I know the near term injuries are concerning, but this is a really good roster.

The OL is solid.  Jurgens looks to be a top-10ish center in the NFL.  Becton looks comfortable at RG.  We have to solid backups in Steen and Johnson.  We have four legitimate weapons in Brown, Smith, Barkley, and Goedert.  And even though he is imperfect, Hurts is still a reason why we win games.

Hopefully the defense we saw on Sunday is what we'll see going forward.  Carter will be All-Pro by the end of the season.  The edge guys look like they have a pulse.  Baun is a real LB.  The biggest part of this is seeing Mitchell already playing at a high level.  Nailing a first-round CB pick is huge.  And we still haven't seen what DeJean can contribute.

If Sirianni can figure out how to stay out of the way, the combination of Moore, Fangio, and talent should gets us very far.

Only if he can sustain it.   He flashed a lot last season early, and then disappeared.   He can't do that again.  (He was also rather invisible for the first two weeks this year.).   So far this year he has had one game of impact.  The rest has been rather ho-hum.  That's not good enough to be an All-Pro.  All-Pros do it consistently.  He's yet to prove he can do that.   Hopefully he does, because it would be HUGE for this defense and team.  In fact, without it, I'm not sure the defense can sustain itself.   He's that critical to their success.

But, as you say, the pieces are in place around Sirianni if he doesn't flub it.

Question at large, in recent years it has come out that there seems to be a link to football and ALS, is there also a link to Parkinson's?

He played 326 games in his career.  He must have averaged at least 3.07 concussions/game to get to the thousands.

That was the question for years when Ali was diagnosed but looks like having had at least one concussion in your life increases your Parkinson's risk from 2 in a thousand to 3 in a thousand (i.e. correlated with about a 50% increase in risk.)

I remain a Gainwell guy. I'd like to see them give him a few more carries.  The Eagles have handed the ball to someone not named Barkley 3 times total.

I’m not one to overreact, but man I wish they took Drake Maye

Until AJ is back I say we ride Barkley as much as possible. He can rest during bye.

They are occupying the unblocked end.  It's just that Hurts no longer beats the unblocked player to the edge.  The play below was right after Goedert's first long reception in the first quarter.

So if 96 is in position to make a tackle on Barkley if Barkley got the handoff, is he occupied?

Yes.  That is the play design.  If he stays home to deal with the RB, the QB should be able to get to the edge.  If he moves to take away the edge from the QB, the RB gets the ball and runs through the gap.  In this example, Granderson was ready to tackle Barley, yet was still able to chase down Hurts.

Yep he's not adding much. He's a football lifer so he has some knowledge but it's always been obvious he's not that smart.  Not all coaches that win are smart but it certainly helps.  Agree on roster tho DEs still a big concern.  I'm not completely out on Nolan Smith.  I think he still could develop as he gets more PT

The Bengals could do nothing to stop Daniels last night.  McLaurin roasted both of their CBs on deep passes.  Daniels faced a fair amount of pressure but was able to move effectively and get the ball out.

I said it in December, if he stays healthy (big IF) Daniels will be the best QB of that draft class.

Wonder why he’s putting this out now…

Not like we have any depth there, Nakobe goes down then we have trouble. No reason to just cut White.

My point was that if Hurts cannot beat the defender he is reading and he has made the read correctly, then the option doesn't give the team an advantage.  He's not occupied by the threat of Hurts running or the threat of Barkley getting the handoff.

You really gotta act like you won the World Series because you won a division title. Hate it. Stupid.

Normally I’d agree but the fact the Phillies only have 12 division titles since 1883 i feel like probably should celebrate it.

Anyone ever wonder why there aren’t more white defensive tackles? I get the lack of CBs, not too many white guys can run a 4.3, but just be fat and strong? Tons of white Olineman, but the only good white DT that comes to mind is Kyle Williams, who retired 6 years ago. The rest are rotational nobodies like Beau Allen

OK.  So the odds are still rather low.

And as I am seeing what you presented... if you are a person who never had a concussion, your odds are 2 in 1000, but if you have had a concussion, you are no longer a part of that population and join the population of people who have where the odds are 3 in 1000.   Am I interpreting that correctly?

For a mild concussion, yeah. For a more severe concussion, that jumps to almost 4 in 1000. Study didn't indicate what the risk was for multiple concussions.

Basically... its a situation that's exactly the opposite of the desired situation.   You want two guys to threaten one, but instead you have one guy covering two.   That's bad for the offense and its why the RO is garbage this year.  Hurts doesn't have the speed to get around the guy being read.

There's actually a much clearer link to Parkinsons I believe. Parkinsons is linked strongly to repetitive head trauma (see Muhammad Ali).

EDIT: WGB best me to it

I'm still tentative about the defense. New Orleans game plan was pretty weak and even after they lost two of their interior linemen they just kept doing the same old run it out of 12/21. I don't know if the defense we saw Sunday was the result of a good defensive game plan or a bad offensive game plan. I think we might still have some growing pains when teams play primarily 11 and spread the defense out. We'll see.

It's certainly way more encouraging than where we were a week ago. There are still a lot of questions this team needs to answer but if they can answer those questions and put it all together, the NFC is wide open.

If they don't celebrate winning the division, then they will never realize Stubb's full potential as the Vibes guy, and they'd be better off with a better backup catcher.
