Major major strides. And yes there is the competition caveat but the are at least doing what they are supposed to against bad teams.

Having said that Burrows is great and Lawrence is at least a NFL QB (not a good one).

But man we have stretch of some brutal opposing QB play Watson, Jones and Rush.

Excited to see how these guys go the next 3 weeks.

Interesting move for Mailata I presume. Down to just 2 TE's again on the roster. EJ Jenkins is out of elevations. Stoll has 2 left I believe if he were to re-sign on the PS.

Makes sense.  Guessing that since Stoll made it through being cut once that the gamble is worth it.  Guessing he replaces Tarron Jackson from the PS.

Think they are counting on those Stoll elevations and then reassessing after 2 games.

Plus if its not CJ WhosYourMomma getting cut to make room on the PS - they could actually use him in that 3rd TE role with elevations as well. Book on the guy is solid blocker so can fill in that Stoll role

Play OL6 over TE3 anyway

Glad your son is okay.  Worse concussions I have had were in car accidents.  (Three times including getting knocked out when hit as a pedestrian as a kid.) Those were different than getting my bell rung in sports but I can remember being fuzzy after a game because of the repetitive hits.  I think it’s the repetition that contributes to CTE. It was a little different.

But as an insurance claim adjuster, manager and executive, I studied TBIs a bit.  The recovery time from a hit like your kid took is probably 3-6 months.  (The studies suggest most recovery will max out around six months.) Follow the rehab plan, those have really improved through the years.  The memory games really help.  Can be frustrating at first and a little boring later on but it’s not unlike the physical rehab from orthopedic injuries, it’s like building back strength. The first week is the worst. Hope he makes a full recovery.  Watch out for quackery, as that abounds in TBI medicine.

I can attest to TBI recovery.

Late in 2022, during an MRI looking for something else, it was discovered that I had a central neurocytoma. Basically, a noncancerous mass that was slowly growing in the middle of my brain. I had surgery in late May of last year to have it removed. They expected a reasonably quick recovery, but I would have problems talking and walking. I had no issues talking or walking, but the recovery has been so much longer than expected.

There is so much that I do not remember now. I do not remember being in the hospital for two weeks; I don't remember the summer or the fall. I am thankful that my wife took a lot of pictures, even though I see them and wonder when the hell I was actually there. I don't remember the second time I was in the hospital because they were concerned about seizures. They took my license away for six months because of it. I was an avid reader but couldn't read anymore because I couldn't remember what I read. I would go back to where I left off and would have to reread everything. It was horrible, and I hated it so much. My personality completely changed. I would barely talk. I would just be there.

It took more than a year of therapy, memory games, changing my habits, and learning to write everything down to help me get to where I am today. I still have to go to therapy every week, but I keep getting better, and I can see it in my everyday routines. They even said it may take up to 2 years or more before I get back to my normal self.

The brain is a wonderful and resilient organ. As long as you continue to work at it, have a supporting cast, read, and attempt memory tests and games, it will come back. Slowly but surely it will.

It's almost like he got no coaching in college on how to play WR and has just been getting by on his natural talent.

I agree. I had a similar comment a while back.

Note who the receivers double teamed blocking on that play. DeJean is making a real impact in the run game.

I think he’s the best tackler in the secondary. He’ll wrap up and also take shots when appropriate. Nice punt returner too. Feels very secure and had a big return in this game.

I got clocked on a kickoff more than 50 years ago. That was on a Saturday. I remembered nothing from the moment I was hit until Sunday night. Still don’t.

I would imagine there are numerous viable TE3’s on practice squads across the league should it become necessary.  PE.com tells me we have 2 of our own.

Not too bad heading into a short week. The offensive starters were out there for 54 snaps and Smith played 49 and Goedert 43. I imagine their injuries are less severe and they should be fine for Thursday.

Wouldn't be surprised if they kept it easy with Slay this week, since Rodgers has played quite well in his absence.

Stoll is probably going to be dressed on Thursday night anyway. Easy path to clearing waivers, signing with the practice squad, and then being elevated for the game.

This was a move that was easy to see coming.

One of my favorite plays of the season thus far is the Barkley catch and run against DAL; 3rd down and 6 at the 13-yard line.  Hurts flares the ball out to him and he catches it flat-footed at the 22-yard line.  Needs to get to the 7-yard line just to get the first down.  No convoy in front of him; no lead blockers at all, really.  Just tacklers to beat -- and just takes the yardage needed and more, all the way to the 1-yard line.

I wasn't a proponent of the free agent signing, but this is why you pay the extra money to a player who is a difference maker.

Solid point. But with a better QB we would be throwing it 40+ times and scoring 40 points.

I'm not really buying that. There are a lot of HOF QBs and not a lot of offenses that averaged 40 points per game --- especially throwing 40 passes per game. If you can put up 40 points on a weekly basis and need to throw 40 passes to do it, what does that say about your defense, not to mention your running game. Dan Marino was one of the all-time great passers. He always had a top pass blocking O-line and very good receivers. He also has no super bowl rings. Joe Montana is another all-time great passer and he had great receivers, great RBs, great O-lines and great defenses ... oh ... and great coaching. He only hit 40 or more passing attempts 38 times out of 164 regular season starts and that was in a WCO system where short passes were an extension of the running game philosophically. In his best season he threw 31 TDs and the 49ers averaged just under 29 points per game.

The only issue with going light at TE is that Goedert isn’t exactly Cal Ripken.  As long as Stoutland feels comfortable getting through the better part of a game with nothing but a light blocking TE in Calcaterra helping out, then I’m not worried.

I was against the contract but happily eating crow. He's been an insane difference maker

They will have to pick in the top 3 for that.  But, we should be ready for the Giants or Dallas to get him

Becton and Lane both pull to the left, Jurgens blocks down and Calcaterra releases. You can see the Cowboys crashing down. No blocking to the right side.

Except Saquon has the ball.

The DE and OLB are caught flatfooted. And yes, that's Calcaterra blocking the safety.

Two plays later:

Same action. Becton and Lane pull. Jurgens blocks down. You can see the DE is not crashing this time nor is the OLB.Screenshot_12-11-2024_151651_www_nfl_com.thumb.jpeg.bda8bd6ec9f4dfca6b65f39dad3e380d.jpeg

They won't get fooled again. Except, Hurts keeps.

How pretty is that?

So they reversed the directions of the QB and the RB from a typical read option run.

Your basic key as an LB is to follow the guard. Becton and Lane pulled right to left so the DE and LB followed. On the first play I put up that broke the key because the RB and the ball went away from the guard. On the second, because the OL and QB/ RB action was the same, the DE and LB, remembering the earlier play, stayed home and the QB could have walked in. Neither was a read option although they looked like they were. These were scripted plays.
