I think it was an automatic check when the gunner is uncovered.   But it was stupid regardless, it shouldn't be an option in that situation at that spot on the field.

But you’re at midfield so you’re telling me you’re willing to take a risk on a fake punt/go for it at your own 15 yard line but at midfield needing one yard you’re not willing to go for it? Where is the logic in that? So you’re willing to be more of a risk taker deeper in your own territory than at midfield

My point was this if you’re willing to be a risk taker at your own 15 yard line then you should probably be a risk taker at the 50 yard line needing 1 yard.

My point is that I don't think it was the coaches that made that call specifically in that situation.  It was something they worked on, but had to be an on field adjustment if they got the look they had worked on.  The fact that they left it as an option at that spot on the field is where they coaches were wrong, IMO.

 

The Steelers (specifically Tomlin) aren't known for being uber aggressive on 4th downs.   The punt didn't surprise me.   The fake punt did, but I am convinced it was an on field check, not a 'decision' specifically in that situation.

Maybe. If you are ok with your players being aggressive to make that type of decision at the 15 then probably should yourself be aggressive at midfield on a 4th and 1.

Chiefs giving up 14 first half points to the broncos and 24 to a Bucs team down Evans, godwin and McMillan is an issue. I’m guessing it gets corrected  

Steelers, Jags and Saints should all continue to win IMO
