July 20, 20223 yr Greetings from Lake Huntington NY. My view for the next couple days. My first air bnb. Owner very responsive, the place is nicely done and immaculate and they left a salt lamp as a thank you. This place actually cheaper than my Hiltons I’m used to staying in. Going to Dave show soon. Will post this nice restaurant I found for dinner tomorrow night.

I have always gone way west to western New York, specifically the Buffalo area, since I have family there, and my family actually owns a cottage on Lake Erie on the Canadian side. But when the pandemic hit, and I could't go into Canada, I started exploring Wine Country (between Buffalo and Jamestown) and the Finger Lakes, to find a replacement for Canada. There are some nice spots along the Great Lakes on the American side, and there's some good swimming areas on the Finger Lakes, too. That little lake that you're at looks tempting!
July 22, 20223 yr We did the museum yesterday. A trip back thru the 60’s. Not only about the festival and music, they covered a lot of the history of that decade. Sat down by the lake and had dinner at Heinings Local I had almond crusted trout which was brought in fresh and daughter got the filet. It was really really good. Saw some deer. Leaving today. Met a few new folks coming in for Phish show this weekend.

July 25, 20223 yr paco and I have been to Croatia and it’s our favorite destination we’ve ever traveled to - happy to answer questions about it

I wanted to see all the main beaches, Plitvice lakes, and the best towns/cities. Think that is reasonable in about 9 days with a 1-2 year old? May be a stretch...

Croatia isn’t huge and so you should be able to plan the driving around or during naps and meals. We did it in Ireland with a 1 year old and went from Dublin up to Ballymore and down to Connemara in 9 days with no issues.

Further to the right, you'd basically be looking directly across to the airport, so their are a lot of planes taking off and landing throughout the day, but don't let me stop your imagination from running wild...
August 24, 20223 yr I was in Yellowstone N.P. last week to visit my brother, who is a park ranger there. What a place! I was able to do both major loops in two days, giving me time to visit with him. I went swimming in Yellowstone Lake, even though my brother said that the water doesn't get up past 55 in the height of summer. Sedge Bay was a good place, and the water was warm enough that it was pleasant. It must be shallow enough to warm up more; I would put it at 75 or so. It's not really advertized, but you are allowed to swim in any accessible body of water in a national park. At least, that is the case in Yellowstone and Rocky Mountain. Hot springs and geysers are obviously inaccessible. Most mountain lakes and streams never get warm enough to swim in, though.
August 25, 20223 yr I'm in Halifax, Nova Scotia, right now. It's a nice little city. Downtown is comparable in size to Downtown/Center City Wilmington, which is where I live. Downtown Halifax is maybe as big as Center City and the Riverfront in Wilmington combined. Anyway, there's some nice historic architecture from the 1700s, but mainly Victorian stuff. The nightlife is good, especially for a Wednesday. If you're ever in town, Argyle Street is the place to go at night.
August 28, 20223 yr Canada actually requires facemasks in airports still. But when I was flying there, I noticed that outside of places of authority, like their TSA and boarding the plane, at least 25% of the people still don't wear the mask even though it's mandatory. It's only enforced at typical checkpoints.
August 28, 20223 yr Starting the run up for a visit to Tuscany in the 1st half of October. A group of old friends, four couples. We start in Florence for a few nights and then head out to a countryside villa. Wine and food will no doubt be 90% of the visit outside of Florence. Advice/suggestions most definitely welcome.

Tuscany is amazing. I'd recommend a stay or at least dinner at Lupaia in Montepulciano...absolutely gorgeous resort. Tuscany is one of the few regions of Italy where it is nice to rent a car. Lots of tiny little towns worth checking out and easy driving once you are out of Florence...the main road is the Chiantigiana and that hits most of the stops; Pienza and Montefollonico are some of the best. I'd plan out a winery itinerary in advance for a combination of the wine you want to try and the overall scenery/ambiance so it's set in advance and you don't waste time while you are out there. The real multi-winery days are best for either a DD or a car service.

Plenty of cooks in this group. Any particular spots in Pienza that you would recommend hitting?
