Did Nick kick the XP to go up 26-10 just to give Jake a chance to straighten himself out?

Should have gone for two there, no brainer.

I think that was part of it.

He's an EDGE, not an OLB.  I don't want to see him dropping into coverage.

Tell the Eagles and don’t watch the games because he has dropped in coverage a few times already this year.  He switched his number to 19 when they changed his position to OLB this year.  Sweat has the athleticism to drop and hasn’t been bad when he does.  But there really isn’t an "Edge” position.  That’s draftnik language for a too small DE, who hasn’t been asked to drop in coverage or an OLB that hasn’t dropped in coverage in college.  (For example, Abdul Carter, who BTW is the same size as Hunt, is listed by PSU as a DE but draft sites will call him an Edge.) Nolan Smith, another OLB has also dropped in coverage this year.  Note they also list Hunt as an OLB and he dropped in coverage some in the PS.  Only Graham and Huff are DEs, although both have dropped in coverage, Graham in the past and they tried it with Huff, it was ugly.  Both OLBs and DEs are expected to control the edge for the Eagles.

Calcaterra's fumble recovery was as big a play as there was in the game.  Maybe not bigger than other plays, but certainly not less important.  If that's a turnover, that's a potential game changing moment.  And he might have saved the game in that moment!   Goedert really needs to work on his ball security.  He's a dangerous threat, but also a liability when he's turning it over.

I could see drafting a TE but considering they have Brown, Smith and Barkley they don't really need a top TE, Goedert is good and Calcaterra has become a viable backup. But, Goedert has had this expectation of being a top TE in the league and has never reached that. He is what he is, which is fine. But I think we expect too much out of him. He's not going to be Travis Kelce.

Hurts did point to that recovery as being a key play in the game.  Goedert has had 2 fumbles this season.  He needs to work on it but I don't know how much will change at  this point in his career.

I think Buckhalter was much bigger and a more violent runner than Gainwell.  He was about 20 pounds heavier and a few inches taller.  Buckhalter was more like Demarco Murray as a runner.

yes.

gainwell is an upgraded smallwood, and neither could hold buckhalter's jock.

He let half the starters walk from the 2022 defense that was top 3 dvoa

Cap pressure, which he will face somewhat in 2025 and 2026 with Graham likely retiring and the 2025 hits from Kelce, Cox and likely Bradberry.  I expect he will extend Mann, Lovato and hope he extends Sweat and Baun.  Milton, if they can.  I expect Howie has had some contact with their agents already.

Please elaborate.

Cmon now, we all know the front offices view on LB. He just let TJ Edwards go last year, didn't even offer a contract per reports.

I think he was strongly considering going for 2 when we got it to 18-10 with how things were going with Elliott. I think he made the right decision to kick the extra point to make it two possessions. But when they panned to him i was like he’s for sure thinking about going for two

I'm moderately convinced he actually got a slight concussion on the failed trick play -- in the post game press conference, he said something along the lines of "I beat the test," and then the sunglasses on ESPN.

I thought he was just trying to troll SVP, didn't even dawn on me that it could be photosensitivity from that sack. You might be right on that.

I think he's overrated by some.  He's basically a jag.  He's better than Boston Scott, but not by much.  He'd be really good as a #3 RB, he's barely passable as a #2.  He generally gets what is blocked for him.  He almost never makes guys miss.   If Barkley misses time, this offense can't sustain itself with him as the lead runner.  It would need a major overhaul for those games.

If Barkley misses time this year, they would elevate Davis but Gainwell would be the starter and Shipley is likely the #2.  If Shipley can learn to pass pro, he’s Gainwell’s replacement and was drafted to be that.

If you want to know why the run game was iffy in the 1st half, the Jurgens/Becton duo had a lot of issues. More so Becton than Jurgens, but they would both double a player and not block the 2nd player who would make a clean-up tackle. Rough back to back games IMO for both guys.

Agreed and I'd put them both (Gainwell and Smallwood) a far cry behind a guy that was truly a 'great' #2RB in Correll Buckhalter.   That's the level I hope for from a #2 RB - Buckhalter or higher.

Buckhalter would have been a #1 RB if not for the injuries.

Ah, the classic 2 R version of buried.  Does that me he railroaded him?

Actually, that is the Everybody Loves Raymond spelling.

He seemed to get better the more he kicked. He isn't a kid anymore, so those saying he needs to kickoff may be right.

Great comp.  That’s what an elite CB1 should be.  Not getting INTs unless you’re getting tested, not getting tested unless you’re giving something up.

He’ll get that first one sooner or later, but he’s probably not going to have the chance to stack them.

Agreed 100%

For Davis?

I think so yes. Id have to guess its in the 10-12m range?

Dont know how you can possibly say Jurgens played poorly last night

This bumped him up to 4yds before contact. That’s insane. He’s getting almost 6yds every time

Could've signed him last year when Goedert was out. Our backup TEs were doing nothing. A bunch of fans here said it was pointless he wasn't the same player. I said he doesn't need to be a starter, just a backup to contribute. But now we have Calculator out there making plays so we're good.

He was on IR and on the Cardinals last year when Goedert was out.

I guess it depends on what Howie has in mind for adding another pass rusher but if push comes to shove, not sure someone who plays less than 40% of the snaps is worth that much money when his utility in rushing the passer is so limited.

It would be so much easier for some folks if the Eagles would just go back to being bottom-feeders so they don't have to get excited about winning and losses aren't a let down, but exactly what was expected. People are funny.

I have said this before. If you listen to Eagles fans, you'd have to assume that their ideal head coach is Marion Campbell -- You win between five and seven games per year so you don't have any heartbreaking late-season (or playoff) losses and the draft is always exciting because you're picking in the top ten.

The most frustrating thing to me about the offense, outside of the mistakes in the first half, was the inside zone run/take a deep shot scheme. Hurts would hold the ball, then the pocket would collapse. They need to work the TEs and RBs into the passing game so that teams can't focus on shutting down the run and outside WRs. And become less predictable.

I expect more out of Moore, it seemed the Commies knew what was coming and stuffed everything between the tackles, and neither Brown or Smith got much separation on their vertical routes, kudos to the Commie CBs not biting on double moves.

Once they started running outside zone/off tackle the game was over.

And the underneath routes seem to be there every game, but Moore keeps trying to match up the WRs one on one outside. Brown on slants is deadly, because he's great at RAC - scheme him open underneath and let him truck DBs. Smith should have more routes out of the slot, not just as a target, but a decoy to clear out the middle. That short pass to Barkley went 40 yards b/c there was only a safety in space, get him one on one with a DB and good luck.

Where the creativity? Don't wait until the second half to get clever (and I don't mean slow developing trick plays, I mean scheme guys open for throws that take less than 3 seconds).

Scheme value is high. He is keeping the LBs clean and getting carter alot of 1-1 matchups. fangio generally hates to use run blitzes iirc

Eagles will have 32M in cap space next year. Project 10M for rookies + 5M for reserves for about 17M. Will save money post June1 cuts for Bradberry and likely restructure/trade of Goedert.

We will want to be in the comp pick game, so no free agents but resignings. Only extension candidates are Jurgens, Baun and Williams.

Can easily fit Zach Baun in if we let Milton Williams walk.

I think Davis is grossly underrated, because he's the anchor of the base defense who allows Carter to do his thiing.

He consistently took on double teams and held his ground, that allows the LBs to flow to the ball and the safeties to play deep.

If he's playing 40% of snaps, it means he's doing his job b/c they're getting opposing offenses into 2nd and 3rd and long on a regular basis, which is when he comes off the field.
