Yes.  But, we are measuring individual value.   Value of the back end > value of run clogging NT.  Value of DT that can stop the run and rush the passer > value of run clogging NT.

In other words, of the list of players mentioned (not CJGJ) Davis is at the end of that list.  Carter, Mitchell, DeJean, even Ghost and Rodgers are higher value players than Davis.  That is not to say that what he provides isn't valuable, it is.  But it is lower value than the others mentioned, and that's why he wasn't worth the pick they used on him over players like McDuffie and Hamilton.  It is what it is now, but again, replacing what he provides is easier to find than what the others provide.   So, they can't overvalue him again moving forward and overpay for a one dimensional part time player.   When drafted, I had the hope that he could be both a run stuffer and a guy to collapse the pocket.  He's proven that he's only one part of that, not both.

I hear you, but respectfully disagree.  The whole is the sum of its parts ... ideally greater than that sum. I believe it is a team sport not an individual one.

You and I have disagreed in the past and we will disagree in the future.  It is all good.

Obviously.  But, we are discussing how much Davis is worth in a second contract to this team... so his specific contributions would be relevant.  He's valuable.  No one is denying that.  The questions that remain are: how valuable is he, and what do you pay for someone who provides what he provides?

I believe they overpaid for him in the draft.  They misread what his production would be in the NFL.  He's far from a bust, but unworthy of the selection made for him, including a trade up.  Had he been a 3rd round pick, I don't think anyone would be worried about him for the future and his contract demands.  His 5th year option would put him at about $11.4M in 2026.  Is he worth that?  Should they look to extend him before then?  Should they let him test the free agency waters and keep an eye on his value to look to bring him back?

It was more the media guy that roasted Nix; Bates said 5-6 years where 5 was accurate.  Bates was speaking in a neutral/complimentary manner.

I think he’s fine as a back up. His contracts up at the end of the year, so unless he comes dirt cheap I tend to think they move on and just give Shipley more of a role. also I tend to think they take another running back probably in the middle round.

I think the more fascinating question is will the Eagles change their philosophy on running back when Saquon Barkley‘s contract is up. Hypothetically if they’re picking somewhere between 26 and 32, would they consider taking a running back seeing how much it helped their offense with Saquon? Now you’re not likely getting Saquon Barkley type talent, but they believe that the running back can be really good, would they consider it at that point. we didn’t think they consider paying a running back that type of money and they did it. I severely doubt they do it with a top 20 pick but back end of the first round is intriguing if they believe the back has a chance to hit big in the offense. I still doubt it but i think they’d potentially ne more opened to it

This is an absolutely LOADED RB class too.

I have to correct myself. I said that both Barkley's TDs were on the outside zone. Not true. The first was a simple off-tackle play with a monster block by Becton.Screenshot_15-11-2024_14347_www_nfl_com.thumb.jpeg.99e5e0701b113874aaa9ea3d20b659dd.jpeg

At the snap Goedert crosses right to left. Split zone action. Lane turns the DE out. Becton attacks the DT with Jurgens.

And Saquon is gone. The only guy with a shot at him is the CB who has his back to him watching DeVonta.

It looks like the safety might have an angle but Saquon is just too fast.

I would imagine they take a kid in the 3rd to 5th round that they like. I think tight end is the position where they go 2-3rd round. I don’t think they use a first round pick on one. And we’ve gone into this conversation in the past about first round tight ends, so I’m not gonna go into that. But I could see them if one falls in the second round that they take him. First round feels like pass rusher or OT. Frankly since they’re in a championship window and they’re gonna be picking at the end of the first round, I wouldn’t be shocked if they trade down and acquire more assets in 2025 and future drafts

IMO, this is much more beautiful a choreography of a play than a long pass.  The entire orchestra is involved on this, and has to win their assignment for it to go to the house.

Johnson has to turn his man out wide enough to make the lane big enough for Barkley.

Becton and Jurgens have to get the double team and be able to move up to the LB level.

The back side OL has to seal the backside so that Barkley doesn't have to divert his path.

The receivers have to deceive their defenders to keep their attention or else they can blow up the run for no gain.

And Barkley has to see the seam, hit it hard and fast and then read the field the rest of the way to get inside the pylon.

So magical!

Yep, I thought for sure that Dean would miss that tackle but man, that's as impressive of a tackle I've seen in a LONG time. Nothing violent about it, just a great tackle in open space.

I was just reading the other day that there are other ways to treat appendicitis besides an appendectomy, which explains why rates for it have plummeted compared to a few decades ago. Obviously depends on the urgency/severity but I wonder if his is too far gone already.

It was cool to watch Lane make that block to spring him and looks like he instantly knows that might be going for a TD. He puts his hand up right away like "hes gone"

Also, looking at your pictures 2nd to last one, looks like #20? has the angle on Saquon. On the last one you see that guy lunging from behind as Barkley is about to cross the goal line. Angle erasing speed.

This play reminds me of this video which I just posted a day or 2 ago and I think its worth re-posting. I saw someone take issue today with someone else saying Barkley isnt the best player on the team, or even the offense. Well, "The most dominant football player on earth" Lane Johnson certainly has a case, doesnt he?

To the detriment of the team, especially in his reprise.  The second year he was all about sacks and he ignored any type of run lane responsibility entirely, and teams took major advantage of that time and time again.   He was straight garbage.

He does indeed. I watched that video when you first posted it. Give the rusher his chest and the arms lift up. If you look at Becton in that video he has his inside foot planted square and flat like Lane. That’s got to be Stoutland. Between his coaching and Lane’s mentoring, we’re only beginning to see the best of Becton.

I do love great OL play.

Didn’t our chances of making the playoffs go up to greater than 99% with that win yesterday?

Rewatching it i still think we are giving the calcaterra fumble recovery enough emphasis.

was key to the win

Fran says he thought scheme was a bigger issue in the game than Hurts with the offense. He watched every play and said Hurts missed a few, but a bunch of plays they tried to get big plays down field and they just didn't give Hurts elsewhere to go with the ball and other plays they didn't run anything elaborate to try to get guys open and there really wasn't anywhere to go with the ball on many of these plays.
