Been out of the loop. We're running with Saquon, Gainwell, and Shipley for the active roster at RB I assume?

You bet.  At some point this season my assumption is it will be more Barkley, Shipley, and Gainwell (assuming Saquon stays healthy)

Thank god Howie finally got his head out of his ass and is trying to do something about our shortage of DB's /s

Seems like Ricks or Bradberry live another day

Looks that way but suspect they may add a bruiser for 3rd downs at some point (Perine would've been ideal).

Some on here think Shipley will unseat Gainwell as 1st change backup this year but for me that competition is a wash and Gainwell may well hold on.

Who would they have cut if they claimed Womack? Ricks? Bradberry?

Time flies, but Gainwell is already entering the final year of his rookie contract.  If the competition is a wash then the Eagles should be giving Shipley every opportunity to show whether he can take that role, to make a more informed decision if Gainwell is needed beyond this season or not.

Can't imagine Gainwell commanding a lot on the FA market but every dollar counts.

Barkley is 230 lbs. Which is why you use Gainwell (Shipley will have to show he can do it in real games) to take the load off Barkley so you can use him in high value snaps.

People underestimate Gainwell, he's not a great RB, but he's consistent, does everything decently, and isn't a liability. That's what you want from a backup who gets 5-7 carries and maybe a couple receptions a game.

You know what.   Because of this post it just occurred to my that the Mitchell and Ness Dawkins jersey (purchased in 2019) that is supposed to be from 1996 is number 20 not 24.

Time for you to lawyer up and sue the ****.

Im concerned that Gates was such a late add (probably because he really stinks), and when the eagles signed him, twitter said- he stinks. He was one of those guys who you really expect is just a body to help get through camp. And now, Hennessy is gone, McMahon was released and signed to the PS... and it seems like Gates is somehow, quickly penciled in as the backup C.

How did this happen? Did he suddenly become good as soon as he shared space with Stoutland?

Maybe Toth sucks too. But why should I not be concerned about Gates? Wouldnt Toth, who has been in this system for years now be better?

Game 1 to game 17 is a long run.

Keegan and McMahon probably aren't ready to play right now, but give Stoutland 3 months . . .

Gates is your short-run "break glass" option. But if the kids progress, I'd advise him to rent, not buy.

To be clear, Dawkins wore 24 in preseason his rookie year, NOT during the regular season. He switched just after final cuts and before the opener. It's the same as Quinyon Mitchell switching from 30 to 27. Keith Jackson did the same thing as a rookie when he switched from 84 to 88 prior to the season opener after John Spagnola was cut.

If his holdout extends well into the season and our pass rush is struggling, is there any world where we trade for him back and pay him? Sounds ludicrous but also a lack of pass rush could destroy the defense as a SB contender. Would be a huge risk paying an aging vet if he declines like Bradberry but also not sure how else to pivot in the worst case scenario.

For whatever reason I don't think the Eagles want to pay him. No one in the NFL seems to want to. I have no idea why. Other guys are getting paid. He's really good. I guess it's possible if he's still holding out a month into the season and the Eagles pass rush is absolutely awful, they could panic trade for him back, but I'd put that at like 5% odds and that's 5% if the pass rush is terrible. If it's merely passable I'd put it at 0.5% and if it's good, 0%.

Allen is far and away the second best QB in the league behind Mahomes so to have him as the most overrated is ridiculous. Mahomes and the Chiefs have been his boogeyman but that doesn’t diminish his talent. If his defense doesn’t implode in that playoff game where they gave up that 13 second drive, it’s a different story. He was incredible that game.

I don’t think Hurts is overrated, but I put him in the category with Tua and Purdy surrounded by elite talent.

I agree Allen is the 2nd best QB in the League.  I can see an argument that you think he's overrated if someone were to put him in a 1b category to Mahomes.  I think Allen is closer to Hurts and Lamar Jackson than he is to Mahomes.  I think there's an argument for Joe Burrow as the number 2.

Retiring numbers is fine, you just can't be too free/loose with it.

It should be a VERY rare occasion. The way the Eagles retire numbers and also have off limits numbers makes no sense.

For instance, Randall Cunningham revolutionized QB play and is the reason so many of us are Eagles fans, myself included. His career as an Eagle was also incredibly disappointing and full of what ifs. Injuries and immature selfishness were scattered across his 11 years here and he was benched for Rodney freaking Peete. He's not an Pro Football HOFer. Huge impact on the game, exciting and a fan favorite. Is that a reason why 12 should never be worn again? It's not retired, but no one has worn it since.

Compare that to Harold Carmichael. 13 years as an Eagle. Pro Football HOF, when he retired he was the Eagles leader in games played, consecutive games played, TDs, receiving TDs, receptions and receiving yards. Number 17 has since been worn by Mitch Berger (a punter who played for 7 teams), Lonny Calicchio (who?), Nelson Agholor, Alshon Jeffery and currently by Nakobe Dean...a freaking LB.

You want to tell me that Randall's 12 has more significance than Carmichael's 17? It doesn't make any sense.

Players want to get paid.  Riddick's hold-out aims to get a new and rich contract.  By staying away, he is losing his game checks, may also being fined, which is going against his intention of making money.   At same point, he would come to terms with reality and reports to duties.

Huff is paid to be Reddick, and Nolan Smith was drafted to be Reddick.  Huff/Sweat/Nolan Smith/Graham have to get it done.

I read that in Kamala’s voice

A lot of delusion from Gianta fans heading into the season.  I see a lot of people guessing between 7 and 11 wins for them.

Gainwell did not play that well last year.  He looked worse than he did in the prior season and he was heavily utilized in situations where they would have benefited from a more dynamic back.  He was the 2 minute drill RB which was nonsensical given that he wasn't a better pass catcher than either Scott or Swift.  He would be OK as a number 3 RB.  I think one of the reasons he drew the ire of the blog last season was his utilization.
