- Hell of a play by Rodgers to have good coverage on Chase and knock the ball to CJGJ. I almost had a heart attack seeing a turnover by the defense.

The Eagles defense also recovered a fumble for the first time all year.

At that point I was already convinced I was dreaming.

Really good look at Coop's near pick. Great play by the LBs and DBs.

WOO!!!  That's a big deal!  Turnovers come in bunches... this could be the beginning of a windfall of turnovers.   And maybe, just maybe, the kid will finally bring in a pick.   He's been so close.

The Eagles historically have been good at UFA signings. Baun, Saquon and Becton being good aren't that surprising. We've hit on RBs like Sproles & Mathews, LBs like Kyzir and Bradham and OG like Brandon Brooks & Evan Mathis.

But Howie hitting on back to back picks has been a complete and utter game-changer for this team.

The biggest plus out of the last 3 games aside from just getting W's is that the young guys seem to be finally coming into their own. Doesn't mean they're out of the woods yet. Far from it. But it's better for them than it looked a month ago. Dean, Nolan, Huff, some others playing much better. And DeJean and Mitchell are legit studs. DeJean tackles like a safety. If for whatever reason CB doesn't work out for him, dude will be an all pro safety.

- I feel like we aren't talking enough about Calcaterra filling in nicely for Goedert. This might be Goedert's last year in Philly, and there's no extra cap hit to cutting him next offseason even as a pre June 1. Feels like we are seeing our 2025 starting TE in action.

He's playing well, but at best he's TE2. He can't block, he's retired from football once already and there's yet again a wealth of talent in the college TE pool. I don't want the Eagles passing on TE talent in the draft because Calcaterra has looked OK.

Oh, I'd definitely draft someone in the first 3 rounds. But his play makes Goedert being cut a real option.

At what point do you start talking with Baun about an extension? Have we seen enough? I'd lock him up for 2025 at least.

Maddox getting relegated has been the spark the defense has needed. It obviously helps that DeJean has hit the ground running and has been their most sure-fire defensive player as of late. I'm glad they made that change early enough where it hasn't become too late. The pass rush also seems to be getting their footing too. It's understandable that they were going to start off slow, but they've played some gems between NO, CLE, NYG, and now this game.

On offense, the biggest thing has been Jalen eliminating the turnovers. It obviously isn't going to happen every game but he's been on a nice stretch here the past three weeks. More snaps from under center and more throws to the middle of the field have been encouraging as well. He's clearly capable of throwing in the middle of the field, so I don't know what the deal is in some of these games where they refuse to do it.

I have my issues with Hurts, but they can still go deep with him playing in a game-manager role and with the type of game he played yesterday. He's also moving much better this year on scrambles compared to last year, which is obvious given the bone bruise he dealt with all year last season. He had his patented foot-in-the- ground jab-step/cut move yesterday too which was nice. There is enough talent on this offense where his number one priority should be limiting turnovers and just keeping the team in the game.

I'd say having almost 12 yards per attempt isn't being a game manager. He was throwing the ball down the field, but doing it well.

It feels like we are finally letting the run set up the pass via play action. Last year we were obsessed with passing early and running late for some reason.

Thoughts on yet another game where the stress level was low in the 4th quarter.

Offense

- OK, he had one bad throw. The throw to Gainwell was a potentially huge mistake. Other than that, that was the best Jalen has looked since Super Bowl 52. He threw over the middle, he threw deep, he stayed in the pocket. Hell, the read option even worked for a TD. Averaging almost 12 yards per attempt is just bananas. It finally feels like he is gaining comfort in the system and Kellen is learning how to play to his strengths -- the use of play action was nice to see. If we keep getting this Jalen Hurts, we can beat anyone.

- Not for nothing, but Jalen has beaten Mahomes, Josh Allen and Joe Burrow in the last 12 months. 3 of the consensus 4 best QBs in the game (Lamar). And he gets a shot at Lamar in a few weeks. Top 10 Jalen is back it seems.

- I feel like we aren't talking enough about Calcaterra filling in nicely for Goedert. This might be Goedert's last year in Philly, and there's no extra cap hit to cutting him next offseason even as a pre June 1. Feels like we are seeing our 2025 starting TE in action.

- Fred Johnson, take a bow. I thought Hendrickson could wreck the game, but Fred was hyped to play his former team. He gets Allen-Hines this week and then likely Parsons, so hopefully he can carry this forward. But he was awesome yesterday.

- Tyler Steen as well -- the guy is a starter in this league. I hope Stout never retires.

- Saquon, AJ and DeVonta are really good, but we knew that already.

Defense

- The bulldogs had another solid game -- Nolan with another sack, Carter getting pressure, Davis stopping the run, and Dean all over the place making plays. The young dogs are starting to grow up.

- After getting carved up with quick passes on the first drive, it seems we adjusted coverage and were tighter. Burrow made some insane throws, and Gesicki had great catches, on the FG drive. After that, we shut the Bengals down for the most part.

- Cooper DeJean has changed this defense by being physical, good in coverage, and simply not being Avonte Maddox. That 4th down stop was elite for a young player.

- Q just keeps looking solid. He's our best CB already.

- Hell of a play by Rodgers to have good coverage on Chase and knock the ball to CJGJ. I almost had a heart attack seeing a turnover by the defense.

Johnson and Steen played fantastic yesterday. Stoutland retiring will be a dark day in Eagles lore. And 100% agreed, Q and DeJawn have transformed this defense. For the first time in a long time, our strength is actually in the secondary and not on the line.

Today. I know the bar was low for LBers here, but he's a solid B to B+ player. Can't let him walk.

That was one of the most encouraging things I've seen this season. For his game, he NEEDS to be a threat to take off and run. Doesn't necessarily have to heavily do it, but the threat needs to be there. Last year, it wasn't.

The Browns' roster is ready to win now. They should keep Garrett and try to win in 2025 with a new QB. Trading Garrett would also be tough from a cap perspective and they have Watson to deal with.

The Raiders should trade him, but they have no one else they can put on any promotional material. If they trade Crosby, forget 2025 and possibly 2026.

Winson just set a franchise record for passing yards yesterday.  So they'll do the most Browns thing ever and give him a mega contract.

:howie:

He hit on Smith / Dickerson in 2021.  But their impact was less apparent as the team was being rebuilt.  They were several changes going on at the time.

The impact from Mitchell and DeJean is much clearer.

I posted after the game a few guys I think need to start being considered for extensions. Baun is one of them.

Fred Johnson and Isaiah Rodgers are 2 guys who should be locked up before the season ends. Their price tags could skyrocket on the open market. I don't think anyone is going to be breaking the bank for Fred Johnson but you never know. A 2-year extension would make me feel better about his situation. Rodgers is tricky. Is he CB2 or do they see DeJean as CB2?

There's a lot to be excited about with the defense. Consistency, growth and continued improvement is needed but man, the talent is starting to shine through.

Nolan Smith, Jalen Carter, Cooper DeJean, Quinyon Mitchell, Moro Ojomo and Nakobe Dean are all showing they are the future of this defense. Then you have guys in Kelee Ringo, Isaiah Rodgers, Trott Jr. Jalyx Hunt, Thomas Booker and Sydney Brown.

Get them some pass rushers in here and it's looking like a very dangerous unit.

This truly isn't a shot at Hurts, because he was great. It's just something I looked into:

He had a three game stretch (also middle to end of October) last season that was similar to this one...and then he fell apart. Throughout his career, October is far and away his best month while November - January he's barely above .500 as a QB

Now this could all mean absolutely nothing and just be a total coincidence, but I am curious to see if that trend continues. Hopefully it won't.
