They couldn't sign anyone this offseason because of Dak's cap hit.  I get it if the plan is to move on from Dak but his price isn't going down by waiting and they don't seem to be planning to move on from him.

That's why I have been saying that the absolute dumbest thing they could do is resign him. Costing yourself the entire offseason and basically relegating yourself to being a fringe playoff contender this year only makes sense if the decision has been made to move off Dak after this season. But...if that's the case, then they should have tried to trade him...

Extending him now basically means you wasted a year of his prime for no reason other than being cheap/stupid.

Of course, the same thing applied to waiting on Ceedee.

Does anyone know if Peacock has blackout restrictions? I live in South Jersey, and the game will be on NBC10. However, I’m out of town and without cable until Saturday. Can we still watch the game on Peacock, or should we go to a bar or something?

I'd think it would be fine. Peacock is NBC anyway, they aren't going to blackout themselves.

Possible. He’s gotten to 2 SBs and lost to mahomes both times. He’s been to 4 nfc title games. Pretty good resume for a coach who’s QBs have been Jimmy G and purdy with that type of success. Tbh i think people would be far less concerned heading into this year with the eagles if he was their coach. Don’t get me wrong i think he has warts and flaws. But i think if he’s fired he wouldn’t be out of a job for very long.

to me, the John Lynch aspect makes way more sense. Because John Lynch would have been crucified if Brock Purdy didn’t turn out the way he did. He gets credit for identifying him in the 7th round and taking that chance. But what he gave up for Trey Lance would’ve sunk and hurt them if purdy didn’t become what he has. To me they’d still be searching for a QB and having to trade more assets to get it or they would’ve gone kirk cousins.

It's kind of surprising that there isn't more reported tension between Shanahan and Lynch given their supposed disagreement over Lance.  I agree he wouldn't be out of a job but I think there's a question about whether he can win the big game.  There's an argument that the defense has played more of a role than his offense has.

Oh they could've if they really wanted to, just roll it into future years, they have plenty of cap space '26 (160m) & '27 (219m)...the sticking point right now, according to reports, is the length of the contract.

I personally hope they do not extend him and have him play out the contract he is on. Eat the 40 mil next year (void year) it's no different than having a heavy dead money year...

Just part of the business.

Maybe Devin doesn't play much in week 1 and they use the injury excuse.

I've not heard of them doing blackouts. I live in TN but when games are on NBC or CBS even locally here, they are simulcast on Peacock and Paramount+

I think only DirecTV did blackouts due to the way their contract was structured.

Hurts on the long flight: only a few extra hours than travel to California. The team does a good job always preparing them with routines such as hydration, wearing leg sleeves, etc.

If the intention were to extend him, then they could have converted almost $28mm of his base salary this year ($29mm total) into a signing bonus and spread it out over 5 years. Would have freed up over $22mm in cap space but increased the 2025 hit if he walks to over $62mm (gets pushed when you get an extension done). With $22mm of cap space (plus more if they got Ceedee done), they could have kept some of the major pieces they lost (LT, C, RB, CB, DE3, DE4). They could have done this while still working on an extension.

The only 2 reasons not to do it are (i) you have no intention of extending him or (ii) you have liquidity issues and can't pay out the $28mm in March.

The Cowboys are guilty of borderline criminal mismanagement of the salary cap.

I don't think Trey Lance ever got a fair opportunity there.  He started 2 games in 2021 and 2 games in 2022.  It was a given he was green as a prospect and needed some development; I don't think Shanahan ever wanted to spend the time developing him.

That's not to say Lance was a wonderful prospect they wrecked, but the Niners totally botched that whole Jimmy G/Trey Lance dynamic and fell ass-backwards lucky into Purdy being able to run the offense.

Maybe but they haven't tried to bring someone from his coaching tree over to the team.  They interviewed Saleh, but they could have interviewed either McDaniel or LaFleur when Pederson was let go.

Why wouldn't it be the reason if he doesn't play?

They want to start Nakobe and Baun over him.

I am not sure how much of it to put on Shanahan.  It does highlight the problem and the difference between Shanahan and Reid.  Reid looks at a player like Mahomes and thinks about ways he can change his offense to maximize the player's skills.  Shanahan looks at a player and measures there fit for his scheme.

I don't think either were ready at the time. McDaniel wasn't even an OC yet when the Eagles were looking. Neither was LaFleur. I don't think many if any teams have interviewed LaFleur for a HC job to this day.

They being who? Vic Fangio is going to start who he wants and will punch Howie in the face if he disagrees.

Before I retired, for thirty years I averaged more than a trip a week.  When I was young, I developed the ability to sleep anywhere. So I slept a lot on planes. Overseas trips were usually United in Business Class laydown seats.  Trick to beating jet lag is to sleep when you would be sleeping where you are going. So overseas at night I would sleep as soon as I boarded but wake up way before the others.   Going west, I would force myself to stay awake.  I avoided red eyes with a passion domestically.

Knew a Professional Flight Engineer that did mostly European flights so overnight. He left his watch on Pennsylvania time.

It's been over a decade since I did overseas travel.  But the best experience was on Virgin Atlantic.  They would actually convert your seat into a flat bed.  Not a full recline, a real bed with a sheet and pillows.  It was key on the longer flights to Asia.

Regardless, I'd still be screwed up for several days due to the jet lag.

All these old heads out here getting paid

Which position group from the Packers do you think will give us the most trouble?  Minus QB

Still time to trade for Reddick back and pay him.

D-Line. They have some meat in the middle that will test Jurgens. EDGE is also probably their strongest position. The starters are good and they also have good depth in Van Ness, Kingsley Enagbare and Devonte Wyatt. You know they will come out blitzing against an O-line that hasn't had many live reps all together with Hurts setting the protections for the first time. Becton is also a giant question mark in pass pro.

RB could be the next position simply because they have Josh Jacobs and who knows if the tackling has improved at all.

Should be on Peacock everywhere outside Philadelphia & Green Bay markets.

I’m in Florida and it’s on Peacock down here.
