Peters was ready to throw hands with the entire Washington roster after that Baker cheap shot. That Chip Era always feels like a blur to me, but that was a great win.

LB who doesn't start and doesn't play ST can't be active.

It seems like every year this team just has one really, REALLY weird situation.

So...other than Stroud, we may be at a point where the college game is no longer producing NFL ready QBs.

College is square pegs in square holes with ‘systems’. Has been for a while, very few places cultivate and develop talent.

Hope Johnson comes back, but he's not that good at anything really, just meh at a lot of things. Those guys have value, but I think Hunt will be an upgrade.

Pretty interesting trend. The league has always been cyclical and we might be seeing the needle move back to rushing attacks. Especially in the red zone where it tightens up and is harder for QBs to make the necessary throws. This also might be a tale on the overall quality of quarterbacks outside of the top tier of guys.

And... the QBs don't play in 'pro-style' offenses in NCAA.  So, coming to the pros, they aren't equipped for the NFL game, so the NFL game is moving more towards the college game.   That said... if these QBs aren't at the same level of the QBs of the past, then why are they being paid at such a ridiculously high rate compared to all other positions?   It doesn't add up, and the QB bubble will burst soon.  Only a very very select few can truly carry a team.   There's Mahomes... and ???   Ok, it seems its just Mahomes.  The rest are highly highly highly dependent on the players that surround them.

Actually, I think that trend might reverse with the NIL money pouring in while the NFL rookie pay scale limits their potential earnings at the pro level. I forget his name but there was that flash in the pain OSU QB with a big arm that stepped in for an injured JT Barrett, had success on a stacked team, and then decided to go pro way too early and torpedoed his career before it even started. I wonder if the NIL money was aroudn back then, if he'd have made a different decision.

Haskins?  RIP

I think he’ll end up getting claimed. He’s cheap and can offer some value especially to bad teams. He also put together some pretty good tape this preseason that might be fresh in some teams minds.

I'm loving this Nick press conference.  He's telling the whole story again.

I think it's also teams overvaluing and overdrafting QBs. It used to be common that you had one or two QBs being drafted in the top 10 in most drafts, but even outside of that, each draft class as a whole might produce a couple decent passers while most were always going to be busts/backups/journeymen. Just this past April, we saw QBs being taken with 6 of the first 12 picks. When that many QBs go that early, it shouldn't be a surprise if 4 or 5 of them end up being disappointments relative to their draft position based on the numbers game alone. You kinda touched on it with the Young situation, but owners are more impatient with coaches, who are in turn going to be more impatient with prospects. Long gone are the days where an Aaron Rodgers (who was the second QB off the board late in the first round) would sit for 3 years before making his first start.

And that's why the price tags are so ridiculously high.   Far too many teams are desperately afraid of losing even a mediocre QB, because they don't think they would be able to replace them. That's a pretty damning admission about how NFL teams view the incoming classes of QBs.   And... teams jump on these young guys WAY too soon in the draft, because there are truly so few.   And then they convince themselves about what they think they are, rather than what they are.   And then they throw them into the fray WAY sooner than they are really ready and they are exposed and fizzle.

Meanwhile, as was pointed out, the 'journeyman' QBs of Baker Mayfield, Derek Carr and Sam Darnold stood out early this year.  Why is that?  Because they've been in the NFL for a number of years and their heads are no longer spinning and teams are no longer looking to them to be the savior of the franchise, but rather just another cog in the machine - granted a very important cog, but still just a cog.

Jordan Love also got to sit and learn before being thrown into the fray.  Seems the idea of just throwing them in as rookies is very very dangerous.   Oh... and Mahomes?   Yeah, he sat too at the beginning of his career as well.

Panthers mishandled the draft.  Coaches wanted Stroud; owner wanted Bryce Young.

Young is 5'10" and 180 lbs.  He showed up at he Combine carrying water weight and someone from the Panthers believed it.

They took a swing on a big time outlier. No elite physical skills for the position. Even Smitty, a huge outlier in himself being 160 lbs with 4.48ish speed drafted 10th overall, had elite hands, body control, flexibility, etc. Young's just bad to decent in every physical attribute. Even Kyler has an awesome arm, elite speed, and a BMI that makes sense for the position.

But beyond all that the biggest difference between Smitty and Young? Smitty's a dog. Young seems as soft as Andre Dillard, just shell-shocked.

These two teams are done.

That’s Fernando Noriega I believe

Sirianni is only 3 inches shorter than Wilson.

Isaiah Rodgers plays football today. He's going to be flying out there.

Wilson is active.

Knowing how Sirianni likes to pander, he's 100% running the Philly Special tonight with Foles there.

How about 7 passing TDs?

Jalyx Hunt is active. Hope he gets to do something cool.

Man, it's crazy he's a healthy scratch.  We don't have a lot of depth at LB.  There must be some part of his game (or locker room presence) that the coaches are not digging.

You think Hurts is fast?

I think he's faster than you think he is.

Navigating Next Gen stats isn't user friendly yet (hopefully that changes soon). But here's a clip of data from the 2022 season:

Top 10 fastest QB plays in 2022

Next Gen Stats tracks the fastest speeds from a ball-carrier each week during the season, including the playoffs. This isn't all encompassing — some weeks, 20.5 mph might crack the top 20; some weeks, it might not.

But there is still plenty of useful information to be gleaned from the data Next Gen Stats has compiled. Here's a look at the fastest plays by quarterbacks logged during the 2022 season:

Player Team Top Speed (mph) Week Play Event
Justin Fields Bears 21.23 8 6-yard rush*
Marcus Mariota Falcons 20.76 9 5-yard rush
Justin Fields Bears 20.72 9 17-yard rush TD
Jalen Hurts Eagles 20.5 1 16-yard rush
Lamar Jackson Ravens 20.48 2 79-yard rush TD
Justin Fields Bears 20.41 10 28-yard rush
Justin Fields Bears 20.39 17 60-yard rush
Justin Fields Bears 20.33 9 61-yard rush TD
Josh Allen Bills 20.31 8 10-yard rush
Marcus Mariota Falcons 20.17 3 2-yard rush

Totally weird.  Don't much like it.

It does seem unexpected. He assumed a significant leadership role on the team in camp, so I figured he'd be all about the team. I don't really want to speculate on the reason until we get more information.

It's easy for college QBs to look great when maybe one player on the opposing defense would start in the NFL.

The speed of the game, the physicality, and, most importantly, the schemes are at a different level.

All of that has been since time immemorial.   QBs entering the league now are less prepared for the NFL than 20 years ago.

If they did it right it was by accident not planning. They are no different from every other team throwing the high draft pick QB into the fire. They did it with Wentz lest we forget. The only reason they didn't do it with Hurts was because Wentz was the clear #1 at the start of the season. Only after his wheels came off did we turn to Hurts.

The original plan for Wentz his rookie year was to sit.  He beat out Bradford, and then they got a larceny from Minny on top.  But, let's not forget that while Wentz played at D1-AA... he did play in a pro style offense at NDSU.

You’ll hate me for saying this, but you definitely don’t want to get between a Kelce and a camera.
