What's next for the Democratic party?

Don't you think it would serve the Dems well electorally if their leaders would speak out against that a-hole? Might not move the needle very far but then again the margins are slim.

There's the calculus of "speaking out against him" vs "giving him a platform" though. Guys like that take the spotlight however they can get it. As long as they don't gargle his balls publicly and give him a cabinet position I'll count it as progress.

Hrs going to get a massive platform from the Repubs in any case. I’d rather see the Dems give it to him and push back on him.

Trumptards: democrats were confederates! They’re racists.

Everyone else: yeah we should take down all confederate flags and statues.

Trumptards: don’t try to erase my heritage!

They won't for the same reasons Republicans didn't speak out against Bannon, Jones, and the clowns at networks like OAN.

They didn't want to alienate any potential voting blocs.

To date the Dems have done a better job of keeping the crazies on the margins, while they drive the bus on the right. But directionally it's not a great time for Dems either.

Yeah, I know whey they won't but they really should. The elections will be won as they always are which is by the side that gets the most out of the middle.

Not really. Trump has won based on populism, boogyman creation, and in general acting as if the general population are ignorant idiots. That's a lot closer to Piker's playbook than any milquetoast moderate the Dems have trotted out there recently.

Piker is a cûnt.

But I don't recall a lot of right wingers rushing to denounce guys like Alex Jones and Steve Bannon. The latter of whom actually parlayed his media presence into a real position of power.

The double standard is real.

Plenty of people like me have called out Alex Jones and Steve Bannon. What in the world are you blabbering about?

Remember when Bernie Sanders was a commie kook Congressman from Vt.? Now he's the best thing since sliced bread for you people.

Do you not see the flaw in your post? You post on CVON which is full of ignorant idiots and then infer that the general population is not composed of ignorant idiots.

Nothing contradictory with those things. You don’t have to be a milquetoast candidate to pull from the middle especially given the opposition. Piker is way out in deep left field not playing an aggressive shortstop.

There's not. But the common thread isn't "moderate" in recent presidential election winners. It's populist. Clinton Biden and Kamala were relatively moderate politically compared to Trump and even Obama since I know you wanna both sides it. "Appealing to moderates" as a silver bullet to win a presidential election is an antiquated notion unfortunately.

Putting a moderate in as the candidate isn’t the same thing as winning enough of the middle to win the election. Put a populist in but make sure the message doesn’t alienate the middle as the middle will continue to decide the elections. Both Clinton and especially Harris did not do well enough in that segment to be able to win. Any candidate in ‘28 that is pro Piker or pro Piker’s message is going to lose. Note: Piker is just an example. He isn’t singularly super important.

Yeah I'm just using Piker as an example because he's in the news and the correlation is easy. Guy can get Fed for all I care.

But think about what he's getting in "trouble" (aka getting clicks) over right now. He called for anyone who doesn't support El-Sayed to be "punished". That's exactly what Trump, Bannon, Miller, etc have not only said repeatedly, but have actually done on multiple levels. They've torpedoed candidates. They've threatened judges (one judge in Providence literally lost his homeowners insurance because the threats have gotten so bad the company didn't want the risk). They've withheld finding for schools. They've sued private companies. They've withheld funds including Fing disaster relief for entire states that didn't vote for Trump. Hell he's essentially accused his own ex vice president of treason for not overturning an election FFS. All for policies and candidates that are anything but moderate. And he's won 2/3 of the previous elections.

Unfortunately you're giving swing voters WAY more credit than they've shown they deserve over the past few decades.

Yeah agreed but almost all of that stuff came in the 2nd term. Too many of those idiot voters didn’t believe they would actually execute on any of that stuff and thought it was just a lot of talk. I see no reason for any candidate on the left to accept that kind of crap from their own side which is really all I’m saying. Just don’t feed MAGA with another talking point. It just isn’t necessary.

Walk on eggshells and perpetuate a double standard because 40% of Americans are mentally retarded. Kewl

From a CNN article - https://edition.cnn.com/2026/08/10/politics/trump-iran-economy-strait-of-hormuz-analysis

Trump’s thwarting of convention has always been a political strength, and he’s less than two years past the greatest political comeback in US history. But the dynamics of November’s election may not favor him. He’s always been more effective politically as an outsider, as in 2016 and 2024. He is the political establishment now, and previously when he’s been forced to defend his own record, as in the 2018 and 2020 elections, he has foundered.

The president is also in denial about how voters are feeling. "They are not angry at me, but they’re angry at Republicans,” Trump told Punchbowl News last week.

But in recent weeks, Democrats may have given him an opening. Primary wins by progressive and democratic socialists are fueling Trump’s claims that he is resisting a tide of left-wing extremism. In a parallel to the GOP’s tea party insurgency earlier in the century, Democrats may risk winnable seats by nominating candidates who alienate more moderate, suburban voters who tend to decide elections.

Progressives, however, believe that the jumbled political circumstances create the conditions for a breakthrough among voters who aren’t just down on Trump but who also disdain the moderate Democratic establishment — especially after the failed campaigns of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris allowed Trump to regain the White House.

This is the internal battle the Dems will be struggling with and getting it right is crucial in '26 and then again in '28 in order to strike a fatal blow to MAGA

Dr Philly Pitchbot: Donald Trump raped E Jean Carroll, protected Jeffrey Epstein, flouted judicial law, tanked the economy, and lost the war with Iran, so why does it feel like the Democrats are too extreme and radical?
