Some quick thoughts on "Liberation Day," also known as "Liquidation Day." Obviously, these tariffs are way beyond anything the market expected. I think very little of Trump and the administration

If it makes you feel any better all of my money goes to private school tuition. I'm too "rich" the get financial aid so it's all straight cash homie. There's no Caribbean vacation in my future until they are both out of college.

If it makes you feel any better, some people here take vacations in their house - which also happens to be their car.

If it makes you feel any better I'm pretty much draining my savings to do this remodel

In all seriousness, I’m happy with our modest middle class life. Our house and both cars are paid off, and we get to take some nice vacations here and there. It helps that the 6 kids we have between the two of us, are adults and financially independent from us. It just a little unnerving being so close to retirement, and watching sheet burn down.

Oddly enough, I wanted to be an Architect when I was growing up.

is it kind of weird that kz has only posted sparsely in the illegal immigration thread and avoided this thread like the english avoid a dentist?

Did you do the new addition to the Guggenheim?

No, I ended up being a mechanical draftsman for few years before getting into the electrical field. I was asked to wire the Guggenheim addition, but had to decline.

I've almost always lived well below my means.

Aside from replacing our upstairs windows, a new HVAC system is high on the list. It’s about 20 years old and I would like to preemptively replace it this year, before it breaks down when it’s freezing next winter.

I almost replied to him in that thread to see what's going on but I already dug up an old post from him in this one so he knows he has a post waiting for him to reply to.

Living below your means doesn't make you a failure. I live below my means significantly.

Having such limited means is what makes you a failure.

Mine was showing it's age, it works but i could see its age in my energy use. . I also had a diverter not working which made keeping consistent temps throughout the house difficult. New stuff going in next week, and I'm tapping out for at least a few years.

I can't complain too much, I'm entering my 5th year in the home and I didn't do a thing to it for the first couple years. I didn't even paint lol, the previous owners had pretty good taste. The past two years we have done a lot, new everything, and I'm more tired of all the people coming to the house all the F'ing time than I am of paying for it.

I meant to have more means, but I also have more means than I was meant to, so im not complaining.
