What happened two plays prior doesn't mean the QB doesn't take the heat for poor ball security.     That throw was 100% on Hurts.  Throw it away, punt it away and give the defense a chance to hold.  Just horrible.  Even without the safety coming over, the throw was inside of Smith where the LB was draped all over Smith.

Yeah i hate this butterfly effect logic. He made bad throws, no need to try to blame it on the turf or another player.
