2023 Hurts not being good is part of the reason we have a new system.  That’s the way it goes with QBs that aren’t good enough…teams start chasing their tails with new coaches and systems trying to fix them.

Oh please.... that system last year was garbage.... pop warner route tree. And WR screen spamming.

Game is on NFLN right now. First time seeing much of anything. If anything is taken away from this game, it's that I hope all those Brazilian fans know not to be boob now.

Green Bay fans probably are saying if not for some dumb throws by Hurts or some timely third down Eagles mistakes this is a blowout.

Or, that they squandered their early opportunities in the first quarter and instead of 14-0, it was only 6-0... and they let the Eagles hang around and get the ship righted.

It is and it isn’t. New scheme yes. First game with no preseason action yes. But this was the same rubbish we saw all of last year and that’s my concern. Is this what Jalen is?

Could be... we don't know yet... a bit premature to go one way or the other this early given the changes. Love looked just as bad. Difference is the Eagles were dropping the passes Love was throwing to them. Sloppy all around IMO.

Not really. He's making the same dumb mistakes some of us pointed out five years ago.

Game 1. Couldn't care less about 5 years ago. Escaped with the W. He either fixes it or he doesn't and you can pat yourself on your back and feel vindicated. Me .. I'll hope for the best this early in the season.

Reminding myself of this and getting excited.

You think two coaches who have been coaching offense their entire career and have been in the nfl for years…one who was Hurts HC in 2022 and one who was his qb coach in 2022…just said…hey…I really like pop warner offenses and want to install one here in Philly?

Im not saying they did a good job coaching last year…they didn’t.  But do you think that’s the offense those two wanted to run?  Think there might be a reason they did it?

After last night, if the Eagles have any lead in the 4th, the game plan should be hand the Fing ball off to Saquon and watch him run.

yes. i approve this message. the push without Kelce is not automatic certainly not in bad field conditions.

Jalen Hurts is a class act coming up to check on Love after the game.

Doubt it.

How many possessions would the starters play in the preseason games?  Is 1 or 2 possessions going to really make a difference?

What about 1 or 2 possessions in Game 1, and then 4 or 5 in Game 2?  And yes, I believe it could, ESPECIALLY with the new rules and limited opportunities to do things in practice anyway.   It would be different if they were doing 2 a days up in Lehigh like they did back in the day and they were hitting regularly in practice.   They don't.   So, having some 'live' periods in the PS would definitely offer some benefit.   But, they are so scared of injury, they are willing to put up with extreme rust to start the year.

Siri is trash and he proved it the first time he had the reigns for the offense. I'm not even going to bother talking about Johnson. The offensive scheme looked way better yesterday and you know it even with Jalen having brain farts. I'll give him 3 more games before I start berating him.

Maybe the coordination between Hurts and Jurgens would have been in better shape.

That's it, IMO.

And that might have eliminated 1 turnover, and might have provided a TD, rather than a FG at the end.   And changing those two plays makes a dramatic difference in the game, doesn't it?  That's at least a 7 point swing.

The point is that he has not fixed it in these five years. It's not about patting myself on the back. It's about watching a team never reach it's potential because the QB still doesn't understand basic things about the position.

His interceptions and turnovers (in general, not talking about Jurgens snapping early) are largely inexcusable. I keep seeing "Eh no big deal it's rust!" Rust has nothing to do with throwing into triple coverage. Rust has nothing to do with throwing across your body five yards short into the end zone when the game is coming to a close. Rust has nothing to do with forcing a pass to Dotson that was almost taken the other way.

The guy has talent everywhere. Three great receivers. A great OL. A great running back.

"He's fine. Kelce didn't play! If he was here, Jalen wouldn't have thrown into triple coverage!"

Christ this fanbase has its head in the sand.

Weren't we told that this is the year that BG has a limited role? He played more snaps than Bryce Huff and Nolan Smith. Not ideal.

Is this just his speed now? He is so much slower. Hurts that is.

His rushing ability was always little overrated IMO.

He was always more of a power runner than a speed guy.  Going back to 2022, he did run over defenders more than he tried to outrun them.  Now he's caught in between and really doesn't look quite as fast as before.  It's a slight difference, but I think its real.  Maybe its indecisiveness or uncertainty about lowering the shoulder or not.   On the run where he ran over two guys for the first down reminded me much more of 2022 than the other runs.

My read on this watching live is that BG is a better power-rusher than both of them, and on that turf speed rushes is less valuable.

See you in two months when he's still making the same mistakes.

And if Hurts continues to look like he did last night, the offensive scheme will start looking like 2023 again.

the moment Jalen tried to become smarter about taking hits was the moment he got worse as a QB.

He isnt a good enough runner to make people miss, and if hes not going to run over and through tacklers to get 1st downs, his legs just arent really a threat. Nobody minds a QB sliding after just a 2 yard run.

And when hes not a running threat, his passing ability isnt good enough to lead an offense. He needs to be the dual threat.

We cant really worry about him taking hits. If we want MVP level Jalen then we need to throw caution to the wind and root for him to get back to being a physical runner.

Not even possible. No way i ln hell Moore runs last years playbook

It really seems like a speed rush bending around the outside shoulder of the OT was impossible on this turf last night.  Probably speaks to the lack of diversity of what both Smith and Huff can do, but still…their best asset was taken away.

BG’s best option at this point in his career is to get under an OTs pads and drive him back…which is something that still works on this surface.
