They can’t replace Fangio after the Desai/Patricia debacle last year. For better or worse he will be here at least 2 seasons I’d guess.

I think it depends. If Sirianni is gone and they want someone in demand like a Ben Johnson or a Bobby Slowik, I don't think they are going to shoot themselves in the foot by demanding Fangio stays the DC. They might suggest it but it's going to be up to the new HC. Unless they just hire another unknown guy like Nick was who will just say yes to whatever.

Is Belicheck above coming on as a DC here? Maybe he wants a slightly diminished role so he can have some time with his girlfriend. I dont really want him as HC, but Id sure like him to come fix this defense.

Hes a guy who can re-create a defense or at least aspects of it right in the middle of a season too. I remember the one year they had a poor defense, and he at least found a way to make the pieces work well enough to become a top red zone defense.

Why would BB come back to coaching at 72 and leave Jordan at home by herself? Nah...it's bad enough he's doing TV and taking away from playtime already...just enjoy the retirement and the spoils that he already has...

I remember talking a few times about the incoming leadership void with the core 4 all on the way out the door and who would step up once they are gone. It's pretty disappointing that one of the guys who publicly acknowledged this and said he would have to step up to lead the defense has already been benched as a disciplinary action in Week f'ing 2. You also gotta wonder how many times Jalen Carter has been late to meetings/practice. I doubt it was just once that caused the Eagles to keep their best defensive player on the bench. You also have to question if he is negatively impacting someone like Jordan Davis who is his best friend. Between the pre-draft stuff and other incidents that happened over last year, you just hope he starts to grow up at some point but he's not off to a good start.

Long term, it's also a bit worrisome to back the brink trucks up for a guy like that. Money changes people even more and if he's still not showing the commitment and dedication needed to be great, you have to really think hard if that's a guy you want to build the defense around. He has talent but he's coming off very Albert Haynesworth like to me.

Given the way they collapsed last year and had veteran players in Cox and Reddick there along with Slay and BG, they all talked about the young guys stepping up. This season is a prove it year for Carter and Davis. They traded up for both of them and took them in the 1st round. That was supposed to solidify the DT position with dominance for 10 years.

There are adjustments expected as they all get used to new schemes with both coordinators being new. But that doesn't mean effort, heart, work ethic, self-discipline like being on time for meetings and the things that aren't impacted by a new scheme.

Last year they were winning games but on the edge of a cliff trying to hold off the opponent. The Bills game wore them out, then the 49ers broke them and they fell off the cliff. They were not able to find a way to pick themselves up and improve in that entire stretch.

So they were supposed to shrug that off, flush the toilet, plant a new garden whatever analogy they want to use and then refocus this year. So mentally and emotionally, how will they step up and handle adversity?

Don't agree with that. If the season goes badly, I think they gut the entire coaching staff and start over.

If we go sub 500, everyone except for Stoutland is getting fired.

John McMullen was saying that Fangio doesn’t talk to Kellen or Nick. If that’s true then that’s a pretty glaring and odd situation. This whole setup is a mess and was doomed from the start. No continuity, no plan, just organized (if you can call it that) chaos all around. Lurie + Howie really created an untenable situation it appears.

If that's true the situation is only going to go downhill from here, it also suggests that Fangio is another Patricia, imposed on Sirianni as a condition.

People always say HC candidates will be lining up to come here, our last two coaches made the Superbowl and were on the hotseat being pressured to change their staff within 3 years.

If they bin Sirianni and install old father time BB, the team will be a dumpster fire for the next 5 years, the Patriots have looked   improved since he left.

Agree, and even if they don't go sub .500, but miss the playoffs with 9 wins I think the same happens.

I'll be happy to finally get rid of Aaron Moorehead.

If staring down the barrel of 1-4 or 2-5, f it. Tear it down. Fire Sirianni. Give Moore a test run. Plus a Top 15 pick in 2025 yields a plus Edge or DT. Howie in the basement please.

Why put Howie in thee basement. Why not just let go

I can't believe I'm going to type this, but...I miss Gannon.

In 2022, we'd have Sweat/Hargrave/Joseph/Cox/Reddick out there on run downs. White and Edwards, along with Slay/JB/Epps/CJGJ. If they threw on 1st down, we trusted the secondary to cover and the rush to get home. We'd stop the run and force guys into and and long, then bring in the pass rush. I have no clue why Fangio won't do the same.

Schwartz had a better Dline. I just hated his secondary and having the CBs lined up 10 yards off

I don't miss Gannon, I miss the actual TALENT we had along the DL that year.   They tried to replace the talent, and frankly have failed at that by a wide margin.  Davis isn't close to what Joseph was.  Carter isn't what Hargrave was that year.  Milton Williams isn't what Cox was.  And Huff/Smith are no where near what Reddick was.   Add to that that Sweat's knees seem to have aged over a decade in the last 2 years... and you have what we see on the field.   They are considerably WORSE across the board right now.   And when the DL can play that out of their minds... they can cover up a multitude of issues elsewhere.

Yes.

Meh.  The defense was really good statistically under Schwartz and more importantly was more situationally aware than our current DCs have been, including Gannon.    But, yeah... Jim Johnson was amazing.

Stoutland for Defensive Coordinator!

You loved Juandamentals. Get ready for a Stout defense.

I guess that's where I am a little different -- I don't think Hargarve is more talented than Carter, or Joseph is more talented than Davis. We just aren't maximizing the talent we have. Now, that may be because the players are lazy, or it might be the fault of coaching. I still can't get over seeing Barnett look unplayable here and instantly becoming a decent rotation piece in Houston. How is Byard looking for far in Chicago? I'm guessing better than he did here. It seems like we get very little out of our talent on defense.

Keeping TJ Edwards and Marcus Epps, two guys they gambled on, would have gone a long way IMO. You can't just gamble on guys and then once they become good players, let them walk and hope you strike gold again.

Just give him HC I’m okay with a mid season firing for a defensive coach. Our offense has the pieces and talent an OC can average us 30+ points if our defense could get off the field.

I wonder if letting Dennard Wilson walk was the beginning of the end.

Easily my biggest concern going forward. All future hires will be first timers they can control easily.

Interesting Twitter thread about the defense. The stuff about slanting is similar to what I initially thought, but it's way worse. It's a scheme issue and a personnel (at least at edge rusher) issue.

Tired of lining up in the same set every defensive play. Nolan Smith and Jalen Carter should be moved all over the line. Why we just put our defenders in the same exact slot 92% of the time is wild to me.

Where’s the versatility and creativity? Why aren’t we rotating safeties and letting them blitz? Why are our CBs always 10 yards away from their WR instead of getting hands on them?

This is the most readable defense pre-snap ever. You literally just split the field with two route combos, vacate the MLB and either throw to the place left, or have a timing route on the perimeter.

Also by playing 4 man pass rush against TEs and HBs it allows constant chips, to give QB time to defeat the obvious zone coverage.

Lastly, when we finally did blitz, it was slightly delayed, and he DBs was literally over 10 yards away from his man assignment. Which again, free release, easy timing, TD lmao. This guys’ defense is a slap in the face to every single player on this roster. It’d have been good like 20 years ago when teams were passing 20 times a game lol.

How much run support are we getting. When 4 of our players are constantly 10 yards away? Easy to dunk outside zones, put 4-6 hats on 2-3 DL and move up into the second level with free blockers. RB not getting touched for 5+ yards consistently.

Fangio is ass. Bend don’t break is just disgusting, passive, and why we have 0 shot for success.

Schwartz was a good DC who had absolute garbage in the secondary along with Malcolm Jenkins, and a usually a bad crop of LBs per Eagles history.

Gannon was an ok DC but he had a better roster. But his defense was unprepared in the SB and the Chiefs got not 1, but 2 WIDE OPEN TDs in the 4th quarter. That is what cost them the game. He had his mind on a head coaching job. F him.

Fangio so far is a failure. He talks tough in the media and publicly criticizes his players, which it was reported at prior teams the players didn't like him. Well is he going to talk tough and bash himself in press conferences for his horrible coaching? He is stubborn about his system but you can't have all the right players for a system in the first year, you have to adapt. You have to make changes if things aren't working.

Honestly, DeSai wasn't that bad last season. He was making adjustments and they were doing well in the 2nd half of games. Everyone thought the Dolphins offense would dominate but they were held to 10 points and shut out in the 2nd half. They held the Chiefs to lower points in the 2nd half as well. The offense was failing them too much last year. DeSai wasn't great and made mistakes too, but he was the easy scapegoat. If they didn't have Patrecia there it's possible they wouldn't have made that change, which turned out to be worse.

I'm curious if they kept DeSai and had him with consistency returning this year with the upgrades in the secondary would this be different? It was reported the players liked DeSai and didn't like how that went down.

This isn’t happening. I understand why a lot of fans are not happy after the way game 2 ended, and seeing some things that look bad on tape, but it’s still early in the season.

If the same issues are being discussed after week 4 then yes, question everything that’s going on with the organization. The Eagles are still a good team with a better chance than most, especially in the NFC, to have a great year.

Hate to break it to you but bend but don't break is extremely common in the league right now. It's actually kind of challenging to get away from it unless you target the outliers specifically, or try to go outside the league.
