to me it looked like the ball was snapped before jalen's hands were under center all the way

I just watched it again.   I think Hurts was set, hands in position and he just fumbled it.

If Hurts has a great game next week, I’ll start to hope again.  If he looks like this next week, I’m not going to accept any "it’s only week 2 in a new system” bs.  And if he looks middling next week…well…come on, we are in year 5.  At what point are we allowed to accept what he is and isn’t?

But…either way…we can wait for next week.

Well, that’s not really the players’ faults, is it?

Pretty sure that decision comes from higher up and done with good intentions - trying to keep the team healthy, etc.

It does come from higher up.   And who said it was the player's fault that they didn't play in the PS?  The criticism is about the team, all levels.  And the pandering about 'maybe we need to play starters in PS', and then just not doing it again, and having it bite them again is frustrating.

The top two 'excuses' go hand in hand as stupid.   New offense and defense means you need to maximize reps.   Organizationally, they chose not to.   The bottom two things they had no control over.  The top one was an issue that they could have used to counter #2.

I give absolutely ZERO regard to self-inflicted stupidity.  They chose to sit starters in PS, despite knowing they had new systems to install.  That's like giving Plaxico Burress a pass for shooting himself in the leg 'on accident' in the club.  He's the one that brought the gun to the club in the first place, and apparently doesn't know how to put the safety on.  He was 100% stupid.   And so were the Eagles for their decision to sit their starters when reps were available to be had to mitigate the second factor.

By the second half, that's a moot point, b/c the starters now have as mnay snaps as they would have had in pre-season, and against real competition.

And they did look better in the second half.

Next game isn't about playing in the pre-season, it'll be about taking a few games to adjust to new schemes, new personnel.

I don't think we'll get a really good feel until the first couple games after the bye week.

That wasn’t a fumbled snap.  It was a premature snap by the Center … not expected by Hurts.  Hit him in the chest.

At the goal line, Matt.  The final 'Tush Push' attempt, on the last offensive drive of the game, was a fumbled snap by Hurts.  Barkley jumped on it so that it wasn't a turnover, but it was a fumbled snap by Hurts.  He missed the ball.

Given the investment and position he was drafted at, you would hope this wouldn’t be the case.

Spilt milk.  He isn't a pass rusher.

QB1 is mediocre at best. Both ints last night were absolutely terrible decisions

Now...ignoring QB until next week:

What is the LB situation?  Is there a problem brewing with White?  Sure seems like Baun and Dean earned the right to start next week.

Is Rodgers back as CB3 next week?  Does CB3 mean Rodgers outside and Q in the slot?  Are we really going to ask a rookie (even if he's a great one) to move all over the field instead of get comfortable in one spot?  Fangio literally said he doesn't want to ask him to do that, but might have to.

I don't want to make too much of CJGJ's (terrible) game.  I expected Blankenship to be the problem and CJGJ to lock it down.  But the bottom line is that we had 2 of 5 full time DB's look terrible last night and one of the best ones, Blankenship, isn't going to do that every week.  So it really shouldn't be THAT hard or unfounded to find ways to get Ringo and Dejeane on the field.  Ringo is too talented and this secondary is not good enough for him to somehow get caught up in a numbers game and have his career stagnate.

It's a surprisingly good situation to be in when White and Rodgers might be odd men out for the time being. No way you take Baun off the field. Same with Dean. Quinyon more than proved he's capable of playing CB2. Are they going to move him? Doubt it. Rodgers has never practiced in the slot and even though Mitchell has, he's CB2 on the outside. Just can't see them moving him. If anything, I think they try to get DeJean in the slot.

Regarding CJGJ, I didn't think he was terrible. I thought he filled in the run game pretty well. He took far too aggressive angles at times. He needs to be better that's for sure.

It was clear as day

I'm not sure on Dean. Would need someone who understood his assignments to say whether he was in wrong lane at times. Looked like it to me but I don't know

There are so many options in secondary.  I think they should leave Q outside.  Try to get DeJean up to speed in next few weeks.  Eventually Sidney Brown will be healthy as well and in mix.

I was a huge critic of Deans career so far. He showed me far more good than bad last night. The good was VERY good too. I think he's the kind of player that only gets better if he's on the field. He needs to play.

Mitchell has SWAG

People are reading way too much into the first game, played on a bad field.

RPOs were probably not a good call on this field, b/c harder to get players to over pursue when they struggle with that first step.

Receivers were sliipping and sliding.

Hurts was making an effort to throw over the middle, maybe too much of an effort.

I'm not going to panic when my QB leads my team to 34 points and 406 net yards against a good team. And if Dean makes that pick six, possible Eagles win by double digits.

The data doesn't bear that out.   Big swing and miss by you on this one.  He threw over the middle 4 or 5 times at most.  2 were picked.  That's awful.  He threw almost exclusively to his left... and had some great success there.

Ugly start but the Eagles settled in and got the job done. Good back and forth game.

There are no pictures on the scoreboard, got the win, now go back review the film, improve on the negatives AND the positives, get better. Long season ahead. Good start.

What you did there...

I see it.

Looks like Justin Fields is starting tomorrow. If he plays well does Wilson get his job back?

And the Eagles were extremely fortunate to weather the early storm of their own ineptitude.  They got out of the early part of the game only down 6, mostly due to the Packers' self inflicted wounds.  If it's 14-0 to start, the outcome of last night's game is likely very different.

Yup. Early on, Packers penalties and drops were our best plays. Fortunately their drops continued.

Yeah…it’s week 1.  Every team in the NFL is rusty.  We won’t really know anything for certain, about most teams, until probably mid October.

Agreed

We just beat a playoff team on a neutral field. Some people are just miserable. They think if things don't work out for the Eagles they can take solace with an 'I told you so' prize

Some people are desperate for it, it's almost sad given it was first game up against one of the early rival favourites for the conference.

No one would call Hurts performance good last night but the whole offense looked rusty coming out and it did improve as the game went on. I don't understand why we were calling empty back field plays when we were trying to salt the game away at the end just chew the clock and take 3-4 yards a play.

But again, we were up and down but  still beat Green Bay who the press all have as a play off team down the road, I'll take a 34 point offensive performance against a play off team all day every day.

I think we are in a borderline Wentz 2.0 situation with Hurts. The difference being at least Wentz had the excuse of not being surrounded by an all star cast on offfense. Hurts has his good moments but my biggest issues with him are the dumb, idiotic plays and overall I don’t think he makes anyone better. Who does he elevate in this offense? AJ and DeVonta would be stars on 31 other teams. Same with Saquon. They won’t do it because of the $250 million contract and the money invested in AJ and DeVonta, but this should be Saquon’s offense complemented by Hurts as a game manager/Brock Purdy role. Use Saquon as your McCaffrey.

I thought Nakobe and Baun were great last night. I was concerned about the linebackers but they put that to rest for me at least last night. Baun especially was all over the place and might be a great find.

Was also encouraged by Quinyon last night. He held his own.

A cowboy fan is being more rational about the Eagles game than Eagle fans...

1 hour ago, Sack that QB said:

-So, is Elliott just not gonna kick off this year at all?

I hope that's the case. Mann has demonstrated he can kick the ball to the endzone, so with these silly rules that's all that's needed. But I think the bigger issue is that if the opponents actually get a return going and the kicker is forced to try to make the tackle or take on a block, you'd rather it be Mann doing that duty. Elliott is too valuable to risk getting hurt. You can always find a new punter. But getting a new kicker off the street is a tough order, although you gotta give the Eagles credit for finding Dicker who did the job here when asked and has been great for the Chargers ever since.

I'd be upset if the Eagles were outgained 410 to 250 and won b/c of a Dean pick 6 and a couple more breaks.

That is, winning when you're outplayed is not a good look for a SB contender.

Eagles went toe to toe with the Packers on a bad field, and made some bad mistakes and still won the game.

So to me, that's a fine outcome for the first game. If they look like this come game 6, uh oh.
