I said the same thing yesterday. I have a hard time believing there’s a team out there that doesn’t need a solid back up linebacker and St help. Frankly, I thought San Francisco might be in on him with Greenlaw hurt and that he played a good amount of snaps for them in the Super Bowl.

I think he had a rough Super Bowl when he played fwiw

He wasn’t great but it’s also him coming into the biggest game of his life and after not playing much for a month. Plus i tend to think he’s not a starter but as a backup you probably can get by for a couple weeks if it’s not going against mahomes and the chiefs

Colts cut Jake Witt, OT, who was someone a lot liked last year for the 7th round.

Jake Witt (born February 7, 2000) is an American professional football offensive tackle who is a free agent. Witt played college football at Northern Michigan and was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League (NFL). He was a tight end on the team before a position change during the 2021 season. He had previously played college basketball at Michigan Tech.

Blocking Tight End and backup OL.  ras compare to Zach Gentry, another big, blocking TE just cut by the Raiders after some good seasons with the Steelers.  He had a 82 blocking grade from PFF one of those years.

Witt is a project OT with great pro day numbers.  Perhaps he's a Lane of the future.  Perhaps not.  He's a plausible project for Lane of the future. But, now, the only actual person on offense, at skill positions, that can run block well is Goedert.  Witt has the same 40, actually .01 better than the 82 run blocking PFF TE.  His athleticism,  with more weight, is the same who is good at doing what the Eagles should want.  He was drafted last year, then IR, which might have effected his development,  because 1.5 years at OT, or OL at all, is all he had.   Tight End before that.  College basketball before that.

"He played for the school's eight-man football team (they did not have a full team, as they did not have enough players) and playing wide receiver, recorded 102 receptions in 18 games while being named all-state."

9.80 ras as a OT, with a 4.89 (good enough) 40, also was all state wide receiver in high school, and Tight End in college.  Seems good enough for blocking TE, which the Eagles don't have.

Also,  Zach Gentry,  proven great TE blocking in the NFL at times, and 70+ every year.  One would take a TE position, the other would take an OL position.  Could do both, when maximum size is called for.

Yeah I think Howie basically said they opted to keep some under control guys in certain cases and at LB I think BVS and Trotter aren’t better now but are future bets

Oh for sure. I think Trotter Jr and BVS have more long term upside than Burks. Burks is better option for right now in terms of depth chart. But trotter and BVS are young and provide potential at the position beyond this year.

Seranthony does what Seranthony does ... a nail biter, but the Dodgers did not score and the Orioles win.

Didn't seem like too many surprises to be honest.  Only one center and two tight ends but moves can be made at any point.  Bradberry staying was expected though not wanted.  Couple guys at WR that will probably be on the PS.

Afan, of all the crap you’ve said and cans of worms you’ve opened, this was the worst.

Yeah, because there's me saying "look the Eagles are doing exactly what I was saying would be great and almost everyone else was saying "no, that's crazy, you can't do that".  I'm a prophet, or persuasive.

Yes, you will see VanSumeren doing great things on offense if they have him do some offense things.   There are many others on defense who would be great or at least useful on offense.   We're seeing VanSumeren doing well doing a fairly complicated and difficult wide receiver route, compared to go out there in the backfield, run at the sideline and turn around.    If he can do that, he can do simple stuff, and there some areas where he should be able to shine.  If those routes are merely ok, the kind of run blocking he'll give will be great.  Downfield blocking on pass plays. blocking for the receiver after he makes the catch.

Nolan Smith and Devin White both were RBs in high school,  they should be able to carry the ball, go in motion, take pitches, short routes, pass protection.   You could have Saquon do pass protection, but having him running a route would be better,  if Nolan Smith or Devin White were pass protecting from the RB spot.   Pass protect well, they're the right size for that,  or a short pass in the flat, which could turn into a big play because those guys are big and fast.  Their numbers are roughly comparable to Saquon's.   Heavier by 4-6 pounds.  Baun brings HS QB, lots of running, state offensive player of the year as QB.  And many more.

The first 24 hours after the initial 53 with the PS being built is always kind of an exciting time. You have to think Thomas Booker, Patrick Johnson, Tristin McCollum and James Bradberry are the last 4 on the roster who aren't safe for any waiver claims or FA signings.

Julian Okwara is visiting Arizona.

Is he planning to check out the Grand Canyon?   Good stuff.   Wrong time of year to visit Tempe.  Much nicer in Flagstaff right now.   I hope he has a good time.  Grand Canyon should be on everyone's bucket list.  It ain't just a giant hole in the ground.

You know what’s going to be cool about week 1?  The Packers *seem* to be a team that took preseason more seriously.  (I actually have no idea because I paid no attention to anyone this preseason, including the Eagles…but that’s what I seem to have heard).  We know the Eagles don’t.

I’ve been very moderate in my interpretation of their spa approach.  It’s weird blowing it off but I totally understand their hesitation.  Under the assumption that 2024 doesn’t demonstrate there is a big quality difference between the Eagles and Packers, it will be interesting to see two seemingly high quality teams with very different preseason approaches square off while dealing with the typical week 1 cobwebs.

I think it’ll go a long way towards reinforcing or damning their preseason process.

We don’t really know which team took preseason ( or Training Camp in general) more seriously.  I realize GB may have played offensive starters a few snaps in a preseason game, but that tidbit is a small drop of water in a bucket.

Belichick was on the McAfee  show the other day saying how it’s hard to learn anything about players in preseason games….saying they are just too vanilla.  Like him or not, I would’ve thought an old school crotchety coach like him would have put more stock in them.  He said coaches learn way more in practices and scrimmages.  He said coaches don’t really know what kind of team they have until at least 3-4 regular season games have been played anyway.

By all accounts, this TC had more practices, harder ones, and longer ones.  Many players said it was their hardest one as an Eagle.

Just my opinion, but I don’t think the starters playing a series or two in a preseason game matters all that much.

Wasnt he a georgia guy as well?

I havent followed  Cines career in the NFL but he cant be worse than bradberry at safety.

I liked him coming out of college, IIRC he had a back? Injury that required some pretty invasive surgery and him making it back to football shape was a shocker.

Last time I was there i conducted a very serious science experiment.

Did you know…sunrise and sunset, are the exact same thing except the sun goes in the opposite direction, at the Grand Canoyn.

More shockingly…sunrise/sunset…beer tastes the same at both, at the Grand Canyon.

By the end of the 1Q of the first game, the starters have as much experience as they'd get in 3 exhibition games. Against real teams playing at a regular season pace.

Preseason games are for player development and evaluating fringe guys.

Practice is where starters learn a new scheme and make it second nature.

Um. 25.6 is not higher than 25.7.

Broke his leg iirc, had a good showing in the recent preseason game but aside from the draft pedigree not sure what separates him from McCollum at this point. I also liked him out UGA, so wouldn’t mind him replacing Bradberry but we likely need that roster spot for a TE or C.

Oasis is back.

Good times.

I can't wait for Liam and Noel to start passively aggressively taking shots at each other and the gigs get cancelled when one leaves in a huff. They may make £400m+ from the tour, enough for 1 more divorce for each, but there is no money or person in the world that will stop the Gallagher brothers from fighting each other. Its what they do.

Having seen them a couple of times, decent to good live band but the fans make the gig.

Who are the inactives with this initial 53 for Game 1? I'm thinking

-McKee - Emergency QB.
-Keegan - Only plays 1 position. If Jurgens is injured during game, Dickerson slides to C and Steen goes to LG.
-Wilson - No ST upside. If one of the WRs gets hurt, Covey becomes WR3 and they'll be using Calcaterra as the slot in many sets.
-Hunt - Though I wouldn't be shocked if they sat Nolan Smith ahead of him.
-DeJean - Still working his way back from injury. If they think he's healthy enough, Ricks would be inactive.
-Bradberry - Doubt he's still on the team by Game 1. But if he is, McCollum and Maddox would be back up safeties before him and both have more ST upside.
