I actually thought the pass rush wasn't bad at all.  They had Love backpedaling and throwing off his back foot, and he was uncomfortable all night.   And they didn't leave him a bunch of running lanes either.

The huge TD pass to Reed was possible because of Huff falling down (and CJGJ looking into the bleachers or something)

The inconsistent run defense was annoying.

Was it?  It was bad, but I'm not sure it was worse.

I thought it was worse too but both were very bad.

I was thinking the something similar - need to give Love some credit for getting rid of the ball anytime the defense was within a yard of him.

It wasn't just Huff though. Did anyone see Brandon Graham do anything? What about Milton Williams and Jordan Davis (after the first play of the game)? Williams was so invisible during the game that I legitimately assumed he had been injured early on and we hadn't been informed. And then I saw him again in the fourth quarter, so I honestly don't have a clue what was up with him.

For now I'll just chalk it up the bad field and no one being able to get proper footing.

Williams didn't play that many snaps for whatever reason.

Yeah I was really surprised Alexander couldn't catch him.  He still didn't look fast.  Don't know when Alexander got slow.

A man that big doesn't always 'look' fast.  But 21 MPH... that's pretty fast.  And clearly, fast enough, and more importantly, he was able to maintain it for the entire time to get to pay dirt.  Some guys can hit a high speed, but can't maintain it long enough.

Yep.  And keep in mind, there’s a difference of AJ running 21 mph against a D back who would have trouble bringing him down going half that speed vs a smaller guy who might go down as soon as he’s hit.

Most DB’s will try to get the best angle possible before trying a "shoe string” type tackle against a guy like AJ.  So him going that fast makes it that much more difficult for most DB’s.

I thought that was supposed to be Bryce Huff... aka, #0.   Did he do anything at all?  Seems his stat line is a big 0.

He got out snapped by Nolan Smith if that makes you feel better

You could tell people had their Bryce Huff takes in drafts before the game started.

Reub with 2 of his finest observations yet

10A. Reason No. 117 playing in Brazil on opening day is a bad idea: Maybe the long flight isn’t the only reason the game was sloppy, but there were eight flags in the first quarter – four on the Packers, two on the Eagles and two that offset. There’s always a little sloppiness on opening day, but eight penalties in the first quarter says a lot. Both teams were so far out of their comfort zone and it showed. In all there were 26 penalties called, including four that offset and four that were declined. I just don’t think that happens if this game is at Lambeau or the Linc.

10B. Reason No. 118 is that the field was a disaster. Somebody was slipping on just about every play and their were divots everywhere. Seemed as bad as Super Bowl LVII on that awful turf at State Farm Stadium. This game should never have been played in that stadium. Or in that country. Or in that hemisphere

RE: 117.   How many preseason snaps did the Packers' starters play?  That could also be an issue with early penalties.  Maybe they needed to be in 'real' game situations more than they were leading up to the opener.

The field conditions were also atrocious. So I’ll give them a pass for that. But you make a good point. A lot of Loves throws that were off were because he didn’t have a clean pocket to throw from.

Now you're just hating.

Stick with the decision making.  Plenty of low-hanging fruit there.

You guys are impressed just because the QB delivered an accurate ball.  In the NFL. You've moved the bar too low.

I totally get criticizing Hurts' critical mistakes but he was a good passer overall last night and to me looked like the better QB. Again you can't ignore the mistakes but I don't see  dramatic limitations

I mean I’m not going to write Smith off but at this point I’m not expecting much from him.

I'm not writing him off yet either, but very soon I might start looking for a pen.

I do think that, lately, it stands out as a surprise when Hurts has a decisive release and delivers a good ball.

Why didn't DeVonta get voted as a captain again?

Asks for too many towels during games.

The majority of his completions were "accurate balls”

The throws to Saquon and AJ on their TD’s were "elite” level throws.   You should know the difference.

Sorry, I'm using the pen right now for Davis......

We forget this, but people we really worried about Reddick at the start of the 2022 season as he didn't do anything in camp and did very little in the first couple of games.

It's so early in the season.

At least they know it’s not his acl

A bit knee jerky after the first game, in a new system, without his HOF center.

Edit: After a 10hr flight on a sloppy field 🙂 I'm giving him 3 more games. If he doesn't get it together by then with all of these weapons... well he's not what we need in a franchise QB.

What does his center being different have to do with his INTs?  The botched snap at the goal line was on Hurts, btw... not Jurgens.   The botched snap out of the shotgun in the first quarter was 100% on Jurgens.   But the QB/Center exchange cannot be an excuse.   The only reason that should matter would be the added responsibility of calling protections is too much for him to handle.   He needs to prove that it is not.

I don't think you can say he was a good overall passer.  Extrapolated over 17 games, this game adds up to NFL single season records in turnovers and interceptions with the lowest passer rating of any full time starter in the NFL.  Obviously, that won't extrapolate over 17 games...but it speaks to not being a good passer in this game.

Reddick had bad starts to 2022 and 2023.

It really seems like a speed rush bending around the outside shoulder of the OT was impossible on this turf last night.  Probably speaks to the lack of diversity of what both Smith and Huff can do, but still…their best asset was taken away.

BG’s best option at this point in his career is to get under an OTs pads and drive him back…which is something that still works on this surface.

I’m sure this will get talked about when there’s a good breakdown, but i felt like i saw BG inside a lot last night.  Davis seemed like a no show and i felt like he was taken out on passing downs.

Some random thoughts:

-I thought Lafleur not going for the TD on their last real final possession was a mistake. Kicking the FG was a coward's move. Watching I was hoping they'd kick the FG. They were down 5. If they went for the TD and didn't convert, if they hold the Eagles to a FG it's still a one possession game.

-Went back and rewatched some plays and Hurts looked faster on some plays and slow on others. It looked like he and other players were high stepping as they ran to try to put less weight on their plants to prevent slipping. We'll see if he looks faster on a real playing surface.

-Still have no idea wtf Nick Sirianni does here. I hate to look ahead, but if the offense is dominant all season, I don't want to play the yearly "Replace the coordinator" game. Can't do it every year when you have a head coach that seems to not do much of anything.

-More plays than I expected had no one open. Not sure if it was the field making it hard to get in and out of your breaks or if Hurts was just hesitant to pull the trigger. But they schemed guys open for a change. A breath of fresh air when they didn't do that last year.

-Much prefer the LB blitz than the corner blitz which we saw all too much the last couple years.

-So, is Elliott just not gonna kick off this year at all?

-I hate the new kickoffs. Every possession is two plays away from midfield. I love the feel of a long drive. The way it looks, it feels like it's watered down the game, everything about it I hate. The NFL every year makes the game worse and worse by a small bit each time. Get rid of this garbage.
