Huff was just a non factor!

Huff and Smith.  At least one of them needs to get consistent pressure.  There was one play that Smith was close on a DL stunt but there wasn't enough time for him to get there.  That's all I saw from him.

Sweat got some pressure which was good.  Graham is going to get his but he can't go for more than a rather small set of snaps in any normal game.

I mean I’m not going to write Smith off but at this point I’m not expecting much from him.

I feel a lot better about our defense today but once GB adjusted, started having more run plays to the outside & finding success, I kept thinking that a RB like CMC will absolutely crush us.

Both of Hurts’ interceptions are correctable. He wasn’t confused or duped by the defense. He wasn’t zero blitzed into collapsing upon himself like a dying star. He just made bad mistakes.

The first one sucked because the game just started and we were all excited but I believe it was 3rd down and long deep in our side of the field....honestly a punt might have been the same thing.  The second one, in any way, shape, form was completely inexcusable.  YOU DO NOT THROW ACROSS YOUR BODY AND TAKE POINTS OFF THE BOARD IN A CLOSE GAME.  And let's not forget, AJ Brown had to become a DB on one throw and I forget who it was later but Hurts sideline throw where he looked like he was throwing it to a Packer.  Hurst easily could have had 4 Int's this game.  He did have some big moments and really good plays but this sounds like and looked like the same crap from last year.

I can kind of understand the first one it was a good play by the DB. But it was a poor throw in a poor spot.

When it’s financially feasible & there’s a clear upgrade I think you have that conversation.

A bit knee jerky after the first game, in a new system, without his HOF center.

Edit: After a 10hr flight on a sloppy field :) I'm giving him 3 more games. If he doesn't get it together by then with all of these weapons... well he's not what we need in a franchise QB.

Not really. He's making the same dumb mistakes some of us pointed out five years ago.

It is and it isn’t. New scheme yes. First game with no preseason action yes. But this was the same rubbish we saw all of last year and that’s my concern. Is this what Jalen is?

Based off watching videos it looks like his knee shifts and pops. I kind of also think if it were that the packers would’ve already said it.

Last night I didn't notice it buckle before Carter put his chest on it and buckled it again.

It's looking worse and worse on these replays.

Last night during the game I thought it looked like a probably minor MCL sprain.

Now,  it's looking likely to be more serious.

I don't know who Jalen Catter Hurts is,  but both of those pics show Hurts talking to Love.

This is all I'm getting at. The bulk of his career has been the same, but he's turning into Wentz 2.0

Difference is the amount of talent on offense and at coordinator is immensely better than it was in 2019/2020...and again I'm not advocating for it. Yet.

I just really don't want to waste a prime Brown, Smith, Barkley, etc so Hurts can continue to make the SAME mistakes he's always made.

Yes of course not.  He gets at least thru say 10 games this year before I would be ready to put him on the serious watch list and no matter what he's getting well into the meat of next year.

It must have happened on another play initially.

I am so happy after watching Quinyon Mitchell tonight

Yup great pick

After last night, if the Eagles have any lead in the 4th, the game plan should be hand the Fing ball off to Saquon and watch him run.

2023 Hurts not being good is part of the reason we have a new system.  That’s the way it goes with QBs that aren’t good enough…teams start chasing their tails with new coaches and systems trying to fix them.

I think Hurts and Wentz have some fundamental differences. But there is a strong parallel in their career trajectories.

Wentz didn’t care about mistakes.  He’s the guy that just keeps doubling down at the black jack table until he’s homeless.  Kept pushing and playing reckless.  He lost the team.  He also had awful weapons surrounding him.

Hurts…he’s going to adjust and stop throwing the football eventually…retreat to the comfort zone.  He’ll run, hand off, and throw safe caretaker passes underneath.  The turnovers will get cleaned up, but at the cost of cutting off our weapons at the knees.  He won’t lose the team like Wentz did.  But rather than a full implosion, those honest with themselves and the team will know that one of the best sets of weapons this franchise has ever had (and maybe the best in the nfl this year) are operating at half potential because the QB can’t use them.

That will give Hurts more time than Wentz.  Hurts will last until these weapons fade and can’t carry the day anymore.  Smith has a longer runway, but once Barkley and Brown decline, that’s when things will start to get ugly for Hurts.  So he’s got another 2 years of people thinking he can be fixed.

Hurts is mentally tougher than Wentz. Wentz wasn't bleeding 7minutes of clock + getting a FG on that final drive.

I hope the coaches stop asking Hurts to be Peyton Manning and call some damn straight-ahead runs.

The issue is that it’s hard to find a qb and it still takes time to turn them into a good one when you do find one.  Statistically, Hurts is the highest chance of getting it together and being the qb that doesn’t waste prime Barkley, Brown, Smith.  I don’t think he’ll actually do that.  But looking for a new QB now, finding the right one, and then coaching them up is a certainty to waste those guys primes.

Hurts getting his ish together is their only chance.  That’s why his leash lasts until those weapons decline.  Once they fade, they won’t hesitate to bring in a new qb.  Until then, it makes no sense.

Hurts made many outstanding throws in the game.  The thing is he's not thriving off of these extended play last minute throws.  Those throws were part of Wentz' success so he had to keep trying them.  Hurts is really making mistakes on completely unneccesary throws.  I still hold out hope that the new coaches help him grow through that

Defense giving up 7ypc is no bueno - the run fits were sloppy, guys stayed blocked and it quickly became 1v1s at 2nd and 3rd level because of it. Got to clean that up, Bijon isn’t a slouch.

I thought that was supposed to be Bryce Huff... aka, #0.   Did he do anything at all?  Seems his stat line is a big 0.

People will say a win is a win but that had all types of ugly

A win is a win, always.  But they have plenty to work on before next Monday night.   A win is always better than a loss, and getting a win against a team that will likely be in the mix for the playoffs and so having the tiebreaker advantage just multiplies that benefit.   But there's nothing in that game to make anyone complacent.
