What I'm saying is the issue is not Huff.

This is the same guy. Do you think he all of a sudden completely forgot how to rush the passer?

Maybe, maybe not. I think it's hard to say really. Some guys get money and phone it in. It wouldn't be the first time someone looked good one place for one year and then never did it again.

Wonder if he took any accountability. He has no issues burying others it seems so hope he keeps it that way with himself.

Fangio might get the whole year.  But how long does Clint Hurtt last? And does Howie have to go face him or will they send big Dom to deliver the news?

Two games, folks, two games.

I'm not going to panic until week 7 (6th game).

It will be interesting to see what adjustments Fangio makes.

We played the first game on a crappy field, second game against the best power back/OL combo we'll see all year (b/c we don't play outselves).

To me it's more like 9 games because last years issues are still prevalent. That stink hasn't worn off.

I wish someone was able to obtain the messages in the accountability group text. It’s probably a fascinating read.

Fangio is going to get the whole year. I’d be really shocked if they fired him middle of the season. Especially seeing what happened after they essentially did it with Desai. Also they respect him too much to do that.

that said fangio deserves criticism and so do the defensive players after 2 weeks. Their EPA through two games is far worse than EPA under Desai. Heading into November the eagles were 17th in EPA.

On the hurts part, it’s why I said they’re not moving off of him until after 2025 at the earliest. His contract doesn’t really allow for it until that point. Now they might position themselves so that after 2025 they have so they have a potential plan for after 2025. But then again we still have 15 games to play this season before they’re gonna start making any judgment on that. If it is at the end of the 15 games what they feel isn’t "good enough” that’s when they’ll  have that discussion.

on the defense with Fangio, I said this after the game and people wanted to get upset by it. You’re not paying Fangio the money that you’re paying him and bringing him in as he was the inventor/genius behind this defense for guys to not play better under him than Sean Desai. He was brought in because he was the master and was going to get more out of these players than any other coach with this system. on this blog and Eagles fans and even the team threw Desai under the bus. He was the problem with the defense. The personnel was only a little bit of the problem and their coaching was really bad. I’m not defending Desai, i don’t think he’s a good coach. But you got the master and the architect of this scheme, and yet I would argue it’s still bad. I would argue guys like Josh sweat, Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter actually played well the first month of the season last year under Desai.

yes they have a personnel problem. that is also obvious but this scheme seems to be another problem. And so far is fangio not getting anything more out of certain guys that we were banking on when we hired the architect of the system then our previous much maligned previous DC. Imo there’s 3 issues on defense: 1) lack of personnel 2) scheme and 3) fangio being a great DC but not being able to help players we brought back make jumps under his coaching

Not shocked.

I really do not think the primary issue is talent on the defense.  There may be a lack of talent positionally vs. what Fangio's defense requires but I don't think that accounts for the poor performance. Fangio had an extremely bad game plan against Atlanta.  Yes, Huff and Sweat stunk but if you are getting gashed in the run game playing nickel, you have to change the look.  At the end of the game, they had 3 plays in a row with what looked like busted coverages that led to the TD.  The team is getting gashed in the run game because they have the DT's playin one gap and slanting making it easy to move them in a zone scheme. It is a lack of competent coaching.

Zim essentially said the exact same thing…he didn’t have them coached up, that after Micah said it was on the players.

You’re not gonna get an argument from me about the coaching. I said after the game the eagles did not pay Vic Fangio to get Desai and Patricia results.  He was supposed to be a significant upgrade over what you had last year. And he was brought in because he was the architect of this defense and he was a mastermind that was going to get more out of players who were here than the previous coaching staff. The fact is we are getting about the same out of a lot of players we expected fangio to help improve.

that said I do think they have personnel problems to be a SB caliber defense. For instance I also don’t know what the F happened to Josh sweat from the first 6 weeks in 2023 to where we are now. That guy has fallen off the planet.

He could have some sort of injury but he looks like he has no motor now.

OK, he's still learning? What is he learning, how to not suck? And Baun has NEVER seen a cut block?

Yeh, that’s a BS answer.

This is just false and revisionist history. Jenkins and McLeod were good. Patrick Robinson played arguably his best year because got moved to the slot. Rasul Douglas is still an NFL starter. Mills and Darby weren't good. Mixed bag overall. Better safeties (largely because Gardner-Johnson can't tackle), worse corners.

LBs were one of our better corps, though obviously not the best. Nigel Bradham played good ball, Kendricks was Kendricks.

Schwartz actually has a history of poor secondary play within his schemes, and it's because he's probably one of the best around with front 7 scheming, but his back 4 scheming has always been pretty bad, dating back to Tenn.

His defense got exposed in the SB and he didn't really recover in Philly. I don't know how he did after he left, though.

His defenses here were typically ranked middle of the league most years, the SB year his defense was 4th in the league. Yes, Brady gashed him for 500 yards in the SB. Thankfully our offense won that game, and the big BG strip sack.

The last 2 years the defense has been at the bottom of the league. I'd take a Schwartz defense that's ranked 12th or 15th compared to 27th or 30th, that would certainly help!

Personnel, you're describing the SB team. Schwartz was here for 6 seasons. The LB group he had for the SB wasn't there every year guys left over the following 2 seasons.  McLeod was good early on, but declined over his years and missed games due to injury.

In Schwartz later years in Philly he had guys like Corey Graham, LeBlanc, Sidney Jones a bust, Darby, Kamu Grugier-Hill, Michael Bennet, Haloti Ngata, Orlando Scandrick retread type players. Derek Barnett a bust 1st rounder (for us), Nathan Gerry, L.J. Fort, Duke Riley, Shaun Bradley, K'Von Wallace, Genard Avery, Steven Nelson, Anthony Harris, Christian Ellis, Josiah Scott, Jacoby Stevens... real great cast of characters there.

no....he's seen them, just maybe not as focused as he did Monday. He'll likely get lots of practice on them now that tape is out there though.

I mentioned this earlier, Jim Schwartz‘s best coaching might have come in 2018 with the Eagles. They lost Ronald Darby. They lost  Mills. They lost McLeod. They lost  Maddox. Jernigan wasn’t the same player after his incident and got hurt. And yet by the end of the year he had that defense top 10 in points per game allowed. They were actually competent going into the playoffs. Do you want to know how good of a coaching job he did? The Saints put it on the Eagles around midseason for 48 points. By the time they got to the divisional round of the playoffs, they held the Saints to 20 points. And it’s impressive because all those guys I mentioned weren’t there. They had some guys who they picked up off the street and Cory Graham.
