He's winning the Heisman.

A few thoughts...

1. Shipley needs some snaps. Gainwell is the JAGgiest dude on this team.

2. Calcaterra should not be outsnapping Stoll. Smitty is a better blocker than Calcaterra.

3. Mitchell is going to be that shutdown CB draft pick we've all been waiting for.

4. Baun and Dean are becoming a real nice tandem. I'd like to see them start talking extension early with Baun.

An undersized LB needing more DL size in front of him to make plays? Who knew!

Thank you New Orleans for staying in 21/12 and not playing 11. Kept Maddox off the field.

The mistakes are brutal and if he doesn't stop those it's a big problem.

That said I think sometimes people watch other QBs and only see their best plays and watch Hurts and only see his worst. I've yet to see a QB this season who hasn't missed a read or a throw.

When it comes to QB play, I think the bad plays almost always outweigh the good ones. The bad ones tend to lose you games. Now we can disagree about the interception yesterday, because I happen to think Devonta ran his route like he was Quez, but there is no excusing his fumble. Taking a sack on fourth down was pretty bad too. Last week he punted the game with his awful interception.

It worked out well in the end, but his throw to Johnny Wilson was pretty impressive. Unfortunately he dropped it. People won’t give Hurts much credit for the long catch and run to Goedert, but he did check to the play.

When was the last time we drafted a defensive player who played 100% of the snaps in their first season. I'm glad we got Mitchell and he's the player we hoped he'd be.

18 snaps for Huff? He must really suck - Man needs to do something pretty quickly

I can't remember a FA signing that has missed this big since Sconce Maxwell

That back judge should be flogged for not blowing the whistle on the play where Devonta got hurt. He had three guys on him and they carried him back several yards. The hit by the DL that did the damage was vicious but legal but should have been blown dead.

It was legal in one sense since the whistle had not blown but it was helmet to helmet as well.

Spot on. I think Hurts has grown quite a bit as a QB, at least in the early showing. Especially given the injuries. The problem is he continues to commit the 2 cardinal sins as a QB: turnovers and negative plays. You could be prime Brady but if you keep commiting turnovers and taking bad sacks then that's all the conversation is going to be about. And justifiably so.

I'm really hoping he can figure it out. And Siriani can stop being an idiot.  This offense has the potential to be special when everything clicks.

Yeah I’d say Smith and Johnson are definitely going to miss next week. I think it’s hard to come back the next game from a concussion.

That depends on the concussion.  Judging strictly by body language after the injury, I suspect Smith got his bell rung level.  Back when I was in high school, we would "shake it off” and go back in the game level. Lane was hunched in such a way, it looks like more cobwebs for him.  Protocol underway.

I'm a better blocker than Calcaterra and I'm almost 70 (ok, I'm exaggerating, but just a little, jeez he's bad).

Baun is the "tweener" that struggles to win jobs in most schemes, but seems to be a great fit for what Fangio is trying to do.

I can see why someone would be irritated with CJGJ's antics and Carter going off on the sideline yesterday, but you need that type of stuff specifically on defense. It's more attitude than anything. And it's good seeing guys give a crap and actually hating the person on the other side rather than always being buddy-buddy with them. If CJ were on the team last year there is zero chance he lets Bradberry get little brother'd like he did by the 9ers pre game.

Carter is a legitimate psycho though so the challenge for him will always be finding where the line is and not going over.

That was Cary Williams with the sconces. 🤣

But yes, Huff is giving off very Maxwell vibes.

Maxwell. So what are some viable options at DE? We can’t really trade huff and I can’t think of anyone who may be avail. We’re in a tough spot

Yeah, I think if Brown is on that route, it's a TD, Smith didn't break hard to the ball and shield off the defender.

The fumble was bad, running left wasn't, later he did so and threw a strike for a 1st down, but not securing the ball was.

Hurts does fall into a bad habit of playing "hero ball," holding the ball too long trying to make a play.

But only 3 games with Moore, learning how to play "real" QB instead of trick plays like the RO. His head is probably still spinning from all he's had to absorb this fall.

Still waiting for Moore to break out a conventional RB screen, that was the bread and butter for AR and Westbrook, and this OL is more athletic.

We're still favored in his model to get the #1 seed in the NFC. #2 is New Orleans, which makes yesterday's game big for tie-breaks.

Seahawks IMO the biggest threat outside of SF because of their schedule. Like ours, theirs is soft UNLESS they get into wars with the rest of the NFCW.

This is a very winnable conference.

Think 3 DL should be the basic front in almost all situations, then swap a LB for a DB in nickel, a DE for DB in dime.

The 3 DL not only is harder to run against, it's better at generating a pass rush, and opens blitzing lanes.

I'm holding out hope that they get better as the season goes as opposed to last year.  The early bye might help in this case. That next game after the bye will be telling

Anyone have any conspiracies on why Isiah hasn’t really seen the field at all?

Or just numbers?

I refuse to think about any of that until we actually play good, smart team football. Until then, it’s just a trap to get pissed off.

I'm not giving up on Huff quite yet, unless he's injured, he didn't forget how to pass rush.

I think Fangio's DE/LB role is a work in progress, after this game, I think he's moving closer to a conventional 3-4, and Huff and Sweat are odd fits, better coming in on passing downs in a 4-2-5 or 4-1-6 where they can be more like stand up DEs than LBs. Baun, Smith and Hunt are close to "real" 3-4 OLBs.

Oof - I messed up the bad FA signings.

I think the Jets and the Seahawks system amplified how good these players are. Similar to how we used to get second round picks for avg qbs with Andy.  The system matters for sure.

That looked like plays I would see in high school where they held the player up so that he could be gang tackled.  That was dirty then and it is dirty now.  But it’s legal until the whistle blows.

After last year, can't argue that.

I still think this team is in there somewhere.

I agree, just hope he's not a one year wonder for us.
