Maybe Jurgens getting to work out his nerves under the bright lights of a PS game helps prepare him for the nerves of the bright lights in Game 1?  And it wouldn't be 1-2 drives (somewhere around 10-15 snaps)... But it would be a total of between about 7-10 (around 50-80 snaps).  That's a decent number of snaps to work through some of the kinks and the jitters with much lower consequences.). Back in the day, Game 1 starters would play a series or two, sometimes a full quarter if they were an especially young group.  Game 2 would be about a quarter and a half, sometimes a full half, and Game 3 would be the dress rehearsal and players would play the first half, and usually pop back in for the first drive of the second half to get used to the delay of halftime.  Game 4 the starters would all sit and the primary backups and depth players would get a final shot to prove their worth.  With a full week off between the final preseason game and the regular season, sitting the starters in the last game isn't even necessary like it used to be.

Yes, it would suck if they get hurt in a PS game and they miss time.   It would also suck if they get hurt in practice and miss time.   Maybe we should stop having them practice altogether?  Seems the only logical conclusion to be drawn.   Injuries are a reality in the NFL.  That's just the nature of the game.  And no one can do anything to stop them from happening.  Rules have been changed to make the injuries less life altering, but its the nature of the beast.   (And the same is true of every other sport too.  And players see limited action in those preseason games across all the leagues.)

Now, if the starters are playing more than about 7-10 drives, I'd be upset about it.  Very upset about it.   But, if they suffer a Ki-Jana Carter injury... there's nothing that anyone can do about it.   That's just how it goes.   (For the uninitiated, the Ki-Jana Carter injury was on the second snap of his first preseason game, he blew out his knee untouched in the backfield.  And frankly, was never the same after that.   A sad ending for a great great running back.). That type of thing can happen any time, any where.  Teddy Bridgewater had a horrific injury like that in a practice.  Things happen like that with football.  These guys are bigger, stronger, faster, etc. and the strains on the tendons and ligaments are real.  Sometimes they just give out.

Ultimately, just as the old heads, like myself, are going to have to deal with the softer practices and rust to start the year, so too are folks like yourself going to have to deal with the old heads complaining about it.  Some old dogs learn new tricks much slower than others.  Some never do.  As with most things... its a process.   Ah well... even Tastykake isn't what it used to be!

I'd prefer teams practice and get more run in the PS like they used to also.

But like you said it's the way it is now.  Just wait till they add an 18th game and cut the PS to 2 games.

That field was trash and games in third wild countries should be left to the teams with losing records.

Games in third world countries should be left to third world sports (soccer).

Can someone tell me what think new kick off rules are trying to achieve ?

i honestly don’t get it.

Its still boring and pointless.  But less high speed collisions.

Player safety 👍

Imagine being a Green Bay fan.  Arguably the hottest team in the NFC to close out last season.  Friday they were afforded two turnovers in the first quarter and couldn’t punch in the ball.  One, the interception was the result of a field slip as much as anything.  Then they got two TDs as the result of field slips.  25% in the red zone.  And their QB got hurt.  Their D gave up 34 points to an offense that spotted them 3 turnovers.  The D has to be saying that they are glad they don’t have to see Smith again in the regular season.

Hurts had some bad plays, for sure.  Needs to adjust how he reacts to pressure.  But he did keep his eyes downfield more.  These were the first live snaps he has had this year. Same with the rest of the team.  The timing on the brotherly shove was off. But that is pretty impossible to practice. That will fix itself.  Not worried.  OL will gel quickly enough.

Reserving to adjust my thoughts after the All22. But defense looked pretty good considering the impact of the field.  Mitchell got better as the game went on DeJean got more snaps than Ricks. Maddox is a quick twitch player and the field hurt that kind of play.  Dean’s coverage still makes me cringe.  But they worked out some wrinkles.

Love the motion.  Loved how Fangio disguised and the Hurtt impact on how the DL played the gaps with some good shifts.  Buckle up, this is going to be a fun ride.

if he scores a TD today I get 99 bucks. So.... this makes sense.

Tyreek Hill pulling a Scottie Scheffler, classic. He’ll now go off and have 3 touchdowns today.

I think people are way too quick to rush to judgement.  Every year is the same, some teams starts out hot, gets anointed as the coming team to beat, then goes into a tailspin. And some team comes out of nowhere mid-season after a slow start. The first few games are when most upsets occur, before teams settle into a groove (or fall apart).

You have to take the first four or so games with a grain of salt.

It's another new scheme for Hurts, plus he's added pre-snap calls. New blitz pick-up scheme, getting used to pre-snap motion, etc.

Just looking at the back seven, you could see they're a lot more athletic, but they also had communication problems, not surprising since even if the defense isn't that new (Desai was a Fangio protege), the terminology is probably different, and a lot of new players learning to get on the same page (only returning starters were Slay and Blackenship).

If the Eagles hit the bye week 3-1, with two weeks to make adjustments given enough game film to see what works and which players may need to be replaced, they're going to have a great season.

first mock for these guys. Eagles picking 26th.

PSU S Kevin Winston Jr. on the board. They opt for LSU LB/undersized edge hybrid Harold Perkins Jr. Some pretty decent options there.

So really got a slate of college games yesterday.  How about Northern Illinois?  Watched the two top QBs on draft prognosticators’ boards.  Ewers looks like an NFL starting QB.  Sanders on the other hand, while strong armed, doesn’t.  Raiola in his second game as a true freshman looked better.  Don’t blame it on the protection.  Sanders holds the ball too long to be successful in the NFL.

My lowly (rebuild year) UH Coogs kept it close with OU.  That was a shocker.  So was Ball State for PSU.  Somebody teach Iowa how to score on offense.  Got the DVR loaded up with more games for later this week.  I watch them like the condensed games on NFL+.  A game like that takes 35-45 minutes.  The great thing about this time of year is we do get some smaller schools games against bigger competition.  Great to scout those teams players.

Dak 4 years 240M. 231 guaranteed.

Today's games:

Of course rooting for Bucs, Browns and Vikings to win.  Also pulling for the Steelers and Panthers and Seahwaks (I can't stand the Broncos and Payton even less.)

I think Kelce was getting a bit tired toward the end. Jurgens is a great replacement. Hurts had a lot of time in the pocket, almost GOAT like. Could be better coaching.

I wish they would get rid of the shove in the red zone. They need to utilize their receivers in those situations.

Good for Dak.

Savor it bloggers, for the next few hours at least, the Eagles will maintain its lead as the top scoring offense in the NFL.

Dak got paid!! So does that mean we can pry parsons from them for free?

It’s always "coaching”.. how about he just isn’t that good? At what point do people start holding hurts accountable?

Great negotiating strategy.  What until other the other QBs get signed, continually driving up the price and sign Dak desperately hours before the season opener.

From what I saw, Hurts had a great game. Looked like 2022 Hurts. Just needs to be consistent and not get banged up. Mental exhaustion seems to be another issue. Also, he was beating himself up last season even when they were winning. Hope that has changed.

I like BLG but this is beyond ESP levels of stupid. Imagine calling someone who just got basically a quarter of a Billion dollars dumb and suggesting he should play a 17 game season at age 31.

Highest paid player in NFL history. I guess he really lost here somehow... Maybe if he waited they could have guaranteed that last 9 million that they got away with.

The dumbest GM in football strikes again. Without commenting at all on whether Dak is worth the contract (we don’t have the details), carrying him at 55mm on the cap all offseason and allowing your team to lose key pieces…and then extending him is criminal mismanagement. If you wanted to keep him, sign him in March, free up space, and keep some other pieces.

Jerry being terrible at his job is such a blessing for us.
