imo this fails to make the connection that Mitchell kicked outside once DeJean returned. So, Mitchell isnt sliding inside on nickel. Its pretty simple. Mitchell is outside, and DeJean is the nickel.

DeJean has gotten very little work with the 1's though. He's been almost exclusively working with the 2's and even then he's been splitting reps. So he's gonna have to earn starting nickel. Today, Mitchell was outside and Avonte was back in the slot.

Not sure i understand... If Slay is #1 does that now mean Mitchell is #2 over Rodgers?

yes

Rodgers for somebody's 2nd?

One thing to consider is, if Mitchell really was good in nickel maybe they do want to slide him inside and have DeJean outside. Maybe for certain matchups, if DeJean we come to find DeJean struggles with smaller quick guys.

So all of the Rodgers/Ringo stuff just stops with Mitchell being CB2 now?

It feels like it's trending to Mitchell outside, then he moves inside and Rodgers is outside week 1 when they want a NCB on the field. Unless DeJean surges and wins the NCB job.

This is the 3rd year in a row dude is dealing with "arm soreness"

Just how much is he waxing his carrot now that he can't get rub n tugs anymore?

Watson is terrible.  That may go down as one of the most lopsided trades in NFL history.  Right next to the Herschel Walker trade.

The long term goal is Q on the outside and DeJean in the slot. DeJean is likely too far behind, so we'll start the season with Q and Slay outside, and Q will drop into the slot and Rodgers will play outside when they go nickel. Might have been different had DeJean not been injured, but Q being good in the slot helped make up for that.

I expect them to bring DeJean along slowly.

Was DeJean playing inside on the first team Nickel? I would guess that Ringo or Rodgers plays outside when they go to nickel.

DeJean isnt going to be riding the bench.

When I was in CO last week the Denver station was raving about his play in camp the same way the local guys are raving about Hurts. We'll see I guess.

Sean Payton loves Bo Nix.  He thinks he's Drew Brees version 2.0.

He's a rookie.  All these rookies are gonna have some rough games.  They're doing fine against the vanilla defenses in preseason, but once the real games start the coordinators are going to try to really mess with them.

All I heard was he didn't practice because of his hip. Nothing more than that.

If Mitchell is CB2 already, I'm going back to the thought that Rodgers could be traded. There wasn't much of a peep about Mitchell being in the race for CB2. We knew he was the nickel but based on every, single report, Isaiah Rodgers was CB2 with Ringo backing him up. The amount of positive information on Rodgers and the fact that he's been the "starter" could be looked at to boost his value. It's the most logical move to make. If he's not starting here, I see no reason for him to sign an extension here, unless he's looking at CB2 in 2025.

Unless Ringo is not a star, Rodgers should be trade bait.

Drum up some hype.

There's DeJean's route to the slot. Avonte doesn't exactly have an Ironman reputation.

If I were Jalen or Joe Burrow or any of the other QBs that signed what a few years ago would have been a few years ago a ridiculously lucrative contract should think highly of Watson. Wasn't the Watson contract the one that lit the fuse on the QB contract explosion? $230 million fully guaranteed.

I think Payton is a comically overrated coach. Nix may end up being good, but not with bad coaching and no supporting cast.

It was clear that he benefited from Brees. Payton sucks

I don't understand any talk of trading away any corners. They were hot garbage last year. They added 2 unproven rookies and a guy who hasn't played in a year and was never playing FT snaps in Indy. There's promise and potential there, but still unknown. Looking good in camp is one thing, but you have to see how rookies pan out. Rodgers hasn't played in a year. DeJean is coming off injury. Still questions and unknowns in the real games, and they don't play in preseason. At Safety, CJG was out for most of the year after an early injury last year and Brown is on IR. You want depth, not to trade away someone and then be thin on the bench. Ringo (4th round) and Ricks (Undrafted) have some potential but are also still unproven. Slay and Bradberry are likely gone next year.  They need to keep the talent and continue to develop and be ready for depth and injury.
