First off, there's no way to move off Hurts this year or next year, so just stop speculating on it because it's not happening. After the 2025 season, we could trade him for a manageable cap hit, but really he is locked in on the roster until then. And frankly, Hurts is pretty low on the list of issues for this team. Looking around the league, it's not like there are a ton of QBs lighting it up right now and being significantly better. Before the last throw on Monday night, he played an efficient game without his best weapon.

The biggest issues on this team right now are...Sirianni and Fangio. Nick needs to find a consistent method on game management. Going for the 4th down in the first quarter and then kicking the FG at the end of the game simply can't be reconciled. 2022 Nick was Mr. Aggressive all year right up until he wimped out and punted on 4th and 3 in the Super Bowl. Now he seems to be doubting himself and playing it safe at the wrong times. Nick -- if you're going down, go down swinging.

But Fangio is a much larger problem because he seems to be obstinate in wanting to run his system regardless of the players he has. Huff isn't an every down player, so stop putting him out there and asking him to play the run. Use Nolan and BG on run downs, and bring Huff in as a pass rush specialist. Davis is a 2 down player. And go to 5 D lineman to stop the run already instead of always sitting back and being afraid of getting beat deep. Use CJGJ in the slot and Maddox at safety in nickel. Finally, Dean and Baun are good blitzers (so id White), so try blitzing them occasionally. Run some stunts on the D Line for once. I could go on, but our defense is basically 4 guys rush straight ahead with soft coverage behind...

After 2 weeks, I am so disappointed in Fangio. I said he was the most important addition of the offseason, and he is crapping the bed. And no, I don't think Davis, Carter, Sweat, etc. forgot how to play. Barnett is useless here, goes to Houston and gets used properly, and now he is a pass rush threat. Our defensive coaching is an abomination.

On the hurts part, it’s why I said they’re not moving off of him until after 2025 at the earliest. His contract doesn’t really allow for it until that point. Now they might position themselves so that after 2025 they have so they have a potential plan for after 2025. But then again we still have 15 games to play this season before they’re gonna start making any judgment on that. If it is at the end of the 15 games what they feel isn’t "good enough” that’s when they’ll  have that discussion.

on the defense with Fangio, I said this after the game and people wanted to get upset by it. You’re not paying Fangio the money that you’re paying him and bringing him in as he was the inventor/genius behind this defense for guys to not play better under him than Sean Desai. He was brought in because he was the master and was going to get more out of these players than any other coach with this system. on this blog and Eagles fans and even the team threw Desai under the bus. He was the problem with the defense. The personnel was only a little bit of the problem and their coaching was really bad. I’m not defending Desai, i don’t think he’s a good coach. But you got the master and the architect of this scheme, and yet I would argue it’s still bad. I would argue guys like Josh sweat, Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter actually played well the first month of the season last year under Desai. Desai also made adjustments in some of these games helped the defense get better in the second half (had games like commanders where it was bad throughout)

yes they have a personnel problem. that is also obvious but this scheme seems to be another problem. And so far is fangio not getting anything more out of certain guys that we were banking on when we hired the architect of the system then our previous much maligned previous DC. Imo there’s 3 issues on defense: 1) lack of personnel 2) scheme and 3) fangio being a great DC but not being able to help players we brought back make jumps under his coaching. The  eagles when they hired him were banking on the fact he’d run his scheme better than anybody else and that because he was a great defensive coordinator he could get more out of the players on the roster than the coaches they had previously.

John McMullen was saying that Fangio doesn’t talk to Kellen or Nick. If that’s true then that’s a pretty glaring and odd situation. This whole setup is a mess and was doomed from the start. No continuity, no plan, just organized (if you can call it that) chaos all around. Lurie + Howie really created an untenable situation it appears.

Not shocked.

Somewhere between Asomugha and Byron Maxwell.

Nah. I miss Jim Schwartz. I'm over anything "Fangio"

People would rip Jim Schwartz on here, but if you have a defensive coordinator that could get more out of less that’s the true value of having a great DC. Go look at 2018 with the amount of injuries, the Eagles had they still manage to be top 10 in points per game allowed. That’s because Schwartz was able to make a street free agents into a competent players. Go look at the amount of injuries they had in the secondary that year mcleod, maddox, mills, darby. The only starter they had from start to end of the season was Jenkins. Jernigan had his issue off the field and only played 3 games.

I would say its the top 2, maybe 3, at the position. If you do top 8, that's essentially a quarter of the starters for any position and you can't have 25% be elite.

When Brady, Manning, Brees and Rodgers were all playing you can say those 4 were all elite and that's the most amount of "elite" QBs that have played at the same time.

Mahomes right now is the only elite one.  Burrow, Allen, Herbert, Lamar and whoever else you wanna throw in there are not elite and a step below Kermit.

If Huff busts here its because of the coaching. He's averaging 31 snaps a game, he averaged 28 with the Jets last season.

I think it depends. If Sirianni is gone and they want someone in demand like a Ben Johnson or a Bobby Slowik, I don't think they are going to shoot themselves in the foot by demanding Fangio stays the DC. They might suggest it but it's going to be up to the new HC. Unless they just hire another unknown guy like Nick was who will just say yes to whatever.

I would also add that the Eagles want to use this scheme. The eagles got the architect and who everybody considers the genius to come here. So if the defense isn’t going to work with him, then you might have to change your philosophy on how you wanna run your defense. A major reason they brought in Fangio was because they believed he was a massive upgrade over every defensive coordinator running this scheme and that he could get guys we had to play better under his coaching. Not happening so far

So apparently one of the debate topics on the talking head ESPN show this morning was "Should Cover 2 defense be banned?” 🤣

Whatever defense the Eagles were playing on that last Falcons drive should be banned.

It's becoming too much of a pattern to just keep blaming coaching. Maybe it's the guy that picked the coach and then gave a big check to Huff.

I'll bury Fangio as much as the next guy but some things are beyond bad coaching

What I'm saying is the issue is not Huff.

This is the same guy. Do you think he all of a sudden completely forgot how to rush the passer?

Huff had 3 pass rush reps where he wasn't chipped and they hardly chipped any other pass rusher. When Huff moved sides, Cousins moved Bijan to the other side to chip him. There was a clear game plan against Bryce Huff. I don't think opposing coordinators would waste their time on a game plan for a specific player if they weren't any good.

I disagree with this, but this is what Albert Breer had in his column:

Quote

From Billy Conway (@bonescon): Is it time to revisit whether the Eagles really won the Bryce Huff for Haason Reddick swap? It seems like Roseman may have some regrets about paying all that money for Huff.

Not yet, Billy. The reality is that, on that great New York Jets defensive line, Huff was viewed as the team’s most natural pass rusher. That doesn’t just go away. So he didn’t get untracked on the hockey rink everyone was sliding around on in Brazil, or against an Atlanta Falcons team that was running the ball exceedingly well—getting the Philadelphia Eagles front on its heels and staying out of obvious pass situations. I wouldn’t turn that into a referendum on the signing just yet.

Also, the reality is that Reddick’s time in Philly had simply come to an end. He wanted more money, yes. But there was also the matter of his overly-aggressive, upfield style of play. It was a problem for the Carolina Panthers and became one last year when then-defensive coordinator Sean Desai put in the Vic Fangio defense, which requires more of edge players than hunting sacks. With Fangio himself coming in this year, that fit was going to be shaky (the Jets’ style of defense, on the other hand, is actually ideal for the way Reddick plays).

If I were you, I’d just give the Huff thing time, and know that getting a third-round pick for Reddick was a good thing for the Eagles, regardless of whether Huff works out.

I didn't realize Derek Carr is 6-2 against Fangio

Belicheat hired yet?

Hope not but hasn’t been pretty. To be fair everyone has looked terrible. Praying he turns it on because we desperately need it.
