Who knows, but my guess is that was purely a Howie signing. I thought baby Trot might leap frog Him mid way through the season and we'd roll with him and Dean there. I'm still in disbelief at how well Baun has played. And it seems to have made Dean so much better too. Both of them might be the best LB duo we've had since Emmons and Barber.

Let’s talk about Baun and Dean.  Hurtt and the DTs deserve a ton of credit for the play of the off ball LBs. Hear me out.  A lot of bad vibes on Davis but he requires double teams most of the time and Carter is Carter.  Additionally solid play from the DT/DEs and backups.  Josh Sweat, BG and of late, Nolan Smith are occupying the OTs.  Real risk to block them with a TE.  That keeps Baun and Dean clean most of the time.  That has enabled them to range and fill there gap assignments.  Pretty much the same for DeJean, who plays nickel like a S with CB skills or a CB with S skills.

Now, consider that next season the Eagles may lose Baun, Sweat and BG.  Something Howie needs to consider as he explores extensions.

We all know it’s true, so instead of pretending nothing bad can happen, GET A LEGIT BACKUP.

This isn’t hard.

We will draft in the 25-32 range. Use a pick in the first two rounds, get a stud, and we are set for the next 4-5 years.

Barkley is not a Fungible good

Game really wasn't close, the defense was dominate

It’s a forgone conclusion that Davis won’t ever live up to his draft position…now that I’ve accepted it i find it interesting to watch how he’s used.  He’s been at least adequate, and it seems like he’s told to just go out there and take up space on the field and not get moved out of his gap assignment.

And yet... due to missed opportunities, the Washingteam could have taken the lead in the middle of the 4th quarter, had they not been stupid and/or pig-headed.  ;)

Which is fine, as long as when contract time comes, they recognize that that is what he is and don't overpay for him again.

Technically Parker is the Passing Coordinator.  The CB coach is Anderson and I think he has a lot to do with the CB success.  Did pretty well with Witherspoon last year.  Can’t undersell Kasper with the Ss. He was immediately targeted this offseason.

I won’t argue some on the defense aren’t playing at his level, but to say he’s not even the best O player is absurd bro.  lol, he’s almost single handedly winning games for us sometimes.

I know it looks like that sometimes, but there’s something to be said for all the yards he gets before contact too.

I don’t see a reason to name a ‘best’ player on offense.  It’s just a great talent ensemble

I’m curious how they approach it TBH.  If I’m the birds i let him go receive offers and decide if the comp pick can net you a comparable player or not.

The OL, especially given there’s 2 new pieces has been playing great.  Some issues in pass pro (a lot of this is due to Hurts struggling with that aspect of game calling).  Barkley has been consistently great through injuries and shuffles there though.  The OL might be the best group of players though.

Why on earth would baun want to leave? Just pay him. Bg and sweat need to go for cap reasons anyway

According to Over the Cap, we have 10mm left in '24 to roll over with 32mm in '25.  So 42mm total.....I would extend Baun and Becton right now to team friendly deals.  3 years, 24mm, 14 mm guaranteed for Baun and no clue what on Becton but around the same.  Don't know if it would get it done (especially for Becton) but it'd be silly to let either of them go.  Specially because as great as Lane is, by signing Becton now, if/when Lane leaves you kick Becton outside.

I’m not sure you kick Becton outside though TBH, I’m by no means an OL expert, and he’s had some ‘lowlights’ but he’s thriving inside his booth right now.  That might be long term where you keep him.

Im just not sure becton can play tackle…

Fred might be the better investment.

i’d give Baun his money this week

I think you might try Fred Johnson at RT before Becton.

But given how Steen played and his low cost, do we really need him? His balance just seems bad to me. Ends up on the ground far too much

Ok..forget the oline conversation....PAY BAUN NOW! 🙂  My god, I don't remember the last time we had a solid LB crew....Baun is making plays every week everywhere.

It seems we have low key, budding stars throughout our secondary and lb corps. Is this real life?

I also heard Carter played every defensive snap, pretty impressive IMO. Seems some of the conditioning issues that appeared to plague us last year were corrected.

@just relax

what was the scheme change that opened up the run game in the second half?

they mentioned we trapped a few times. Seems like we went away from the zone runs and started pulling guys alot?

As long as Stoutland is here, and we've got some options in terms of players, I'm confident the OL will work itself out.

Why would either take team friendly deals?  This is Baun's one and only chance.  Either the Eagles get closer to a Barkley deal, or he tests the FA market, as he should.

Same with Becton.  Good on the Eagles for tapping into his talent, but talent is expensive.

Pay Baun. The Eagles have no trouble at all finding OL and could fill the gap left by Becton. It is way too difficult for them to even find a LB with a pulse.

Everyone wants Baun to stay, but you can’t pay everyone.  We are paying both WRs and the QB elite money.  Pro bowl guys scattered along the OL on second contracts.  RB getting good money.

No huge edge contract, which helps.  But they still can’t pay everyone.

It’s all in the run game. Be dominant rushing the ball and it makes the game easier to control. The birds controlled the game.

I hope the more traditional style of football makes a comeback, rb becomes more important, receivers become less diva, qb is clutch but doesn’t have to throw for 5k yds and 50 TDs. Fullback becomes a real thing again.

Big uglies against big uglies, forget the spread and rpo every play.
