There is no time with these QB contracts. You need to know if he is the guy as soon as possible before their salary blows up or the next class of QBs comes out

Then why were they always given so much time in the past?  Was it because the salary cap changed, and the rookie QB is no longer paid an absolutely ridiculous amount of the cap space?

That's 3 seasons though. Don't have to decide in rookie season.

Devonta is fine, missed practice for personal reasons.

The head coach should have figure that out on his own, but thankfully he has players to help him out. Focusing on the run game makes sense when:

  • You've struggled with slow starts to games for multiple seasons
  • You haven't scored points in the 1st quarter since last year
  • You paid a star RB big money
  • Your QB is a talented runner
  • Your QB is struggling in the passing game
  • Your have injuries to your top WRs and TE

Over time, QB contracts got more expensive. Teams were scared to move on from a mid-tier QB because they might fail so they'd try to build around them. Only after they had enough losing and GM/coach got fired would they start over. At that point, the team sucks and has a high enough pick to draft a top QB, but they're putting them on a bad team.

Big Ben was drafted onto a talented roster that lacked a QB and had success early. Same with Russell Wilson. Rodgers sat for several seasons under a Hall of Famer. Jordan Love also sat under Rodgers.

Now with the high contracts, teams are expecting more out of QBs early. If you look at QBs that won SBs in the late 80s through the 90s, a lot of them hadn't even won a playoff game until their 3rd or 4th year. It used to take them a long time to develop a team into a championship team.

I think it's going to crash soon though. Teams are regretting giving big contracts to guys like Dak, Daniel Jones.  Even Howie has to be thinking he paid Wentz then had to trade him, and paid Hurts and he's struggled (we'll see how the rest of his season goes). I wouldn't be surprised if some teams start to trend away from giving big contracts to guys who haven't proven it and let them walk, and draft a rookie. Players that have proven themselves would still earn the big contracts.

I'm sure this was discussed last night, but I wouldn't have called that second Garrett Wilson TD a catch.  Didn't they disallow a TD catch last Sunday because a player got one foot down twice, but not the other one (Pickens, I think)?  Wilson's shin came down in bounds (on the same leg) but his knee touched down out of bounds.

I'd be inclined to allow one foot and knee coming down, but I don't agree with shin.  That looked like a non-catch to me in real time, and seeing the replay I still don't think it should be ruled a catch.  The Rules Committee should change that.

A shin is a body part which stands on its own. In that sense it’s like when a receiver lands with his butt in bounds and his feet subsequently land out. It’s a catch. So basically Wilson didn’t even need to have his first foot in at all. Body part (other than foot, in which case you need both) in, it’s a catch.

Yes. It makes no sense that Dallas is in the NFCE.

This is kinda like the annual complaint about the Lions always hosting on Thanksgiving. It’s a tradition. The Cowboys have been aligned with the Giants, Eagles, and Redskins since they were born. It’s too ingrained now. Long standing rivalries have been well established. Don’t mess with it. It’s tradition.

The Cardinals were at one time and got realigned.

There used to be 17 rounds of the draft. There used to be less games per year. There used to not be a salary cap. Rules change every year. The points system changed over time as well. The NFL started out without having the forward pass, and that was a controversy to allow a forward pass.

Things change and evolve. And having a team in Texas makes zero sense to be in the East division.

When they realigned, they really should have taken into consideration Eagles fans that might be living in Arizona.

the bills i don’t trust their defense. I don’t think it’s as good as in year’s past. I do think Coleman developing and cooper getting more involved will make their offense more potent though. Then again don’t trust Buffalo to beat upper echelon afc teams when they need too in the playoffs. Frankly what makes the chief so good is that their defense is good enough to keep them in games (and sometimes even when it for them) until their offense can come around and score some points or do a game winning drive

Lions playing only 3 outdoor games this year is insane. I think they are going to get HFA if they continue to play at this level.

The Bills biggest loss was to the Ravens.  Henry had a monster game against them.

Assuming the Eagles have turned a corner, they have the easier remaining schedule.  The Lions still have games left against the Texans, Bills and Niners.  They also face the Packers and Bears twice.  The Eagles face the Ravens, Steelers and Rams. If the Lions lose one more time and the Eagles win out, the Lions will have HFA.  The Eagles have to have better record.

The thing with the lions is that they only have 3 outdoor games: This week against the Packers and who knows if Jordan Love is going to be close to 100% or playing. And then later on the season, they go to Chicago and at San Francisco back to back. The bills game is at home and the Texans game is in Houston but it’s in a dome. Which I think benefits Jared Goff because he’s not as good outside of the door. Their schedule broke well in terms of not having to play outdoors besides 3 games.

Let me say this I think the Eagles can beat the Lions. But they can’t go the first quarter without scoring. What tends to happen with the Lions is, they get on you fast. So if they get up 14 points and you are in a hole and you’re gonna have to throw your way back into the game and get stops. If the Eagles can consistently run the ball with Saquon and be close in that game so that they’re not one dimensional I think you could beat the Lions defense. Don’t think the lions are great defensively. Can score on them. Gonna beat them have to score in the 30s, not get into a big hole and can’t turn it over.

I keep getting told that's because he was missing Smith and Brown for weeks
