You're allowed to throw the ball to the middle of the field?

509 yards. Wow.

Jesus, Kirk threw for 500yrds and 4TDs

The eagles have significantly underperformed on expectations so far.

But is there a world where these teams that have beat them (ATL and TB) are actually pretty darn good? And the eagles are not as bad as we think they are right now?

Youd like a truly good team to win these tough games and we are 0-2 but I wonder if at the end of the year these are looked at as 2 of the better NFC teams and maaaaybe the eagles arent quite as bad as we think they are right now.

Mo we’re pretty bad right now.

It seems so.  But next week, can we be unburdened by the burdens of last week which was next week the week before but week be double last week next week? Can this team still show some improvement with the significance of the passage of time?

Yep, and this is the issue with Jalen and throwing the ball.

I have a different take. Just a thought.

Maybe the person who actually got on Jalen's case about fundamentals that had him progress in 2022 was not Shane, but Brian Johnson, and when he was promoted to offensive coordinator he no longer had the time to babysit Hurts as a professional, and that's what caused the regression, which holds true even to this year. Just a thought.

Or it could be just Nick Sirrianni calling bone headed plays that is not suited for his QB's skill set...

Okay but then what about this year? Since he's still holding onto the ball way too long and not throwing on time and seems to have almost completely forgotten what timing throws are?

I still feel Sirranni is involved in the play calling and this is probably not a true Kellen Moore offense...

I think this comparison might make our defense look a little less awful, but that head to head game makes our offense and qb look worse.

Need an accurate qb who knows how to throw with anticipation and timing for that. Even the biggest jalen defenders know that's not his game

What is his game at this point?  Physical running?

😆 I’ve been to the bye. The bye is secure.

Bye week hot take.

I dont think Slay said anything wrong, or even slightly offensive about Gardner-Johnson on the podcast. He said when you talk trash you have to back it up, and Gardner-Johnson knows that.  He said when you dont back it up, youre going to hear about it and Gardner-Johnson has it coming. Basically sounds like he is laughing knowing about how the philly fans and media will be on him. Importantly so as not to sound like he is on a pedestal, he mentions that he has been there himself.  Gardner-Johnson as a pro trash talker knows this. Slay didnt criticize his play, or his talking. And Slay didnt say anything CJ doesnt already know. Hes been around long enough to know how it goes.

I think its ridiculous how fans hate on players with happy outgoing demeanors. Surely those fun personalities are welcomed in any team. Slay is not some bust who didnt make it because hes too giddy and laissez faire. He is a slightly past his prime pro who knows how to produce at a pro bowl and all pro level. He knows hes old and he seems to really enjoy imparting his knowledge on the youth at his position. He is complimentary of his opponents. That has never stopped him from locking them down. Its possible to be a great player, and a nice guy at the same time. Slay isnt great anymore. But, thats not because of his personality.

What I take from the Mike Evans videos is just that Evans treats vet CBs differently than rookies. And Q is quickly earning respect of the game's elite WRs. Consider those clips from a different perspective. You are a Buccs fan, and they are losing. Are you going to be pissed at Mike Evans for playing fortnite with opposing CBs? Nobody is taking issue with that while he is in his prime and the Buccs are currently a playoff team. What changes based on the results of games has nothing to do with Evans (or Slay). Its YOUR attitude and perspective. Which is not a legitimate reason to hate a player.

I think it's more the optics than the actual words said. The Eagles just got housed by TB. Within minutes of the game ending, Darius took to twitter to post his career stats and take no accountability. Then he follows that up by yucking it up on the podcast of our hated rival. If he wants to talk on a podcast, go talk to Chris Long and Beau Allen., but DON'T go on to a Dallas Cowboys players podcast and then laugh about your teams shortcomings. Clearly CJGJ took it a certain way so it's not just fans who were rubbed wrong.

No issues with happy, outgoing players. I also understand the sports world we live in today is not the same as even 20 years ago, let alone the 80s/90s. But there has to be some self awareness as to how things look and are perceived.

I'll let Jerome Brown close this one out.

Another bye week musing:

Week 1 the Barkley/Shipley package was effective in each of its 4 plays, and looked refreshing and creative. Capable of creating mismatches, and scheming guys open (remember the beautiful pass to a wide open Smith).

Has that completely disappeared since week 1? I cant recall seeing it again.

First play of TB game Shipley was in the backfield with Barkley. He didn't play a single snap the rest of the game.

And yeah, both of these QBs are better than Hurts. Cousins even off his torn achilles being completely immobile, and Baker Mayfield who was long thought of as a bust. Far better.

I thought you were going with Curt and Penix there for sec… although a plateaued/declining Hurts on a $200M contract vs a talented rookie long-term🤔

Throwing the football accurately and on time has to be in every NFL QBs skill set, otherwise are they really an NFL caliber QB?

I think the point @AmericanEagle77 was trying to make is that maybe the lack of day to day coaching of the fundamentals has something to do with Hurts’ lack of success since the coaching changes took place. He’s got it in him, day to day reinforcement from coaching to get the desired results seems to be a necessity if that theory is accurate.

Thats a fair question tbh. I think our teams lack of offensive identity exist because that question can't be answered. We are year 5 into development.... he's faster tebow with better accuracy? I keep saying he is a B- talent surrounded by A+ talent so it looks fine on a highlight film at times. With Smith and brown its just get it near them and let them do their thing. About 4-5 times a game he makes a good-looking throw as well that people can lean on.  What I'm fully expecting in the next 5-6 weeks is everyone is back healthy and a very week schedule coming up, he will look better and a flock of defenders will come from every direction. I'm just glad people are finally seeing what I've been seeing since 2021 season.... what sucks though, it's actually the same problems

Since week 1 the answer has been right in front of these dumb arse coaches.  Nothing has changed.

Stop trying to force Hurts into doing what Cousins did last night. It will never, ever happen.

Run the ball, let that open up the downfield game.  That's what will make Hurts look like a top NFL QB again.  Just deal with this reality.

That will help the defense and Fangios dumb scheme as well.  We're not making opponents feel like they need to score quickly.  When a team feels like they can control the clock and take all day to move up the field, it renders this scheme useless.

It's very, very simple. But until the coaches acknowledge this reality, we're screwed.

I'll take Penix for Hurts straight up and feel we robbed them.
