining Hard Knocks has probably ever been. It’s a more unique look into the NFL that you really don’t ever get.

He didn't do the things at the combine, or at his pro day,  but he had his own special day in April and did it there.  Maybe you can throw out the numbers,  which were generally bad across the board, because he wasn't 100%.  The numbers aren't to be found on the ras, site,  but on the draft scout site,   https://draftscout.com/dsprofile.php?PlayerId=1052975&DraftYear=2024
