I don't agree with that guy though.

If the Eagles want to do something unconventional,   I'm more in favor of Becton as RT (occasionally) and Lane Johnson at blocking TE/FB/,   getting Lane Johnson TDs.   Also Mailata.  Short yardage and 4th Q running out the clock.  I'm good with Steen at RG.

Having seen the old rugby clips, I’ve been waiting for Mailata to run w the ball, especially if the Tush push got banned.

Why would anyone want to give Johnson or Mailata the ball to give defenders the opportunity to crash in on their knees?

I don't even need stats to know we are already one of the better if not the best short yardage teams in the NFL. You don't use gimmicks to fix something that's not even close to broken.

I'm not being critical of you but what you're saying is so obviously true that it need not be said.

Evidently, being true and obvious is not enough for some folks so it needed to be said.

Sheesh!

I'm reminded of Jeremy Irons' great line in Margin Call: "And please, speak as you might to a young child. Or a golden retriever. It wasn't brains that brought me here; I assure you that."

I didn't like the pick at the time, but I'm actually kinda getting a little excited about Hunt's potential.

I'm sorry, quick question...this year, is there any reason if we are going to run the tush push NOT to have Barkley do it?  I mean if we faked out of it and threw the ball down the field, yeah....keep Hurts back there.  But why not have Saquan behind center and have him go head first into the pile?

Quick answer: Hurts has probably taken several thousand snaps under center while Barkley has probably taken, well, none.

So what’s the starting 11 on D gonna look like?

2024 for Hurts might be the most important single season for any one player in Eagles franchise history. Not hyperbole either. You factor in that:

Nah. Even if we bomb this year, Hurts is the starting QB in 2025. Nothing changes for him. Does that suck for Sirianni? Sure, but nothing that cripples the franchise.

In recent Eagles history, there was more pressure on the 2017 team. Before the season started, there was "Fire Doug Pederson" talk + Wentz had an uneven rookie year. We just look at that year differently now given the Super Bowl.

A lot of rotation, but:

DT -- Carter, Davis

DE -- Sweat, Huff

LB -- White, Dean

CB -- Slay, Mitchell

NCB -- DeJean

S -- CJGJ, Blankenship

Will Shipley might have the biggest uphill look test battle in recent memory. Dude looks like the local transient who's trying to bum cigarettes at train tracks. If he's good he'll truly be defying the odds.

Ray Davis was my guy right there. Went the very next pick to Buffalo which I think is a great fit. Quite a few backs went right after him actually. Very curious to see who looks good and who doesn't.

Wonder if there is a competition between Hurts and Barkley for the rushing yardage and score in the upcoming season.  You don't want to risk Hurts on running too much.  But he is a competitor and trusts his legs to make plays.  Couple of seasons before, Hurts rushed often and was the leading rush of the team.  He did less last season maybe by the coaches.  He may stay at that level unless the new OC wants something different.

He likely will be, but if they bomb this year to use your words(because I didn't even say bomb necessarily) then Hurts probably is the starting QB in 2025 but I can guarantee the contingency plan will be in motion and Howie will be positioning himself ready to pounce on his replacement. And I forget how the contract is structured, but if Hurts has a legit terrible year in 2024, like a bottom 10 QB year, and they can get out from his contract without destroying the cap, I think they'd highly consider it.

He’ll still rush some but far less than in years past, I think. Just enough to take advantage of teams selling out to stop Barkley. He’s had Swift and Sanders but Barkley is far better than either of them. I also expect a lot of swing passes to Barkley as staples of the offense. Teams that put a linebacker on him will regret it.

They should do more fakes out of it, give to RB instead, still sometimes use Hurts to keep them guessing.

We'll see how it goes without Kelce though.

Quick question... does the presence of Barkley maybe mean that they could get just as good of results from NOT running the push and just run a conventional short yardage offense... with wrinkles and fakes available to maybe get big plays in case the defense overcommits to a short yardage run?

Maybe a little I-formation with Barkley deep... and some play action to be run off of it?  The question becomes, who is the fullback in the I formation?   Back in the day teams did use DTs or even OL as the FB from time to time.   This team even did it a couple times with Nick Cole as the FB... though maybe only in PS.  Would they do that with a guy like Trevor Keegan or Moro Ojomo?    Or, could one of the TEs rotate in, like the Eagles did back in the day with the likes of Stephen Spach?  I believe the Cowboys used one of their TEs in more of an H-back role when Moore was there.

It'll probably make for a more expensive Dak, so I approve.

He should give Ben Johnson half of that money.

Wild.  Dak just got that much more expensive for the Cowboys.

Interesting find...

Cowboys vs Browns week 1 in Cleveland one of the games revealed. We'll all get to watch that week, as the Eagles will be freed up playing on Friday.
