I was given that movie as a Xmas gift many many many years ago. I still have not seen it yet.

I'm with you, I've never seen it lol. I have never seen Rudy either. I could not care less about people that played a snap or 2 because people felt bad for them lol.

You aren’t answering the question. When someone lines up in the slot, what position is it the majority of the time?

Also, do majority of teams use 11 personnel?

I agree that this conversation is a matter of semantics - but "WR3” I think originated more as a qualitative term maybe imported from fantasy football or even baseball (ie starting pitching).  For example, Ceedee Lamb predominantly plays out of the slot but he’s a WR1.

Maybe DeJean can keep bulking up and play some FB because I'm not so sure he's cut out for DB at the NFL level after that preseason game.

You must have missed the Nolan Smith to FB conversation!

I think it's time for my annual "Invincible" viewing, along with my annual LII viewing.

That's funny you mention that. My Dad and I have the annual Rudy and Remember the Titans viewings before the season starts. Does anyone else have a football movie they watch every year before the season?

Not a movie, but I use YouTubeTV and I was excited to see Coach reruns back on TV.

I’ll watch North Dallas 40 if I see it on TV, but that is a rare occasion (especially nowadays where you don’t really flip channels anymore).

Ignore the story of Rudy as there are lots of things in the movie that aren't true and just watch it with the intent of watching a good underdog story and you might really like it. The football scenes and music in the movie are terrific.

I've never seen North Dallas 40. There are a few older football movies I need to watch for the first time or start to finish rather that just bits and pieces. Brian's Song, The Longest Yard (OG, not Sandler), All the Right Moves to name a few.

Time to work your magic Howie and trade Bradberry for a conditional 7th in 2027.

Yeah well that's not alone... one of my favorites is Remember the Titans...if you enjoy it as well don't look up all the lies that were fabricated for that.

I'll still watch it cause it still good just not what really happened at all.

As I said a couple times now, I'm not ready to offer a final grade on him and I realize he is a work in progress.  What I'm saying is that he is close to moving into the "real risk" category, i.e. we aren't there yet.  I'm basing that off of the combination of these things:

1) he's a 1st round pick, we "paid" high in draft capital and he needs to be a really good player to be worth it

2) he did next to nothing his entire 1st year and I'd expect a 1st round edge rusher to flash and beat defenders a lot more than he did ; you could point to his lack of snaps which is true but it also means the coaches didn't feel he should get those snaps

3) from what I've seen (I was careful in previous posts to explain that I haven't seen all his plays) he has not produced much this preseason when I would have thought we'd see clear improvement, high level of pressure, more splash plays, etc. as should be really hungry and he is going against the backups

4) there has been very little written or talked about him from all the people covering the team regarding how much he has improved, is ready now, etc., i.e. the smoke signals aren't all that positive.

#4 from above is the least important but you'd still expect a good bit more excitement about a 1st rounder if he is ready to make the leap.  So in summary, I want to see what happens over the first six or seven games and if doesn't show anything then I'd put him in the "real risk" category.  Note, that wouldn't mean he ends up a bust but rather that he would be in danger of doing that.  Finally, we saw what happened with BG so for sure it might take another year or two but BG was the exception.

Based on what virtually every scouting report said on him coming out of college, it would have been crazy to expect him to bust out on the scene as a pass rushing god. That just wasn't his specialty in college and scouts all acknowledged he needed to develop that upon entering the NFL. As I said, the Eagles  drafted  two 1st rd picks and had the luxury, at the time, of having a pro bowler already in place as the starter. So they believed they had the time to give him to develop and it was a perfect situation. During that time, he'd be learning from one of the best --- a player that was very similar physically to him.

So here we are, about to enter year 2 and Smith should see an increased role. Playing in the preseason against fellow backups and next to fellow backups, he was able to produce some sacks and pressures as well as receiving a good PFF grade for his overall play. How is that not encouraging? Imagine how many more opportunities might arise if he's playing next to guys that might actually make this team --- you know, the kind of guys that actually draw double teams and/or get interior penetration.

Also something people rarely bring up in the Nolan Smith rookie season evaluation is how sacks were down across the board for this team. That's to be expected when the coverage drops off a cliff like it did. Even our best pass rusher, Reddick had less sacks and pressures than the year before despite playing more snaps.

Yea, most are like that. Friday Night Lights too. Loved reading the book and loved the movie just as much despite the made for movie changes. Makes me wonder, what's the truest to reality football or sports movie out there?

Another favorite sports movie of mine is Miracle. I'm sure there's some story bending for that too though.

He’s a first round pick who has done next to nothing. I expected more last year yet I didn’t expect much. What I did expect was a big step forward this year. That didn’t happen in camp. I’ll be looking to see if it happens in the first half of the season. If it doesn’t then he goes in my "real risk” list. We aren’t there yet. In any case, Nolan certainly isn’t over the hump yet. That’s it.

The Ravens and 9ers use FBs extensively,  and they were 2 of the 4 teams who went to the Conference Championships.

Teams with FBs, last year at least, did better than teams without FBs.  The Ravens have been good with Lamar and Ricard all along.

Yea what's Lamar's playoff record with his important FB?

Stoll or Parham JR. (if he is cut) will be the team's 3rd TE, possibly even 2nd at some point.

Bring him back

There have been historically deep TE draft classes for about 4 years now and all the Eagles walked away with is the once retired, oft injured Grant Calcaterra and UDFA Jack Stoll. There have been veteran TE's available via trade and FA and they did the bare minimum in those avenues trading for Albert O and signing the already released CJ Uzomah. They took this approach while knowing their starting TE misses 3-4 games per year. Frustrating to see them in the current situation at TE knowing there have been plenty of good TE available.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are releasing veteran defensive back Terrell Edmunds, according to NFL Media. The team is hoping to bring him back via the practice squad if he is not signed to another team's 53-man roster.

Stoll will be back, hopefully to the PS. Not my cup of tea at all, but he's the only guy left

Saving up to draft Colston Loveland next year

I still think we end up with one of the TE's from Cinci
