I love the All-22. So much more you can see, especially in line play. One thing that really struck me was how disjointed our DL was. I understand that they're given much more freedom in their pass rush but they ran into each other several times, were undisciplined in their gap responsibilities, and made it difficult for the LBs in their run fits. Not good. Hurtt has a lot of work to do with them.

For example: Ojomo #97 and Carter. Carter is head up on #75.

I'm going to go ahead and ask for forgiveness for the time I was saying Deion is going to be a great college coach. What a joke he's become. Everything he's done makes me dislike him even more. Shedeur is proving to be an apple that didn't fall far from the tree either. I'm glad they got curb stomped in Nebraska. I hope it continues.

Is that real about the song thing?  Unreal if it is…

I may have missed one or two but it appeared to me that Carter was double-teamed on every snap that Jordan Davis was not in the field. That doesn't show up on a stat sheet but it means something.

Footing was terrible for the linemen too.

It means we better hope they both stay healthy

How did Nolan and Huff look?

Invisible. They're quick-twitch guys who rely on speed. The field was like a frozen pond and they had no chance. That's why BG played so much. His game is based on power.

Not to be negative on Jalen Carter, but it seems to me that as impressive as some of his plays are when he's pancaking a lineman, all he's doing is taking himself out of the play. Great for highlights, but doesn't do much for the game. He needs to learn to play under control and to make an impact on the whole play, rather than just the lineman across from him.

Yeah it was his kryptonite last year, if you try it and he picks it up and beats it 9 times out of 10 or whatever that  tweet said it was on Friday, why would you keep flogging a dead horse?

I mean I'm not paid to know this stuff like Sheil is obviously, but if they carried on and he'd beaten it 19 times out of 20 the question on his podcast would be why did Green Bay keep blitzing when Hurts looked better against that than ordinary pass rush.

Couldn’t disagree more.  I’d hate to see this defense without him

The point was they didn't do it at all. They mostly rushed 4 all game and when they did blitz, they sent 5. They never sent 6 which is what Hurts struggled with last year. Even if he did well against a conventional blitz you would think they would try a zero blitz at least once or twice.

Hurts was fine against the blitz in 2022.  Most coaches already know that he can beat it.  And the weapons they have make it a very scary thing when he does.  I don’t think they were really blitzing Hurts at the end of last season as much as they were blitzing the Eagles offensive scheme and playcalling.

And defenses knew he wasn’t healthy too

Bryce Young or Will Levis will be an Eagle in 2 years for a 4th round pick and will be Howie's next "throw a dart at a young high draft pick for depth" QB.

That’s my area of concern. I said it in the off-season that this was a big year for Jalen hurts. He had to prove that his turnover/decision-making was closer to 2022 and not last year where he was up and down. I think the next couple weeks will give us an indicator. It was week one so i am willing to give him more leeway. He should theoretically get better as the season continues and more game reps. If we’re still talking about the same thing in week 8 then we need to have a bigger discussion. Imo 23 turnovers in his last 18 regular season games is too many. I’d say the same thing with Josh Allen. I’ll say this with Josh Allen, I don’t think he can have that amount of turnovers this season. Because I don’t think their roster is as good as years past to overcome that amount.

The second INT was aggravating, not only because of decision making but recognition as well.  That ball needed to be thrown early, and I watched that throw in contrast to the long TD throw Love made, by climbing the pocket instead of vacating it and rolling right -- which is a Hurts staple that Moore/Nussmeier need to slowly break him of.  It'd be great if it could be done by Week 2, but that isn't going to happen -- if it happens at all.

Some of the weaknesses Zierlein points out in his scouting profile below are still there 4 years later; that's not unique at all to Hurts; some weaknesses are just baked into any prospect, and Hurts is still 26, so there is hopefully still more development to be had.

Most of the points at the end are still quite prevalent in Hurts' game:

Weaknesses

Has issues sustaining rhythm as passer with so many off-schedule throws. Inconsistent patience allowing routes to develop. Slow recognition of early throw opportunities. Leaves slants and crossers behind targets. Misses checkdowns and opts for harder throws. Deep arm dip into elongated release. Forced speedsters at OU and Alabama to slow for deep throws. Needs to get better at trusting his pocket. Quick to drop his eyes when pressure mounts. More likely to void pocket than climb, scan and throw from it.

I didn't love the INT's obviously but the play that drove me the craziest was taking the sack at end of first half.  Why he didn't throw that out of bounds is beyond me.

Neither will be… I hope Howie is smarter than that.  Pickett may suck as a starter, But picking up a guy for your back up that has at least won NFL games as a starter is different than the disaster that is Bryce Young (who can’t even see over the offensive lineman).  Will Levis?  I don’t know.  I’d take him over Young, but that is not saying much (if anything)

I think Howie definitely saw a potential issue with Reddick.  I really hope Huff works out, but it’s pretty easy to see where Howie’s mind was in this.  I’m not sure anyone was really aware of this, but Reddick clearly has a screw loose.  Anyone that thinks it’s logical to skip game checks, probably wouldn’t have listened to Fangio as much as he should if he stayed.

Howie vision was right again it appears.

Actually, if you look at his career playoff record, that's completely erroneous.

I'm not talking about his career. I'm talking about what happens in today's NFL.

Except for that one year he happened to be a SB MVP & SB Champion.

What year was that exactly? I'm more so referencing today's NFL not 12 years ago when they actually played tackle football and defenses weren't totally handicapped.

Got to be quite happy with that! It was just against no blitz that he struggled 😂.

You’ve confused me. So your position is that only elite QBs can win Super Bowls?

All I'm saying is once he learns how to play under control, he will be able to make an even bigger impact.
