I would be interested in getting McDermott back should that be an option

Not sure when or why eagles brass decided to move on from a D scheme they had so much success with under Reid, and not just move on but went from an aggressive D to basically playing prevent until the O gets inside the 20 where they still play prevent but its a compressed Prevent D due to the short field.

If I had a guess its a direction they took under advisement from the ANALytics department...😒

We have never ever had a perfect defense.  Those days were marred by terrible run defense. The transition years were marred by big plays allowed in the passing game.  And then we switched to elite run D and no big pass plays, but getting carved up by dink and dunk offense.

Currently,  we don't do anything well.

I'd like to go back to a spagnulo D because at least the sacks end drives, and blitzes help create the occasional turnover. But it wasn't perfect and even if we had spagnulo himself again,  there will still be gripes.

Good news for you.  We just moved from Sarasoto to Denver in June.  Sarasota has had flooding three times since then.  Milton will make it 4.

Can’t lie, I’m starting to think of doing the same. This is getting old, fast. Our first few years there wasn’t anything, now it’s becoming a multiple per year thing.

McDermott was garbage when he took over the Eagles defense.  It was top 10 the last two years under Johnson, then McDermott quickly had them 19th and 21st in his two years.  I was shocked when he got the Bills head coaching job — he’s done well, but definitely isn’t good enough to get them to the top.

Would want no part of him back in Philly

JJ didnt care about yards, all he cared about was preventing points, and his Ds regularly finished top 10 in least points allowed.

Vics D plays for FGs, itll let you dink and dunk down the field hoping that once in the red zone theyll settle for FGs, its a gutless passive D

JJ often talked about dictating to the offense instead of just sitting back and letting them control the game.

Vics style as said is passive wait around fingers crossed that the O will make a mistake, it dictates nothing.

I hate the design and goal of a Vic defense.

And sure theyll be gripes but the gripes wont be,...we keep losing because our D is hot garbge...

Traditional Defenses were built from the middle out

DT, MLB, S

JJ built his Ds from the edges in

CB and DE and funnel it all into the middle.

People tend to think JJ didnt value LB he and Reid just sucked at drafting them, Barry Gardner was the 2nd pick in the 2nd Round, Quinton Caver 2nd round, Matt Mccoy was 2nd Rounder, Mychal Kendricks a 2nd Rounder.

JJ and Reid werent ignoring LB they just sucked at drafting them

Seems Howie took a page from that book and didnt burn it ...☹️

Its not about gripes its about effectiveness in contributing to winning and JJ style D in my opinion was just not more entertaining to watch but also more effective

There were a lot of factors that went into that, not limited to but including the massive decline in the defensive talent on the team.

If I remember reports were that players didnt take him seriously, not just because he was young but also looked really young

Imagine as a player going from a legendary figure like JJ to a dude that looks like Opie.

If I remember Reid said something to the affect that he put Mcdermott in a bad situation and he wasnt ready.

Hes proven himself now though I cant see him ever coming back to philly after how he was treated by the fanbase, but I prefer his style of D over the current trash scheme.

I’d agree with you on Devin White. I was referring to how the Jets fired Saleh, firing him and escorting him out. Childish.

Saleh is a grade A dbag, perfectly fitting end to his career there.

Including losing Dawkins was a small factor lol

1991.

I think what we're seeing is the natural adjustment to the NFL favoring high powered offenses.

Defenses are starting to orient themselves towards preventing big plays.  Thus, passing statistics are going down and the value of running backs is increasing.

Not saying he isn’t, you just don’t do business like that. Fire him on an off day, etc..

Oh my bad thought you were talking about White.

Doesn't count.  I was 5 years old so I didn't really get to experience that.

My god.  I knew the dude was trouble but didn't know he accounted for half of all NFL arrests :o

I know it could be much worse, but I really hate the FO and coaching staff.

Just ready to clean house. Howies a cap wizard, but he likes to stick his nose into everything and sucks at drafting outside of elite talent that falls to him. Not gonna start on Sirianni. Fangio and his defense suck, too.

DeJean is the new Nickel starter.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I have more faith in the defense than the offense getting it together.

Yet that Defense still existed in time ...

Im not refuting or confirming this, just wondering what he did to lead you to believe this?

He pee in your cheerios or something?

😕.  Unfortunate for you, but trust me, it happened... and the defense that year was glorious.  Even more glorious than the other defenses that also managed to be the top defense against the run, pass and overall yards... because they had literally no offense to work with for about half of the season.

Yes very small minority I would guess
