Feeling great about this team. LB needs to sort itself out but seems like it will be better than last year at least. WR3 is probably missing, but still a chance Campbell is fine there. We havent seen him yet but hes the best WR of the bunch that have been on the field.

On the plus side, many questioned OL depth and its looking awesome.

Offense with new wrinkles is exciting.

Secondary not sucking is exciting.

I think we are in for a big year.

I agree. The most notable thing to me thus far is how much faster the defense is than last year. Much much faster.

Has Campbell played at all? I guess I’m just waiting for a trade, as I’ve seen very little at WR3.

My two cents:

QB: Hard to judge Pickett, with no protection and no WRs who can separate, hard to make plays. McKee looks better, but against worse competition. Should start McKee the third game and see how he looks against better defenders.

RB:  Gainwell is fine, he's a backup RB, Career 4.4 YPC, POs, 5.0 YPC. Good receiver and decent blocker. Really, stop complaining. Shipley is probably a year in the weight room from taking his job. TDP can run, but can he block and catch?

WR:  Ross would be a candidate if he was 22 instead of 28, that is, he shows flashes, but too old for flashes, needs to consistently perform. Ngata has good hands, but no separation. Covey can be a role player, Wilson can block, the rest . . .

TE:  Jenkins had a nice game but got injured, Uzomah blew a block, not good when blocking is your forte.

OL:  Fred Johnson is the top OT backup, nothing changed in this game. Keegan was solid, he's made the team. Toth started at C then moved to RT, versatile, but not that good at any spot, see him as the veteran on the PS. Steen was up and down then got hurt, may just not be a starting OG. Kinnard struggled a little, probably on the bubble. Scharping cut himself, Gates did nothing to earn a job. McMahon showed the movement skills they love, but probably needs to "red shirt" for a year.

DL:  Tuipulato struggled to anchor and while Mustipher played better, neither seems NT material. Ojomo played well and was pulled early, he's made the team. Booker had a strong showing, he may beat out those two.

ILB:  Dean and Trotter showed their strengths and weaknesses, both are smart, downhill players, Trotter plays bigger, neither has the speed and agility to excel in space. VanSumeran shows enough to keep him on the roster for STs and let him continue to learn.

OLB: Hunt didn't flash as much, Smith makes plays but not as consistently as someone with that talent - but I think he's still learning how to play in space, but if you just want him to run fast off the edge, Patrick Johnson can do that as well.

CB:  Ringo got beat a couple times but not badly, but Jet QBs couldn't take advantage. Hall made a really nice play. Jobe and Ricks aren't making the team, they're not awful, just too deep at CB.

S:  Maddox is simply better than Bradberry. And there's no way they're exposing McCollum. So it's obvious who's the odd man out. They'll take their time with Brown coming off the PUP.

Howie is looking for a WR3, TE3, RG and NT. Won't break the bank but will add a couple veterans and load up the PS.

Pretty spot on with most of these. However, I just don't understand why people are so quick to defend Kenny Gainwell and say stop complaining about him. He's 100% JAG. In the 16 games he played last year, 10 of them he averaged less than 4 ypc. In 7 of those game, he's at 3 YPC or less. His long up until his 32 yard TD run in garbage time up 31-7 against NYG was 18 yards. His long reception is 19 yards and it's safe to say the majority of his catches just come on dump offs. Not taking away from those yards, but those receptions aren't anything any other back can't do. There's not one thing that's special about his game. No problem with him being RB3, but there's no reason to say he's fine as RB2. I want more than what he brings to the table.

Think he’s been hurt and yet to see the field

Michigan men finish.

He was beaten on the play where Pickett got sacked but Shipley bailed him out. He never gave up on the play, though and picked his man back up. One other thing I liked was how big he looks. Big and nasty. When he was a sophomore at Michigan he weighed 350. He’s probably 325 now, or thereabouts.

Who do you think will dress as the backup Center?  In May, Hennessey seemed to be the obvious choice.

Will it be Toth?  He offers some game day versatility.

I fully support Toth's versatility on the practice squad. I don't want to see him on the active roster or in uniform on game days.

Toth’s versatility is that he’s poor at multiple positions. Unless Hennessy’s knee is bothering him I would expect him to be the backup. FWIW, Keegan worked some at center at the Senior Bowl and I believe Stoutland ran those workouts. Way too early for him to be the backup there. Give him a year.

Good question.  The announcers said something about Hennessy dealing with "something” and not being there. Didn’t see him on the sideline.  He apparently hasn’t had a good camp.  Note how much they played McMahon. I would be curious about @just relax’s take on McMahon’s play, Steen’s while he was in, Toth and Kinnard at RT.  Right now the candidates for backups seem to be: McMahon, Steen, Keegan, Toth, Kinnard and Johnson.  Johnson and Keegan sure look like locks.  Hennessy looks like he is outside looking in at this point.

You're right, I'm remembering it wrong. Maybe the roughing the passer was the unblocked play. Either way, that play is late in the 3rd quarter against reserves. I need to see him make plays against starters.

Of course, but that redirect shows he has the awareness and closing burst. You play who they put in front of you

Was he playing LT last night? He couldn’t be worse than that

Another preseason game with no snaps for Dankwah. I'm convinced they are trying to secretly get him through waivers.

Dean has played much better in games than he's done in practice. What will matter more to coaches?

No arguments with that. I'm happy he's making plays against the guys he's in front of. If he wasn't then we'd have a big issue. I just hope he can continue what he's shown when the games matter.

I am convinced he is so green they don’t want to play him.  I mean Scharping at LT?

He's green but not first year Mailata green that they couldn't put him out there with Will Grier. He was given the most money out of all the UDFA guys. I think they don't want to put anything on tape for other teams to see and have him develop on the PS.

I am hoping the reason that the Eagles insist on keeping Pickett as the #2 is for appearances only.  Most teams still have two preseason games left, and injuries happen. If a team gets desperate and comes asking about one of our QBs, it’s easier to deal Pickett for at least a break even pick if he’s listed as #2 on the depth chart.  If they demoted him now, all they are doing is killing his potential value.

I could, of course, be completely overthinking this. I just don’t see a reason for them to make any official change at this particular moment.

The Pickett situation reeks of "We evaluated him highly and there's no way our evaluations could have been wrong"

I hadn't paid much attention to McMahon on first blush but I went back and watched every snap of his and I'm glad I did. He was terrific. No mistakes. snaps were good. Run and pass blocking both solid. Nice block in particular on a screen pass where he was careful not to get too far downfield. Infinitely better performance than Toth last week and better than Gates this week. BTW that snap count graphic is way off. The Eagles ran 68 offensive plays. No way McMahon and Gates could combine for 111 snaps at center.

Ringo got beat a few times, but they didn't end up as catches. A couple almost were and were drops.

Reminded me of Winston Justice.

Gates went in at RG at first when Steen went down.
