Lurie should sell the team.

I agree that the game plan was hot garbage.

Having said that, he was horrendous. His throws weren't in the same zip code. He missed Barkley for a walk in TD. He had another game with 2 turnovers (almost a pick six as well) and one of them was a momentum killer.

I expect the offense will look better when the big 3 gets back, but he has been a joke for the large part of the last 25? games or so.

That first play hurts missed to barkley was interesting

Dan Orlovsky talked about how that play is a common play in the NFL and everybody knows how to read the route progression and where to look to manipulate the D and that on that particular play hurts took his eyes backwards through the progression as its intended.

He then mentions that he doesnt know if hurts screwed it up or if hes being coached differently than is the norm on that play?

Im not sure either, but either way the play was screwed up and had it been run the way it normally is it goes for a td instead of a ln incomplete pass out if bounds.

Its a bad look for the coaches and hurts and could be telling of a larger problem

There was some pressure on that play; I didn't have a problem with Hurts scrambling right in that instance.  The problem was he threw on the run again, on one foot, and the ball sailed out of bounds -- when any throw towards the middle of the field was a much better miss.  The play was dead when the ball left the field of play.

For how open Barkley was, Hurts needed to set his feet and let the ball go with some strength.

Barkley would be higher than Henry... if our coaches had a clue.

Joe Jackson never got in.  I don't think Pete will either.

Joe Jackson was part of a group that threw games.  Every indication is that Pete bet on his team (and himself).  Frankly, penalizing any player for betting on his team or himself is stupid beyond belief.  Hell, owners bet other owners all the time in favor of their teams.  No fix involved, just a belief in your team/self and putting your money where your mouth is. WTF is there a penalty for that. Last time I was in Cooperstown, Pete was displayed at the HOF just not inducted.  Hypocrites.  Bet you can’t find a reporter amongst the voters that never borrowed from another reporter (think Hurts lack of interceptions during camp as an example.  What Beat didn’t reference that?). Pete belongs in the HOF.   Lane Johnson belongs in the HOF.   Anyone keeping him out for his PED suspensions is a moron, for example.  F’ing * it if you must but Pete not being in the HOF as a player is just vindictive.  MLB won’t change my mind.  Further, even if they induct him now, I will still have a distaste for not inducting him during his life.  JFC, isn’t "Charlie Hustle”:running out the hit regardless of likely outcome what we want to inspire to?  If the HOF can celebrate the results but not the player, WTF is the point of a HOF?

Just a gut feeling - with the return of AJ Brown and Smitty - this team should look amazing after the bye.

And the defense knows what it needs to do - which is wake the F up.

Go Birds!!

I agree that with the WRs back Jalen will look half decent, as he can go back to locking in on 2 players who get open consistently.

Is this the get-well game for the Fangio scheme, where Watson bursts into flames at the sight of quarters coverage?

To Norman Braman… he will get rid of all big contracts, including Hurts.😉

Sadly I think even Watson will look good against our defense. There really isn’t anything they do well & part is scheme and part is talent. They lack fundamentals everywhere. The run defense is a sieve, no pass rush whatsoever, turnovers are rare and they still allow way too many long drives ending in points. It’s basically the same mess as last year, although the red zone defense seems better and they actually don’t allow 3 & 15 or more to be a consistent first down.
I literally have no confidence in this defense and to be fair, it puts a lot of pressure on the offense. It’s not an excuse for the bad play on that side of the ball, but it doesn’t make things easier when you know that your defense basically can’t stop anyone consistently.

I think the logical counter is to play the 5-man front as it seems like our best defense against the run along with coverage at a normal depth to contest the quick game. We might let up some big plays, but might actually get some stops or even some big plays of our own.

Ty Cobb fixed a game and bet on games. He’s in. Compared to him, Pete is Mother Teresa. I can see keeping the steroid crew out- Bonds, Clemens, et al. PEDs are and should be exclusionary. It’s a problem with Lane. I’m of two minds. If he’s truly clean, absolutely yes. But….

Two items:

1.  Reinstatement

2.  HOF Voting -- Number 1 needs to happen before Rose is eligible to be included on the ballot for votes to trigger #2

Technically, Pete Rose was given a lifetime ban.  Since that has expired, MLB should table his reinstatement for a vote among the owners this offseason.  The MLB Hall of Fame carries the least prestige, IMO, because of the subjectivity and vindictiveness that you spoke about.  To be voted in for Hall of Fame induction, the baseball writers need to include him on 75% of the ballots.  This is where the vindictiveness really kicks in.  Rose wasn't a "media-friendly" guy, so writers will hold it against him that he didn't give any of them a story on his gambling for many years.

Reinstatement should be a yes, but Manfred is the worst commissioner in major pro sports.  Getting 75% of baseball writers to put him in will be a very heavy lift.

Why set your feet when you can throw the ball out of bounds down the right sideline consistently?
