I think Vick needed to get rocked in order to change.  Better weapons and a better coach only would have sped up the catastrophe.  BUT…he had a historic turnaround.  And I mean the off the field turnaround.  I have more respect for Vick than the vast majority of pro athletes.  So I don’t think AR having him as a rookie would have changed the course of history…maybe everything that went down going down just a few years earlier and getting him to Philly at a younger age would have though.

Mcnabb on the other hand…he had incredible weapons and OL from year 6 on.  For his entire prime, he had a HOF offensive coach, the best OL in the nfl, and great weapons.  So his WRs sucked in his early years.  Big deal.  He has no excuses and he didn’t have it between the ears.

There are plenty of other social media accounts for them to use and they're there for like 3 days. They'll survive. You're acting like they're playing this game in Pyongyang in a complete media blackout 🙄.

There's like 50 legitimate reasons why this trip is an abysmal idea by the NFL. This ain't one of them.

The main point was will Brazil arrest teams/NFL for posting on X while they are there, especially if they use a VPN?  Anyone on business in Brazil (as the NFL, Teams, etc are) could be impacted by the ban. That is one part.  There is a smarter wider point than lol, just don't post on X for 3 days, there are other social media platforms.

Taking the point on, think about how the largest social media network potentially provides local Philly writers with ad sharing revenue stream for their posts if they get high engagement (as an example), Brazil's ban could be a monetary dip on that.  Print journalism, in particular, is an industry dying before our eyes, so any way to diverse revenue streams should be seen as a positive to maintaining the industry, and equally for those Philly bloggers whose presence is largely online, this could have a larger impact on their revenues too.

There are other impacts to a business model too.  The NFL will be forced to look at if Brazil and if the market is worth the investment if this spat continues.  If the game has protests, what does it do to the NFL product. Etc, etc, etc....

So ok boomer is a relevant reply.  The current thing is a wider point than don't post on X for 3 days lol.

I’m catching back up on the news cycle and everything. I know some of these quotes might have been pulled and placed in a vacuum, but one of the big things this year that will determine how far this team goes is at the line adjustments.  I’m not a fan of ‘halted’ being used and ‘told not to worry’ about learning bits that came out of Hurts and Siri’s mouth.   Based off what we know of Kelce and Hurts, I’m sure they had some sit downs where Hurts got to pick Kelce’s brain on why he called adjustments like he did.  I’m really hoping they aren’t biting off more than Hurts can chew with pre snap responsibilities.

Side note, the incident with Pearsall, happy to hear the kid is ok and released already.  Escaping needing a chest tube is a good thing for his future.

Not so sure about incredible weapons from ‘year 6 on’.  They traded for TO, then there was a 4? Year gap till DJ was drafted.  They certainly tried after the TO fiasco with Curtis and Stallworth.  Unless you’re counting the over reliance on BWest.  Overall the talent wasn’t terrible, and during that period some did more with less.  At the end of the day, as you said it came down to grey matter with McNabb IMO.

Well you've pivoted completely from your original point of players not being able to "talk about issues" while they're there. Which is good because that was kinda silly and what WGB was responding to.

NFL social media teams and sports writers will likely just have members of their teams not in Brazil post anything they ask to their twitter accounts. No need for a VPN if you can just text Steve from the social media department "hey, post on my account that Jalen Hurts sucks". Or just post links there to a live blog or something. I doubt we see any noticable drop-off in engagement on Twitter during the game.  Like I said easily mitigated and definitely not worth the NFL involving themselves in a politicized pissing match.

The safety concerns, taking away a home opener and the wildfires on the other hand are legitimate gripes.

Yes I don't like losing a Home game but I'm not mad at getting to the see the Birds in Primetime on Friday Night to start the season.  I'm already arranging a huge watch party and even have non Eagles fans coming, it's a huge game.  Guys they picked us because the Eagles are a big time NFL Ratings Draw.  The Packers had a great playoff run last year and were inches away from appearing in a NFC Title game.  This game also features Jalen and Love who both are rising Stars in the League.   It's about elevating new faces.  The NFL has done a great job showcasing the new talent of the league, there are so many young QB's now.

Yup. Eagles are a top 4 team ratings wise (Cowboys, Chiefs and yes, Jets).

Am I the only one genuinely excited for the Eagles to play in Brazil?

It’s a huge opportunity to not only expand the game, but to also get a country and one of the biggest cities in South America behind the Eagles. I think international growth for the game only benefits it in the long run.

I have several coworkers in the São Paulo, and they have been nothing but excited for this and have talked about how big it is down there.

I kinda am.  I just wish it wasn't the home opener, and I wish the fires weren't an issue. It was really fun to see how big it was on a fall Sunday in Mexico City last time I was there. I also agree it's really weird they designated teams to a certain region then they're not the ones playing there.

I was indifferent on it initially, but reading all the reports on health concerns and air quality from down there, I think it’s incredibly irresponsible of the NFL to continue to force it.  But then again they serve the almighty dollar above all else.

Im not sure we can say Vick didnt play with leaders in ATL. I think he needed his jail sentence to change. Hitting rock bottom, and a chance to reflect and reform.

Vick said as much. When he heard the cell door slam at Leavenworth is when it got real for him. He said as much in an article years ago that I doubt I could find again. Like young phenoms before and since his gifts insulated him from his actions. That cell door at Leavenworth didn't care.

As far as the benefits to the game, I can see how it helps the league and owners financially, but I don’t see how it in any way enhances our enjoyment as fans given that it takes a crucial home game away from us, (us meaning any NFL fans, not just the Birds. All teams have to do this eventually.) If it’s going to be done, it should only be done with the "17th” opponent. The new oddball game the league added against the out of conference opponent.

That all said, I hope when Dallas has to lose a home game, they have to play KC on North Sentential Island.

Why Brazil though? I Soccer is God, and you ain't picking up enough fan support to make a difference

Reid was essentially a rookie head coach then too who says Vick even listens to him?

\_(ツ)_/¯

No one knows but I’d take that chance. Vick had elite elite traits and could be scary good with a guy like Reid behind him for his whole career. McNabb was very good but it didn’t lead to any Super Bowls so give me the mystery box.

Home opener is really the best option though. You certainly wouldn’t want to do all this in the middle of the season.

Playing in a dome conditions teams to be soft. It is my singular NFL conspiracy theory, and here’s today’s stat to back it up:

A dome team has never won a conference championship game outdoors

Arizona - 0-1

Detroit - 0-1

Indianapolis - 0-3

St. Louis Rams - never played one

New Orleans - 0-1

Minnesota - 0-3

Dallas - never played one

Houston - never played one

Atlanta - 0-1

The Eagles 3-0 in Home Openers Under Sirianni and Hurts.   The Eagles are also 1-0 in International Games (Europe) (Packers 0-1).   The Eagles have won their last 7 out 8 Home Openers (Only loss during Pandemic year).

Maybe right before a bye could work? I dunno I get that it's logistically easier but it just really sucks for the home team to lose that.

I don’t think you realize how big Brazil is. It’s home to over 215 million people. The US has roughly 330 million. There’s a lot of Fing money to be made in Brazil.

Speaking only for myself, I wouldn't be attending the game if it were being played at the Linc. For me whether it's played 20 miles or 4700 miles away doesn't really matter. There's a home field advantage, how much that would matter to the team being the first game of the season I don't know vs. being on neutral ground for both teams.

Jordan Matthews just made the Panthers’ 53-man roster (yes THAT Jordan Matthews)

Did you intend to mean under a certain temperature?

Arizona was outdoors in the 2015 NFCCG in Carolina.

Detroit was just outdoors in San Fran this past season, and Dallas won an NFCCG in SF at the end of the 92 season.

What happened to your other hand? Shark attack? Accident with the garbage disposal? Were you caught stealing in Medieval Europe and they severed your hand? We want answers!

Good call, I’ll add those two as losses.

And Dallas was an outdoor team in 1992. They moved to their dome in 2009

What does that have to do with them giving a crap about football? They don't care.

The NBA will have massive appeal before the NFL makes a dent.
