Geno Smith = Jalen Hurts

Jared Goff had a perfect game but not a perfect passer rating

It’ll be a shame if the Eagles can’t right the ship because the NFC is pretty wide open and who knows how long that window will last. Detroit looks good but their defense is gettable, SF is ravaged by injuries, Washington looks good but who knows how they’ll look as the season goes on, same for Minnesota, and then there’s Tampa who just flat out owns us. None of these teams are unbeatable with the talent on this team although I’d prefer not to run into Tampa again.

Quinyon over Arnold continues to look like the right choice.

I seem to remember one poster here saying Arnold wasn't going to be that good in the NFL... 0 people bought that.

One has a legit QB throwing the ball, the other has Hurts. Dotson isn't great but you have the be thrown to in order to produce

Dotson is a WR that benefits from the ball being thrown on time. Hurts almost never throws on time anymore and hasn't since 2022. Not sure what people expected.

I’m officially at the part of the eagles season where I watch other teams offenses and defenses and can’t understand why the eagles offense never has guys wide open, or why their defense never looks aggressive and flies around

It's actually really clear. The offensive scheme  is designed to work a certain way, modern NFL schemes rely on timing and windows and zone overloads, and passing concepts that are hard to defend. In these situations, some of the most important stuff is timing of release and throw, throwing on time, etc. Hurts does not throw on time and so everything we do in the passing game is on 'hard mode', because he's not allowing the scheme to assist him. When you combine this with having really good players at the position (WR) it means that his issues are masked by players who can surpass the lack of playing within the scheme.

Or put differently, Hurts became too reliant on having good players at most positions, and because of this, he is not a good distributor of the ball, or manager of the game.

Fun fact, a great way to tell if this is an issue for QBs? Look at how often they're spreading the ball around. If they rarely spread the ball around and seem to get completions to relatively unknown guys, that typically means they're not allowing the scheme to help them much.

Wtf is he supposed to say Sirianni blows? If he was here they’d stop doing that ****.

Twas a joke.  But since you asked... yes, he should say Sirianni blows.

All the social media stuff….Slay playing grab ass with Parsons on the podcast, etc are great indicators that our stupid society has now carried over in to sports.

Just absolutely no pride in anything.

Seems like this team, and the sport in general, align with my values less and less. Oh well….I’ll still be pulling for them. Just differently.

Kind of wonder if he didn't get used to having elite talent around him in college.

Bama and Oklahoma usually have great players.

That’s more of a Slay thing that anything.

His receiving corps at Bama had 4 first round draft pick WRs, maybe more.

His receiving corps at Oklahoma included CeeDee Lamb.

So, yeah, he could have gotten spoiled.  But, even in college, he was more of a running threat than a passing threat.  He passed enough to get them to respect it, but really was a runner more than a passer, which is why he was benched during the National Championship in favor of Tua.  And then he went to Oklahoma, put up crazy numbers both as a passer and runner, but playing in the Big 12 at the time... they were allergic to playing defense, so you take those numbers with a grain of salt.

And now in the NFL, he's a greater threat when he can be a running threat than as a pure passer.  Seems we know what his ceiling is.

This was the weakness category in Jalen Hurts' scouting report. Has any of this changed?

Has issues sustaining rhythm as passer with so many off-schedule throws. Inconsistent patience allowing routes to develop. Slow recognition of early throw opportunities. Leaves slants and crossers behind targets. Misses checkdowns and opts for harder throws. Deep arm dip into elongated release. Forced speedsters at OU and Alabama to slow for deep throws. Needs to get better at trusting his pocket. Quick to drop his eyes when pressure mounts. More likely to void pocket than climb, scan and throw from it.

It always has.  You just don't like this iteration of our society?  As for the Eagles, Slay is really the only one, so he can't be the measuring stick.  But I think it speaks more to the lack of leadership in the Eagles organization than it does to pride and society.

I would ask about your thoughts on the Kelce's doing their podcast in season the past two years, interviewing opposing players and coaches, being cozy with them.  Same as what you think Slay is doing?

🤣 my bad 🙋‍♂️

I'm glad to see there's pushback from fans about Slay, not that it means anything.
