Here is why I’m asking these semantic questions:

In 2017, Howie had the position Wolf has now. Additionally, Joe Douglas had the role of GM. The responsibility Venn diagram worked quite a bit differently than it may in NE, but had we replaced Howie with a minority candidate, would we have gotten 2 3’s? If we had replaced Joe with a minority candidate, would we have gotten 2 3’s? If we had replaced both, would we have gotten 4? Or would neither allow it because they shared too much power?

What if NE hires a minority GM after Wolf? Will he earn them 2 3’s?

I don’t know if you misspoke, but it’s always the team losing the guy that gets the two 3rds, not the team hiring.

Joe Douglas wasn’t ever GM here. He was vice president of player personnel. We didn’t have a GM in 2017. Howie also had the most power and operational control, so if we had replaced Howie for whatever reason, yes, the team who we poached from would get the picks (technically speaking, since this rule wasn’t around in 2017). Had we replaced Joe Douglas, no. That team would not get picks because it’s not a GM or comparable position.

If Patriots decide to hire Brandon Hunt tomorrow and give him Wolfs control over the roster, yes, we would receive picks. If they hired Hunt tomorrow and gave him a Joe Douglas role where he’s second fiddle to Wolf, no we wouldn’t get picks. If they hired Hunt, gave him whatever title and lied about his operational control and responsibilities, the NFL would probably drop some severe penalties on them for undermining the rule.

Part of me hopes him picks up RG in camp. The power, strength and size he'd bring to the line would be ridiculous. He's only here for a year so if he's an eventual Lane replacement, he'd need an healthy extension since Lane isn't retiring. If he looks reformed this year I'm sure someone is going to try and pay him.

He had really good knee bend before his injuries. IF IF IF the knee us good, he could play RG.

IF.

It seems teams generally hire our talented people to positions that are 2nd in control. It happened with Catherine Raiche, being second in charge to Andrew Berry (did we even get picks for him?). And it happened with Ian Cunningham.

We continuously get the hockey assist with coaches and personnel people and I just think its too frequent to be a coincidence. Teams are finding ways around letting the comp picks fly.

In a sense, the NFL created an extra hurdle for these minority candidates because its created another stepping stone they must hit before rising up the ranks completely. Teams wont hire them directly to the top roles because they dont want to give us a competitive advantage of receiving the comp picks.

Now, these people are no longer with our organization. They will eventually get the top job, and we will get nothing. The Browns and Bears will get the picks for Cunningham and Raiche.

We didn’t get picks for Berry because he left a few months before the rule passed and was put into effect. He was also only here 1 season so he wouldn’t count anyway since it has to be 2.

I agree with the rest. Other NFL teams keep poaching this front office to second fiddle jobs who eventually might get GM jobs and get them picks. It’s not fair but it is what it is. Part of that is on the Eagles too for not having a clear second in command that they could have promoted Raiche or Cunningham to. Instead they have Hallaby as assistant GM who doesn’t really have any personnel control at all and is just a cap guy (whose leaving because he wants more in his responsibilities) and Ferrari as the other assistant GM who really doesn’t do anything besides keep up with the rules of the league. Next guy in the power dynamic is Big Dom which is just silly. But it seems Howie doesn’t want a Joe Douglas like position again, so that’s what happens because of that. People leave for better job opportunities.

Pretty cool of AJ to send this to Ainias Smith.  Idk about all that talk about him being a bad teammate.  Seems like he is a good leader who wants to push his teammates

That’s awesome.  Your Dad looks great for 80.  Have I mentioned how handsome you are recently? Will you take me next year?  Thanks in advance! :-)

It would be interesting to try lane at rg and Becton at rt. I think that would be a better plan, and if Becton plays well, the team could extend him without worrying when lane would retire.

This is a very negative spin. Teams hire our guys because they are well-trained. Guys come to work for the Eagles because they know this is a step into the big time. Every comment about the Eagles front office lists them as top five.

What’s negative that I said? I didn’t think I said anything negative at all. I didn’t say it’s a bad work environment. They currently have one of the best GM’s in the league. That’s going to cap career development for lesser positions which means they ultimately move on to somewhere else to take their next step for their personal growth. Howie doesn’t need a lackey or someone to help him but other GM’s do, so naturally, they eventually go somewhere else to take that next step to potentially being a GM someday. Just somewhere else.

Take Hallaby for example. All of the reporting out there is Lurie would pay whatever he wants but he still decided to part ways. Why? Because he wants to be a GM someday in the NFL and it’s not going to happen here. So he’s leaving to find an opportunity to expand and grow. Just like any other business in the world.

Everyone that’s hired away from here ends up somewhere with more power and responsibilities. More than they ever would have here. It is what it is.

You criticized the structure, "no clear second in command.” "Silly” was another descriptive.

Whatever. No big thing.

I meant to imply the structure just is what it is. The two assistant GM’s have the title but not really the responsibilities.

Dom being third in command is kinda silly, in my opinion, if you are thinking about it from someone like Raiche, Cunningham and the new Berry’s perspective. He’s the chief of security, he’s never going to be making or helping with draft picks, the cap or on field player evaluations. But he has a higher title than the people that are doing all that stuff.

In the end, if it works, it works. You just sacrifice some comp picks but it’s not a bad trade off.

I'm going glass overflowing with fullness and saying Becton rejuvenates his career here and is the heir apparent to Lane Johnson. He's finally joined a winning organization with a winning culture. He has the best OL coach in the game and can learn from the best RT in the game. He can fine tune his body, get healthy and become what people thought he could back during the draft. Changes the Eagles entire dynamic going forward.

It would be quite a massive thing if it works out.   I'll take a more cautious approach though.   It would be nice, but I thought the same thing about Chance Warmack.   That didn't work out so rosy.

Was watching the Eagles Draft 2024 day BTS video. Is this Andrew Berry (Browns GM) in our draft room?

Edit: Turns out he is the twin brother of the Brown GM, his name is Adam Berry

Didn't you see how the team collapsed once Dom was banned from the sidelines?    Who else could have had that deleterious effect on the entire team so immediately?

Dom might need to be elevated to Number 2.
