So I have it as 17 remaining. What are you showing?

But in many cases, knowing whether the ball crossed the goal line or not isn't what's at issue. The question is often whether the knee was down at the time the ball crossed.

For example, suppose Hurts is doing a sneak at the goal line and is surrounded by bodies. Suppose further that the technology says that the ball crossed. How on earth could an official make a determination that his knee was or was not down (remember he's blocked by bodies and no one can see) when the ball crossed?

Yes, of course.  It does, however, take one element out of the equation.  And the data provided as to when the ball crossed the line could be matched up with the time that the knee was down.

There is always going to be the human element to the officiating but technology can and should be used to improve the game.

The book (North Dallas 40) is better than the movie, IMHO.

A made for TV movie that is underrated is ESPN’s The Junction Boys.  Now it may be that because I grew up in Texas during the days of high school level 3 a days, it might be because I spent a year at Texas A&M but everyone knew about the legend of the Junction boys.  Imagine in the day of NIL and the transfer portal having a coach do what Bear did in 1954. @bpac55, I know you advocate tougher practices so that’s the movie for you.

I think I watched that a while ago. Anyone remember Playmakers on ESPN?

I'm not tracking it, I just saw those two names reported earlier not on your list

These are the names that have filtered through over the past twenty four hours:

Ayedze, Gottlieb

Foelsch, Kevin

Grier, Will

Hebert, Griffin

Jackson, Tarron

Jenkins, E.J.

McPhearson, Zech

Mustipher, P.J.

Nichols, Lew

Nickerson, Parry

Okwara, Julian

Poe, Jason

Ross, John

Sam, Andre

Scharping, Max

Smith, Brandon

Stephens, Shon

Watkins, Austin

That's 18 names, putting us at 72. Nineteen to go. It's possible I may have made an error or two. I'm still showing Laekin Vakalahi on the roster and I'm not sure he ever counted in the first place.

I have 19.  Harris is the one you are missing.

1 Gottlieb Ayedze
2 Kevin Foelsch
3 Will Grier
4 Jacob Harris
5 Griffin Hebert
6 Tarron Jackson
7 E.J. Jenkins
8 Zech McPhearson
9 PJ Mustipher
10 Lew Nichols
11 Parry Nickerson
12 Julian Okwara
13 Jason Poe
14 John Ross
15 Andre' Sam
16 Max Scharping
17 Brandon Smith
18 Shon Stephens
19 Austin Watkins Jr.

Were those two announced today or yesterday?  I missed them.

Has any team done well on KRs this pre-season? I saw no explosive plays from the eagles, which is not exactly shocking, but with 2 massive hits, and 0 big returns it feels like that rule has not been working as intended. Actually seems to be having the complete opposite effect of what was intended.

Not a movie, but I use YouTubeTV and I was excited to see Coach reruns back on TV.

I downloaded the entire series a long time ago, so I have all of the episodes. I haven't watched in a few years though. But I have recently had a hankering to watch some... or maybe that's a hunk o cheese that I hanker for?

They have evolved from the mystery hip pointer injury.  Now using MRI technology to stash a player.

I think 49ers struggle with their schedule and don't agree with a lot of people thinking they're going to be #1

I think NFCN and AFCE will be a problem for 49ers

Chargers are that team you think Herbert is going to take them to the playoffs but the team falls flat. Also doesn't help to be in the same division as the alien

Agree that Texans take AFCS. I'm just not a believe in Jags but Texans have been built pretty well and I'll be rooting for Mufasa

I projected the games and tried to curb my pro-Eagles and anti-Dallas and SF biases. If Trent Williams isn't back and playing, SF is in real trouble.

I feel like the Chargers are hyped every year and then crash and burn. They have no fans in LA - none. And not sure I am a believer in Harbaugh. Herbert seems to be another Carson Palmer -- nice stats and everyone keeps thinking he'll win something, but it never happens.

I try and stay true to my game predictions, but I would likely bet the under on 10 wins for Jacksonville. I think Lawrence is living off hype and that will be one of the worst contracts in NFL history.

Teams aren't showing what they really want to do.  On either side.

Way too much Cover 0 last year.  Sure thought they ran more Cover 6 and Cover 4 but 0% in Cover 2 seems low.

I don't think there's any real takeaways from pre-season coverages. Also, Fangio's coverages are different than standard cover-4 and cover 6 looks.  Fangio's cover 4 and cover 6 can look similar because of the way they do zone match coverage.  I don't think Fangio runs cover-2 from what I have read.  He has a cover 9 which is sort of cover 3.  He did blitz more than I expected.

If you take out Vakalahi they are at 68 ... 15 to go.

I have it at 67 with 14 to go...but that's including Ainais Smith to IR. That's with taking Vakalahi out.

I'm still showing Armani Rogers on the roster? Is that correct or did I miss him getting cut?

To this point, I think the only two guys cut thus far who MIGHT have been on anyone’s mock 53 are Ross and McPhearson. And even then, they wouldn’t have been on very many.

I had Ross on mine over A.Smith after the 1st preseason game, but after that I saw enough from A.Smith to keep him on over Ross.

And now with A.Smith going to IR, they may keep Campbell now.

Lions will release QB Nate Sudfeld, Hendon Hooker wins No.2 job

It appears that Hendon Hooker has won the backup job in Detroit and the Lions are releasing veteran quarterback Nate Sudfeld according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.
Sudfeld backed Goff up in 2022 and spent last season on injured reserve before competing with Hooker this summer.
Sudfeld made two appearances for the team during the 2022 season and saw a lot of playing time in the preseason this year. He was 27-of-51 for 292 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions.
Hooker was a third-round pick in 2023 and spent his rookie season recovering from a torn ACL. The Lions appear to feel his recovery has gone well enough to put him in line to run the offense should anything happen to Goff.
Meanwhile, Sudfeld has played well during the preseason (as has Hooker) and will, at the very least, find his way onto a practice squad this season.

Maybe I'm too enamored with his draft position and 40 time, but I'd try and bring Ross back on the PS. For a guy who hadn't played in years, he did show some flashes in camp. Can't hurt to keep him in the building.

You are right.  I didn't move Smith to IR in my count.
