Sports are not important.

Cancel the season and stay gone as long as it takes.

For every league.

Why? I haven’t heard of any professional athletes dying from Covid. Most of them don’t even know they have it.

It’s his decision and I respect that. Personally, I just think it’s an overreaction. I’ve raised 2 healthy boys and if I had a newborn now I would still go to work. You have to weigh the risks and to me, the risk of a baby dying from Covid are very slim.

More babies will die in car accidents but we still leave the house.

if he worked a 9-5 office job or was an essential worker, maybe he would go back to work.  His chosen career path afforded him the opportunity to step away.  Being a pro athlete is not the same deal.  We know that.  That’s why they get paid what they get paid.  It’s all about values.  You have dak saying he needs to feed his family and $40 million A year can do that.  And Goodwin walking away from pennies in comparison because he values his family and life more than money.  We also don’t know his financial situation - I would guess he can afford to not be working whereas not many of us can say that.  We while we wanna pretend to be big men and providers for our clan and work through this virus like the testosterone driven beasts we are, we do it out of necessity not choice.

Fair enough. I believe he had a very generous contract in SF so money is not an issue for him.

That sounds right.

He is also high risk due to the sickle cell trait.  Did you not read one page 1 of the thread.

If you go through losing a child you would understand why you don't take any risk no matter how small that is. I speak from experience.

I hold no ill will against any player opting out. It's a very personal choice that shouldn't be second guessed.

Sorry to hear that. Can’t imagine.

Go read about what his family has been through and his desire to protect his child. Then tell me who’s heartless. You and anyone who thinks like you are a disgrace to Philly phans, to say nothing of human beings.

Wow! I mean what the F! I know it was only a later round pick but we still gave up a pick to bring him in.

Well it wasn’t necessarily a pick, just the option to move up. Mostly it was a negligible move.

If a player chooses to opt out does his contract still count against the cap? I mean what if the Eagles were going to cut him?

What a ****. Cut his a** and save the money. He can go race Tyreek and blow his hammy.

Eagles need to trade anyone they can because I don't think there will be a season.

Salaries till you next year

He won't be the last either.  Be prepared for nearly every team to be down multiple players...if we even get to have a season.

I'm gonna opt out as a fan this year. Between the politics and the pandering I don"t see much enjoyment coming.

This will be an asterisk year no matter what.

Already done with MLB due to the kneeling and pandering, gave a FU to the Flyers for the Kate Smith statue debacle....NFL is next for me .

For the record...It was always going to take a paradigm shifting event to ever make me give up the NFL and watching the Eagles....yet here we are. Playing a "Black National Anthem" before a NFL game is a no-go for me. Despicable decision.

I refuse to support any of the BLM, LGBQFUCU trash, or Leftist BS that is being infused into everything today and any organization/corporation pushing it. Hence why I have little to no interest in the Eagles right now and why I always viewed M Jenkins as a freaking racist clown.

Glad I got to see a Phillies World Series and Eagles Super Bowl win. That was magical.

You don't think? I mean i think the NFL will try to force it but if enough players opt out then it will be very difficult for them to put any kind of decent product on show.

I think it starts, but I see little chance it finishes.

  • It's his call about his family.  That's what he should do.
  • There was no guarantee that he made this team and, after a year away, even less next year.
  • Its highly unlikely we have a season anyway.

With the number of COVID positive cases in MLB increasing (forcing the Marlins and Phillies to both be shut down temporarily), I think the NFL will be watching MLB very closely to see if this blows up on them or can be somewhat mitigated.  If the former, I don't think there will be a full season, no matter how much they want to avoid losing all that revenue.

Yep. I won’t judge him for the decision he made but my son was born in February and I’ve been going to work every day. Also had lost one pregnancy to miscarriage last year. I do understand that football is different being a contact sport.

I’ll refrain from giving my opinion on the COVID panic going on right now, as the CVON section would be a more suitable place for that.
