Fat below the waist DTs are the best. People love to talk about Davis' size, but his frame isn't ideal for his position IMO. He's got a huge upper body, but lower body isn't what you'd think.

He also plays without appropriate knee bend, which forces him upright where he gets walled off. And while he’s strong, he doesn’t really disengage well. His athleticism will jump out at you from time to time, so you can see why he was so attractive as a prospect, but as a player he’s kinda flawed.

I wanted Kyle Hamilton with that pick. My concerns were somewhat alleviated when Jerry Jones revealed their list of top prospects and he was on it. (The Cowboys have tended to draft well in the first round over the years, so I respect their scouting evaluations in general.)

It’s not Jordan Davis’ fault he was overdrafted. I think he’s good but not sure why a 2 down DT is going top 20. He did no more than Linval Joseph did in 22

Bad choice. Atlanta is where people named Simmons go to die.

WTF Lurie. Why in the hell would the team block this from displaying other than YouTube?  Unless YouTube is paying the Autism Foundation big bucks for exclusivity. Shortsighted.

You can watch it on Youtube.  You just can't watch a link on a shared site.

Backup NT is more of a need than 3rd WR. Outside of Davis, the only options they have are Tui and Mustipher.

This seems to be the source of preseason panic for Davis. If anything, this is technique rather than body. It's so clear his momentum is taking him left here. If he was in place and got displaced over there, I get it. That wasn't the case here.

So he occupies two defenders and gives a lb and a safety a free run at the rb and he's the problem?

Ravens backups giving him the business

I don't think they're playing the same position.  In the base, Davis is playing a 0 technique and they will go with 3 down linemen.  I think that means Williams will be playing  5/4 or a 4i/3 in base and Carter will be the other downlineman.    I think in nickel Davis is still like a 2i and Carter is more of the traditional 3 technique.  The only overlap is probably when they are in more of a dime clear passing down.  Even then, I don't know that you don't want Davis to create space for Carter.

I wonder if there is truly a "base” with this team.  I do think that we see a number of variations.  I wouldn’t be surprised if Davis lines up as a 1 technique as much as 0.  But that’s because I think the line looks will be varied and I suspect more stunts too.  Depends on gap assignments for a given call.  Gannon was starting to get more creative his last year.  That slipped seriously last year.  I expect more creative looks in the front 7 under Fangio.  Looks what trees he has in his assistants.  Himself, Gannon, Belichek via Vrabel and Crennel (with their own influences), Carroll (Norton Jr.), Zimmer/Donatelli. Washburn probably some family influence but also from his own OL coaching background is interesting. (Yep, he’s a Juan Castillo in that he switched from O coach to D coach. Bet he and Stout have interesting exchanges).

That's a pretty ugly rep from the back 7 as well.  None of Baun, Maddox, or White could make that play either?

I don't think it's really preseason panic as much as it is status quo. Most people came into the offseason skeptical of Davis already. I think it's more "Most people agreed this is the year Davis needs to break out because the team is really going to need him, and so far all reports coming out of camp is he's just been a guy. Hasn't stood out in any significant way."

To be fair to Baun and White, they were too busy running into blockers to worry about the guy with the ball.

You are correct. Davis clearly attacks the A gap. The fault on this play was Baun overrunning his run fit. Remember Fangio saying that Baun played the first four plays badly? Well, this is one of them.

I take PFF with a grain of salt but I don't think he's played poorly.

Help me out here.  His run defense is a 62, his pass defense is a 67 but his overall is 70. Math doesn’t work.

ESPN Fires RGIII with 2 years left on his contract

Don't worry, he'll still get paid his 7 figure salary for those two years.

That's my thinking. Can you get the same production out of Tuipuloto and Mustipher or a veteran who doesn't make it past cut down day? I think they probably could. They might not make a flash play here or there that Davis is capable of, but I think a rotation is 100% capable of giving you what he does. At this rate, there's no way they pick up his 5th year option so he's going to walk after 4 years. Get value while you can.

I think they pick up his 5th year option or sign him to a new contract before then.

Giant DTs like that are rare and the Eagles have one.  He has a top 1/4 PFF at the DT spot.

The Eagles defense had 9 players with a PFF over 70.  Davis was one of them.  I don't think the Eagles should be getting rid of their best players.

Since giant nt/dts are rare,  and since Davis is in the top 1/4 of all DTs,   I expect the Eagles to offer him a deal, probably as soon as possible to get him signed at a fair price.  I don't think he's been completely amazing, and because of that I don't think he gets huge money,  but he should get the fair, right price.

He tried hard but he was pretty terrible.

Closest we ever got was a 7th to a 3rd.

2012 7th rounder -> picked Bryce Brown -> traded  to Buffalo for 2015 4th round pick -> traded to Detroit for 2016 3rd

And that 3rd was part of the trade to move up to #2 for Wentz.

thank you, I was trying to remember the late round RB he flipped for higher picks. That was a good one.

I think that its an NFL thing where they want you to have to go to Youtube to watch it, because it links in better with their revenue streams.  Likely it is actually a YOUTUBE restriction, because opening up the full browser in Youtube means you'd be more likely to stick around and watch other things from their algorithm.  Remember, Youtube is an NFL partner and they are ALL going to squeeze whatever they can out of it.  Youtube might shift the blame to their partner so that they seem in the clear, but it might be in their agreement with the NFL regarding team specific content (aka, on their 'official' channel).

You are correct about the shortsightedness.  But I think its much bigger than Lurie and the Eagles, and more specific to the NFL at large and the partnerships they are cultivating.  Just be happy it isn't exclusive content on YoutubePlus or something like that.  (It's only a matter of time, it seems)

Really can’t be an NFL thing.  That would be against anti trust laws.  Has to be a team by team basis.  Their antitrust exemption is limited.  It’s an IT block that keeps product that does fall within the property subject to real intellectual property.  It’s kind of lazy as it blocks all their video.

BTW the Google algorithm for YouTube stinks because its inability to target ads like Google search.  I search info on a widget I want to buy and Google target ads appear (to the extent there is an antitrust suit on the practice).  I watch a cooking YouTube or football YouTube and they hit me with political ads.

his coverage was 70.3   It's weird how they get their numbers.  the math doesn't seem to add up.  but we don't know how they do it.

The Hyatt downtown.  The first week there some crappy hotel near the office but after that I moved to the Hyatt.

guessing client was in the heart of downtown and now one of the surrounding burbs then. Outside of sporting events I almost never venture into Minneapolis or downtown. Even places people might go to (breweries, etc.) might be in Northeast or other surrounding areas.
