An interesting twist to roster cut down day this year is that the team can IR up to two players before the season, and those players can then return during the season.

Those do count against the 8 regular season, short-term IR designations, but I think the Eagles are in a good spot to use them this year to avoid a guy like Ricks or Kinnard from being poached.

Keegan and Hunt are dealing with injuries, so it makes sense to place them on injured reserve and it makes cutdown day a little less meaningful, at least in terms of who will do and don't keep. I also expect this to mean more trades happen, since fewer players are going to get cut. So it diminishes the chance we find a wr3 without making a move.

A common theme this camp has been talk about longer practices, and tougher practices.  I say thank God for that.  That was needed the way they finished last year…can’t wait to see how that translates into the regular season.

Somehow mixed up Brandon Whiting and Darwin Walker

About eight years ago or so I went with my parents to a local Ruby Tuesdays and saw Darwin Walker there eating with his family. The very next time I went with my parents to that same restaurant — maybe four or five months later— Darwin Walker was eating there with his family.

Hopefully they don’t IR Hunt. I bet Sterns gets IR’d along with maybe Ainas.

Ricks sure stood out in preseason more last year than he has this year. I think he’s battling Jobe for 11th and 12th on the secondary depth chart. I think I prefer Jobe because he is more impactful on special teams.

I also wouldn’t be surprised at all if the Eagles keep twelve secondary guys on the 53. I’m convinced they’ll keep 27 D vs 23 O and perhaps even 28/22.

They have a 1st invested in Mitchell. Trade 2 2nds and a 5th get DeJean and pick 78. They traded a 3rd to move up to get Ringo. That's a serious investment in those 3 players. Yes, they are unknowns, but all have extremely high pedigree and aside from DeJean, are looking like the future CBs for the Eagles.

Like you said, Rodgers hasn't played in a year so there's a question mark on him there. He's been getting the most positive press out of anyone on defense and until today was slated as CB2. If they can get another player or a mid-round pick for him it only makes sense. He's not going to sign an extension with the Eagles if Mitchell and Ringo are CB1 and CB2 next year.

I love how much Rodgers has embraced being an Eagle and Philadelphia and wish there was room for all 4, but I just don't see it happening.

Rodgers hasn't done ish yet, no one is trading for him more than a 6th. If he plays well & walks as a free agent they would get a comp pick higher than in a trade now. He's never been a starter and sat a year. Why do people think teams are going to trade a good value pick for him?

Rookies are always unproven. Everyone loved Jordan Davis as a rookie, tracked his snaps and criticized the coaches for not playing him more. After his 2nd season fans called him a bust. Barnett had a good rookie year & contributed in the Super Bowl, then regressed.

We have to see these guys actually play in real games not practice, before we start slating guaranteed 2025 starters. We certainly hope the secondary is rebuilt with these guys. I think Mitchell will be a very good player. Next year Slay & Bradberry will be gone, Maddox is made of glass & should not be on the roster next year either.

What if Ringo sucks or is average? What if Rodgers earns the starting job & extension becausehe ends up being that good? What if all Ringo can be is a good backup?

Jobe & McPherson suck. Can't rely on them for anything. Ricks can be depth, but still unproven and is learning a new system after being an undrafted free agent.

Let's see these guys play. They were GARBAGE last year, now fans think they have a surplus and trade commodities?

At the trade deadline, if these guys are ALL playing so good that they truly can afford to make a trade, maybe you trade if a desperate team gives a higher pick than the comp pick they would get. Maybe.

But if they want to have a playoff run, they need good depth.

One injury and fans would complain they should have kept Rodgers.

We aren't always guaranteed a comp pick as that also factors in the FAs we sign from other teams.

But I agree that we need to let the young players play in actual games to learn more about them. One thing people don't really talk about is how competition like we currently have helps push everybody to work harder and hopefully improve faster as players. There's no reason to trade a player away that could start, just because we have somebody currently beating him for the job.

When it comes to our current secondary depth, I think there's a lot of players that belong in the NFL, either as backups or ST contributors. Some simply aren't going to make the roster because the competition this year is better than last season. But guys like Jobe and Ricks have more experience now and should be better players than they were last season and if they are going to get cut due to "numbers," it may present a scenario where a team offers a late pick or late pick swap like we did with Denver last season for Okwuegbunam and we should just accept the offer. But a guy like Rodgers has played well in the NFL (2022 season) and has been a quality player throughout OTAs and TC. Even if he isn't going to start, he's helping make this a better team. Keep him.

Or they just need a DT to make it through game #3 of the PS.  Does anyone think that Poe was signed for OL depth or because Hennessy, Steen and Keegan are a bit banged up.  The cowpads are thin at DT.  They just traded for Phillips too so it does look like this late in TC they are still looking for some depth.

I believe Sydney Brown will be one of the eight designated to return.

Yea I know, but I've brought that up in numerous posts too. Not ignoring that at all. Would Rodgers sign a very team friendly extension based on the Eagles being the only team to give him a chance during his suspension? If he's starting material, he's going to be due a large contract. If that's the case, then Ringo is your 3d round investment back on the bench. I wouldn't be happy if the Eagles traded a 3rd round pick for Ringo just to have him as CB3.

The Eagles don't take their starting CB off the field. Last year, Slay played 98% of the snaps. James Bradberry played 95% of the snaps. Kelee Ringo played 17%. Josh Jobe played 21% of the snaps. Eli Ricks played 28% of the snaps.

In 2025, Mitchell is CB1, he's not coming off the field. CB2 is Ringo/Rodgers. Again, not coming off the field. If Ringo wins CB2, is Rodgers going to stay here to play 20% of the snaps? I don't see that happening.

My biggest hold ups with keeping Rodgers are the fact that the Eagles invested a ton in CB in the draft and that Rodgers isn't signed past this year. Rodgers only comes back if he's CB2. Then Ringo is your 3rd round investment playing 17-20% of the snaps.

I understand your logic, but I disagree with you on one point.  Where a player was taken in the Draft is ancient history at this point and it is also sunk costs.  A player doesn’t take his past Draft status on the field with him.  Past Draft status doesn’t block or tackle or run or catch.  The job of the coaches and Front office is to maximize the quality of play of the team as a whole.  Nothing more, nothing less.

He's on PUP already. In order to designate him to return, he'd have to be activated and then put on IR. But it makes no sense to do that since he can already be activated off PUP in October. Why waste a return designation for him when he can be activated "for free" off PUP?

Based on reports, Smith has really turned it on since the NE game. If anyone gets IR'd, it might be Wilson, who is taking a long time to come back from his concussion. If Smith has a good game this weekend, he makes the team, even if he was garbage to start camp.

They finally have depth which is why I think Rodgers can be moved.

CB1- Slay   CB2- Mitchell   CB3- Ringo   CB4- Chris Rock, I kid, Ricks   CB5- One of Jobe/McPhearson

Nickel- DeJean. Maddox is the backup here.

Safety1- CJGJ   Safety2- Blankenship   Safety3- Maddox   Safety4- McCollum

PUP- Brown

PS- Shon Stevens, Parry Nickerson, loser of CB5 battle, either Jobe or McPhearson

Rodgers as CB4 is better than Ricks but the return for Rodgers is going to be better than what Ricks brings.

I'm keeping Rodgers...I could not care less about trade value when we are just heading into the season. If we incur injuries I prefer the guy that is BETTER than the others over some 4-7 round pick for the following year or beyond. Rodgers stays .

You are correct.  Heck I'm surprised he signed to play a full season.

There is no reason to risk Sydney Brown. Have to keep him on PUP.
