I think Milton Williams will be starting by November. I think he’s a better player until proven otherwise. I’m in a prove it to me zone with Davis.

I don't think they're playing the same position.  In the base, Davis is playing a 0 technique and they will go with 3 down linemen.  I think that means Williams will be playing  5/4 or a 4i/3 in base and Carter will be the other downlineman.    I think in nickel Davis is still like a 2i and Carter is more of the traditional 3 technique.  The only overlap is probably when they are in more of a dime clear passing down.  Even then, I don't know that you don't want Davis to create space for Carter.

If Davis isn't playing well, I don't think he'll continue to be the guy on base downs just because he's heavier. I think Fangio would play Williams and Carter and adjust the defense accordingly if he needs to. And weight doesn't necessarily mean much if you can't use it to your advantage. We've seen him do it at times, and other times he gets driven out of the play like he weighs 300 lbs. Depends on what version of Davis we are going to get this season. I think one of his weaknesses is he lacks raw power.

There’s nothing I can say to this.

Fat NT's are best

Williams is a different player than Davis and about 60 pounds lighter. They are not interchangeable.

Feels like this has come up at least 10 times now since we hired Fangio. Maybe we need a blog FAQ section to reduce the time spent covering the same things over and over.

Then some general thoughts:

Say for the first month of the season Jordan Davis sucks. How do you think Fangio will proceed? Continue to play him? If not, what will the adjustment be?

Ask again six weeks.

Has he ever sucked? His range seems to be from elite to average. So not sure what you mean.

Vagianni said this off season regarding last pre-season, if he could do it again, he would play the starters more.  Let's see if he was telling the truth.

Well pets be honest, he's not the one making this decision.

Jordan Davis has never been elite. He's been good at times. I think most of the time he's been meh and there have been times where he's sucked. He was horrendous in the Super Bowl.

Fat below the waist DTs are the best. People love to talk about Davis' size, but his frame isn't ideal for his position IMO. He's got a huge upper body, but lower body isn't what you'd think.

Jordan Davis gets so much unnecessary hate it's absurd.  He had a lot of great flashes last season.  Really excited for him this upcoming season.

He has not played well in the majority of his NFL games if we're being real. It sucks to admit, but we can do it. Let's not bury our heads in the sand on this one.

Howie isn't going to let go of Bradberry unless he gets an offer.  My sense is that they will want to keep McCollum but I don't think he's going to be snatched up if he's on the practice squad.

Davis has gotten all of the starting reps. I think there have been some good reports on him.  The question is how he holds up during the season and his conditioning.  There's no world in which I think the Eagles should trade him for a WR3.  I just don't think that make sense at all given his play and the fact that the back up, Tuipulotu, hasn't had a full healthy season.

On no risk waiving McCollum, Elijah Riley says otherwise.

Things you think and facts are not the same thing. He had 45 tackles last year in 500 snaps. How does that compare to other defensive tackles?

Apparently there are arrests being made following the investigation into Matthew Perry's death.  I sure hope he didn't get those drugs from friends -- could that BE anymore ironic??

Is that irony?

WTF Lurie. Why in the hell would the team block this from displaying other than YouTube?  Unless YouTube is paying the Autism Foundation big bucks for exclusivity. Shortsighted.

I take PFF with a grain of salt but I don't think he's played poorly.

It's an NFL thing

It was an attempt to shoehorn in a line from the show.  It didn't really fit.

Tuipulato is the issue. I think they brought in Ellis b/c they wanted a true NT on the roster, but his knee was shot.

Tuipulato hasn't shown the power for a two gap NT, if he did, that would free Davis for some snaps at 3-4 DE, where his size and athleticism could set up mismatches.

It isn't that Tuipulato is bad, he's be fine in a DT rotation in a standard 4-3 where the NT doesn't have to handle double teams all the time.

But he doesn't anchor well enough for the true NT role.

I think that its an NFL thing where they want you to have to go to Youtube to watch it, because it links in better with their revenue streams.  Likely it is actually a YOUTUBE restriction, because opening up the full browser in Youtube means you'd be more likely to stick around and watch other things from their algorithm.  Remember, Youtube is an NFL partner and they are ALL going to squeeze whatever they can out of it.  Youtube might shift the blame to their partner so that they seem in the clear, but it might be in their agreement with the NFL regarding team specific content (aka, on their 'official' channel).

You are correct about the shortsightedness.  But I think its much bigger than Lurie and the Eagles, and more specific to the NFL at large and the partnerships they are cultivating.  Just be happy it isn't exclusive content on YoutubePlus or something like that.  (It's only a matter of time, it seems)

I really want him to do the paper clip challenge. Keep trading until a 7th turns into a 1st.

Closest we ever got was a 7th to a 3rd.

2012 7th rounder -> picked Bryce Brown -> traded  to Buffalo for 2015 4th round pick -> traded to Detroit for 2016 3rd

And that 3rd was part of the trade to move up to #2 for Wentz.
