Both of Hurts’ interceptions are correctable. He wasn’t confused or duped by the defense. He wasn’t zero blitzed into collapsing upon himself like a dying star. He just made bad mistakes.

That's more troubling to me than if he had been duped.  Yes, correctable, but why is he making those throws?  His first throw to AJ on the opening drive also appeared to be, at least into a crowd of 3 defenders, if not 4.

Rodgers doesn't have a position even when he's healthy. He's an outside CB. That job is Mitchells now. Cooper DeJean is who we need to hope takes over the slot.

I’m sure they’ll all get snaps in this defense.  There are 4- 5- 6 DB formations in this defense when they’ll all be out there at times.

Yes Hurts just made poor mistakes.  I think the offense moved well most of the night and holding a few unproductive plays against him is too harsh. They rarely had to punt,  But the critical mistakes need to go

"Unproductive" is an interesting way to describe bad turnovers.  I guess the good news is that turnovers do limit the number of punts.

Weren't we told that this is the year that BG has a limited role? He played more snaps than Bryce Huff and Nolan Smith. Not ideal.

No Williams or Ringo counts. Must've gotten cut off at the bottom.

The new system had zero to do with the INTs or the fumbled snap at the goal line.

That wasn’t a fumbled snap.  It was a premature snap by the Center … not expected by Hurts.  Hit him in the chest.

Awesome!

There were some issues there last night - hence the reason you don’t take points off the board to shave 3 seconds off the clock in the end - and risk a bad snap when kicking the FG again.

The black helmets are dumb. From far away, you can't tell they are black. Up close they just look like someone forgot to finish them. If they insist on wearing it, add some green accents to the wings or a green facemask.

My bonus prediction was pretty close.

I was off on my game prediction, but did manage to nail my bonus prediction. Unfortunately.

Frankly i thought it was more of a knee issue when you watch the replay his knee pops and shifts. The ankle i thought maybe it rolled and he got a potential sprain but the knee watching the video was more concerning.

The last tush push at the goal line was a fumbled snap.  Hit him right in the hands.

Still not good in the middle of the field.

He's going to Laveon Bell himself.

Complete nonsense. There were several blown coverages by Mitchell and at least one by Slay. Don't make it sound better than it was. I'll wait on the All-22 for a better look, but even on regular game film it's clear this is BS.

to me it looked like the ball was snapped before jalen's hands were under center all the way

If Baun and Becton continue to play at high levels, they would be two prime candidates for extensions

Woof!

Could be.  I was hoping they would just give the ball to Saquon again.  Hurts designed runs and the tush push should be shelved.

Now you're just hating.

Stick with the decision making.  Plenty of low-hanging fruit there.

Yeah you'd think we only scored 24pts and lost instead of 34pts and won with the way some guys are talking. The thrill of victory and the agony of reading about it the next day.

He's a great player, get over it

Considering neither team got any pressure on the QB last night I'm gonna chalk the lack of a pass rush to the field. Bryce Huff is good. He may not be Reddick, but the guy can rush the passer. He has one of the fastest get off's in the NFL. He relies on it to get pressure. I think the field impacted his get off. Nolan Smith I'm less confident in. Sweat I think will be pretty good. They may need one more edge though. Will be interesting to look back at all the DEs that were available and how they look this season compared to one another.

Giants fans got so excited when Saquan slipped for a 5 yard loss on the first play. That might turn out to be the high point of their season.

Things I think they need to sort out:

1. Getting Hurts back to being a pocket qb.  And how much of this confidence crash may come from playing under center?

2. Barkley usage.  I know the popular opinion is to ride your horse and constantly get the ball in his hands, but think of Barkley as our 2002-2004 Westbrook.  This is your offensive weapon x.  Don’t waste his legs on too high a volume of generic plays that any rb averages 3.8-4.3 yards on.   Keep the utilization creative, diversified, and sustainable.

3. Edge / Nolan Smith usage.  For a guy who seemed to be in the dog house playing in preseason games, he sure seemed to get a lot of snaps tonight.  That’s a good thing..maybe the coaches like him more than we thought.  Now, he didn’t look good with those snaps, but that’s another story and I’ll blame turf for now.  I also got a sense that Huff isn’t going to eat as many snaps as Reddick, so that increases the importance of Smith.

4. Ringo / Dejeane usage.  It’s too early to pass any judgement on CJGJ, but the bottom line is that the Eagles had 2 full time major liabilities on the field in the secondary tonight…while Ringo and Dejeane were riding the pine.  They need to find out where these two are most comfortable and get them going.  They are too talented with too little talent in front of them to not get playing time soon.

5.  I’m not sure Hurts will have the vision to see him, but they really need someone to throw to at WR3.  The offense barely feigns attention to anyone outside their big 4 of Brown/Smith/Goedert/Barkley.  That’s going to make them really easy to lock down in zone if they know WR3 or TE2 might as well not be on the field.  Dotson is too fresh, so that’s why he wasn’t in the picture tonight.  But they need to get him up to speed.

Re: Barkley.

Last night, that was a high leverage game, so you do what you need to do to win that game.  It was Week 1, with a 10 day lay off before Game 2.   Perfect spot to ride him.  AND, with it being Game 1, you put some tape out there for teams to focus on.  Weeks 2, 3 and 4 are against the NFC South... you can be more judicious in those games.  But, in high leverage games with tiebreaker and playoff implications, you do what you have to do.   I don't want to see him getting 24 carries a game, until the playoffs come around, on a regular basis.  But, for the situation of that game, it was ideal usage.  We should see a difference moving forward over the rest of the month.   And hopefully the Eagles can give him more rest in the final month of the season as they face teams that they should be able to handle without over reliance on Barkley... 4 of last 5 games... Panthers, Steelers, **Commanders** and Giants.  Only Cowboys in the 2nd to last game is one that should cause major concern.  **Washington is a Wild card though, who knows what they really are going to be this year, AND they always seem to play the Eagles tough in down years.

They went to an empty backfield at least two times in a row (it might have been 3 times) on that final scoring drive, in a situation where they needed to be in a 4 minute offense.   And in so doing, they removed any concern about defending the run from the Packers' D.  That was some bad coordinating by Moore.  Make the Packers respect the threat to run, ESPECIALLY with Barkley having burned them so much already.  Use PA if you are going to pass.  Don't make yourself one dimensional in that situation.  Make the defense work.

To be fair, we were at least in 11 personnel on those plays and even shifted from single back to an empty set on one of them, so in terms of play calling, Hafley still had to consider the threat of the run. Not to mention that Hurts has run the draw out of empty sets quite often. My issue there is that we have no one to chip or pass protect if they zero blitz into it.

Here's the last thing I'll say about Hurts (well, until this post sets off an argument) ideally until he gives us another bolus of information against Atlanta next week.

I think he's a streaky passer who isn't very good at it and who struggles to settle into a comfort zone.  I think he's dependent on all-world OL's, all-world weapons, and easy reads to step into throws and make the aerial attack work.  He doesn't have the arm talent to really improvise outside the pocket or the talent between the ears to consistently sit in the pocket and play at a high level.  And his other assets that make him dangerous (mobility, power running) are fleeting and becoming less relevant by the year.

I think he'll settle down, do just enough to silence the doubters, but will mostly have an up and down career that doesn't do justice to the talent assembled around him.  And his time here will come to a merciful end when the talent around him eventually wanes and they are forced to hit reset.

That's not a week 1 hot take; it's the type of player with the type of passing ability that Hurts has repeatedly demonstrated to be throughout his career at multiple levels with multiple coaches.  He won't always suck like last night...and some games it'll all click and he'll be great.  But 2022 is never happening again.  Just like 2017 Wentz.  Too much of a blueprint on how to knock him off his comfort zone and make him function in areas that he's just too limited.  I just don't think he has the ingredients as a passer.

Hopefully the game against Atlanta provides ammunition for the counter argument to this.
