I mean watch him play.  Watch his highlights.  He is physically gifted and has dominated when he gets one on one.  he wants to be.

He's in his second year and Vita Vea is a veteran who plays in Tampa so he's used to this kind of weather. It wasn't just Carter. Several Eagles were puking and left the game not to return and no Bucs left the game with heat issues. Maybe Carter is just a young guy who hasn't mastered these types of nuances yet and will once he gets older. And don't forget he went from playing 50% of the snaps last year to like 80% this year and he didn't play this many in college either. So insanely increased workload plus, here go play in realfeel 104 degree heat.

Brandon Cooks out at least this coming week possibly longer. He developed an infection in a knee after a procedure a week or so ago. Had to open him back up and clean the infection. Dropping like flies down here in Texas.

Bland, Parsons, Lawrence, Williams, Phillips, Edoga, Carson, Thomas, Cooks.

Hopefully they bring up Flournoy.

I'm still curious to how Carter holds up over the season. Fangio doesn't traditionally rotate guys the way Eagles typically do and Carter is playing a lot. He was at 563 snaps his rookie year which comes out to 35 per game. This year he's at 199 already, so basically 50 per game. On this pace it's about 300 more than last year.

The bye week came at a good time considering the injuries and the state of the team. But I think come December we might have been wishing for a bye week later in the season.

Don't disagree that Vea is a veteran and he's more adjusted to that weather but for Carter to be a complete non-factor, again. It's just alarming to me for a guy who is supposed to be the next great thing at DT. Great ones find a way to make an impact on the game. He isn't even Corey Simon yet. I'm not giving up on him because his potential is just so damn exciting but man, he sure is disappointing.

Count me in on the unimpressed for Carter. Besides the Saints game he hasn't shown why he was picked that high or praised that much

I remember the drooling during the offseason when people said Carter and Davis would devastate Olines and QBs. Hasn't happened

It did in the Saints game. How you can be unimpressed is beyond me. Is there a better DL in the league, other than Chris Jones? If so, who?

Carter has it in him.  We need to see it more consistently.

Jalen Carter has been called the next Aaron Donald, a prospective DPOY player and the best DT in the league by MANY of the talking heads out there. I'm sorry, he's not even close. I wasn't a fan of the Carter pick because of the red flags and you also didn't see his effort game in and game out. However, watching Carter last year changed my tune on him. I LOVE when Carter brings it. He's unbelievable and a true joy to watch when he wants to be great. The problem is, he only plays up to his potential every few games. He had a year to watch Fletcher Cox and learn from him how to be a pro. Doesn't appear he did. He's still playing next to 36 year old BG who brings it on every damn snap. Doesn't appear that Carter is trying to emulate that either. There was a fire lit under him for the Saints game. What caused it? Why can't he bring that intensity every game? Jalen Carter is holding himself back. At some point, we have to accept that it's who he is. He's not wired like the great ones and that's not something you can fix.

Jalen Carter has played in 20 games. He has 6 sacks and 36 tackles. Compare that to just Donald's rookie season of 9 and 48. I don't want to hear that he's getting double teamed. Donald was too. No one EVER questioned Donald's character or his drive to be the best in the game. With Carter, we're happy if he shows up every 4 games. Great players are great ever game and every snap. I think we'll be lucky if we get Aaron Donald at 31 years old type of production out of Carter.

Was there a fire lit or did the Saints offensive game plan, where they let us play 5 on the line, let him actually play to his potential? It's likely a combination, but he does seem to play harder when he knows he's going to get some help out there, when it's a 3 or 4 man line, does he go at the same level?

If he's the new Fletcher Cox, then that's where he needs to be.  That's on par with Cox's progression.

Cox was roughly 35 per game in year 1, then up to that 50, mostly 60 snaps per game.

It's easy to be unimpressed when you see the potential in one game and then the next 3 you see nothing. Give me a consistent GOOD DT over a Great DT once every 4 games.

This doesn't include the Bucs game, but the stats are pretty elite despite the lack of sacks. Carter is the real deal.

Yeah no idea how anyone can question Carter’s talent.

He is the real deal - that’s WHY he’s double teamed 67%+ of the time he’s on the field.  In the ONE game this season when he wasn’t double teamed as much (Saints) he looked like an All-Pro.

It's hard to know what is related to effort vs. scheme.   Maybe it was the weather but I see that as a coach preparation issue.   He had as dominant game against the Saints as we have seen a DT for the Eagles have since the days of Jerome Brown.

It's not a one time thing though. It's a pattern. He shows up every few games. He hasn't had back-to-back dominant games in 20 games played. If that's a scheme thing, then the DC sucks because he can't figure out how to scheme for his best player. If he truly is the best player, he shouldn't need a scheme to show up.

I got to thinking about this exact thing the last few days, primarily because Hurts  is such a hot topic on the board here. The one thing that I can say is very glaring to me is that Hurts does not throw to his receivers unless they are very open, like have their man beaten by 2 or three steps open. Many QBs, frequently will throw into tight coverages, especially slants and stop routes 5-10 yds (primarily in the middle third, where several of you have already said he doesn't throw to, charts show that as well). I haven't seen Hurts make those kind of throws, is it a confidence thing, or is it a fear of throwing a pick? If the Eagles receivers are getting the 2nd best amount of separation you have to ask yourself how good could this offense really be?

That’s good going forward

Kinda feels like we’re damned if we did and damned if we didn’t. If we don’t get healthy and get them playing better now, the December games may not matter anyway.

Well, prior to the season starting, PFF had him as the 9th best DT in the league. I am not saying the link below is a list of DT better than him, because I do not think that PFF's grades tell everything about a player. There are intangibles left out that also should be used when grading a player, but this list at leasts gives you something to compare him too.

and yet, Hurts threw the 3rd most interceptions in the NFL last season .......

This is the main thing…I’m on the no more coddling boat.  Change the playbook so the primary read is between the numbers for every play.  Trial by fire…i accept all int’s as a result.
