Eagles are winning the SB this year. That should cancel out the collapse at the end of last year

With this new 2 player IR rule, does the player HAVE to return from IR this season? I keep seeing "designate to return" but that contradicts the other IR rule where you no longer have to designate players when placing on IR and instead can simply designate them when they are ready to return. 

My guess is you simply place them on ir, and you have a max of two guys you can then activate once the season starts.

I thought that for a while but getting Dotson here changed the WR a lot. Before Dotson, they needed another WR just to fill out the room. Now, they can be a little more flexible with who they keep. I don’t want to be a broken record but point to the receivers apparently just released. All signed this offseason, Watkins 6’3”, Hebert 6’1”, Harris 6’5” and probably soon Ngata 6’3”.  All in the 210+ lb weight size.  Hebert, the shortest, is 239. Brown is 226 and 6’1”.   Dotson is likely the slot but also the Devonta back up. Wilson is the big blocking WR, an integral part of Nick’s offense, and the backup to Brown.  Then again, I could be wrong.

That’s what I thought too but keep reading "designating to return” and heard on a podcast today that sounded like they have to return. If you have to designate them ahead of time you might as well just do the cut Lovato and place someone on IR Wednesday the old fashioned way to give you the optionality if you want them to come back or not.

McPhearson was in a boot at OTAs. I think the injury really impacted him. Eagles trainers and physicians know better than us whether that is likely to linger or he never fully recovers. But nothing I saw from Jobe or Ricks on Saturday looked better or worse than McPhearson on TV. I reserve the right to watch the All22 and revise that position.

I don’t know how that could work that way though because how could any team  guarantee a player wouldn’t reaggravate an injury and not be able to come back? Even if a team intends for a player to return, it’s totally out of their control.

I'd like him for practice squad.  Different that a typical OL,  compared in at least one draft profile to Patrick Ricard, which the Eagles don't have.  Short and fast and strong,  a RG but also FB/TE prospect.

All WR are interchangeable?  If you just do WR1, WR2, WR3,  I guess that means that you think they are.

I think WR1,2,3 must be a fantasy football term?

X receiver.  The Split End.  On the line of scrimmage.  Doesn't go in motion at the snap. 

Z receiver.  The Flanker Back.  Before there was "Flanker Back"  or FL in the stats,  that player would have been Right Halfback in the T formation. 

Slot receiver.  Left Halfback.  Or running back or fullback.

Each of those players has different attributes.  The X or Split End is typically big, they're on the line of scrimmage, they have to deal with press coverage sometimes.   So,  you have AJ Brown as X, and as a backup,  they have Johnny Wilson.   The Z is typically the "best" WR,  the best route runner, maybe the fastest as well.  That's D Smith, and backing him up, is Dotson.

The slot is a newer position and some teams don't do that much.  Teams that use a FB often, or another TE, or 2 RBs,  aren't using a slot much.  Those slots are typically fast or quick, otherwise weapony, and maybe not the champs at route running.

I think age matters to Howie. Early cuts are mostly over 25. By 25 or so, what you see is usually what you get, so these guys aren't seen as prospects, but what can you do for me this season. If they make the PS, it'll be as injury replacements, not as "futures."

So this gives Ricks (23) an edge on Jobe (26). VanSumeran (24) v Burks (29). Hall (23) v Lewis (26). McMahon (23) v Hennessey (27) and Toth (28). Smith (23) v Campbell (27).
