He had his full offense, off a bye week, against a team without their starting LB, without their 2 starting S’s, without their top CB most of the game, against an Offense that didn’t score a single TD and struggled to score 20 points. He wasn’t awful by any means but he wasn’t great either.

On paper this team should be putting up 30+ each game

Disagree.  We saw a lot of new stuff in Week 1.

He said that 95% of the offense was new in the summer.  My guess is that Hurts doesn't feel comfortable doing the new stuff.

You really think that Sirianni is taking the new stuff out of game plans?

Hurts doesn't feel comfortable with the new stuff that was supposedly doing so great at in the offseason?

Yes we did see some new stuff week one, lots of motion more under center stuff and its gradually gone away to the point where we got we we did against cleveland, limited motion, zi think one play under center that wasnt a tush push, looked the same as kast years constipated offense.

Was it gradual? Felt like it was there and then poof

For the offense and why it’s been struggling you basically have to have one of three beliefs:

1. Kellen Moore, who had three top 5 offenses in Dallas and had the Chargers going well before Herbert went down last year, just woke up one day and forgot how to scheme effectively.

2. Nick is inserting himself into play designs and play-calling, even though Lurie basically neutered him in the offseason and relegated him to a cheerleader coach.

3. Hurts isn’t capable of running the type of offense Moore usually installs and is holding the full capability of the offense back which is why it looks identical to last year under Johnson.

I’ll go with #3.

Nick will be fired at the end of the year at the latest and they’ll run it back with Hurts again with another HC next year because there is no realistic out to his contract any time soon. But by then everyone will realize where the real problem lies and that’s with Hurts.

The only other theory that might be out there is that Roseman wants a specific, stock style of offense being used to hedge against the constant OC carousel they’ve had for a while now to make things simpler and more stream-lined for the players. He’s had this philosophy on the defensive side of the ball with Fangio’s system for the past several coordinators. So it’s not completely out of the question that he’s doing the same on the offensive side.

You forgot the oldie

4. They are saving the new stuff

I seem to remember that the consensus on TJ at the time was "he's okay, but we can do better".

LB position isn't what it used to be.  You're more likely to find a solid to good one then a great one.  Besides Fred Warner how often do you hear about them.  Maybe Roquon Smith but I don't think he's been playing up to his standards.

We had Jordan Hicks, let him go.  We had Edward's, let him go.  Both played well after leaving here.

Maybe they just don't care about the position.

I think what's missing from this offense and making it great is the run game.

Run game needs to be the identity.  Let's start being a more run heavy offense and utilizing all the RBs, Barkley, Gainwell and Shipley.

We can't be a pass heavy offense.

It's also quite a phenomenon that Hurts played really well yesterday, whereas Barkley tried his best to lose the game for them, yet the narrative is that the team can't go anywhere with Hurts at qb.

Quite the characterization.

Look, I want him to play better too.  But this is a little disingenuous. They had an early bye week and just about everybody ranked ahead of him in yards and TDs has an extra game.  If you add one more game to his stats with 250 yards and a couple TDs, then he is top 10.

I’m just happy that he had a turnover free game… Hope it’s the start of him protecting the ball better.

Jalen hasn't passed for over 185 in two games this year so far and has only thrown for 2tds twice this year. I think you gifting him two passing tds and 250 yards passing if charitable

What is the over/under on Dean not being able to tackle Daniel Jones?

Yes

that said , this team could be 4-1

Not really.  You’re not winning at least 2 games without Barkley’s performances in those games. (Green Bay & N.0.)    And you’re likely not winning the Falcons game without Barkley’s performance in that game - so even that game would be a wash with his drop.

The Browns win is the only win we can say we could have likely won even without Barkley.

TBH we’re probably 1-4 at best right now without Barkley.   That’s how much of a difference he’s made.  Easily the offensive MVP to date.

Something is clearly off with Sirianni. He's either burnt out or just succumbing to the pressures of the job, half of which was imposed by the owner in whatever weird stipulations were put in place for him to retain his job. Every week he's just becoming more and more of a distraction. He barely does anything at this point but is somehow becoming a detriment to the team. I'm not going to speculate on the whole random head shaving thing besides it's just weird for someone not even balding to buzz his entire head between the last practice/PC and the game Sunday. Especially when he's been on the record saying he gets haircuts at the facility on a regular basis.

Going after fans is just dumb in general. Going after Eagles fans is just beyond idiotic. They are lucky to be on the road the next two weeks. Say what you will about it being not a big deal, but now fans know how easy it is to get to him. The majority of the fanbase already isn't a fan or want him gone as it is and now the boos will just be louder and louder.

The kids thing is just tone deaf at best, manipulating them at worst. I thought it was always a little silly how many times he's already trotted them out there to begin with, but no harm no foul. Putting all 3 out there yesterday after everything that already happened is just completely unnecessary. They had a sitter for the game so they had someone that could watch them. Then polling the kids and sidetracking the whole PC was just cringey.

Lashing out at the media is just more emotional outbursts that doesn't do anything besides make everything a bigger story. The whole "every bad play was my call, even on defense" is just immature. At one point during his PC he said he wasn't even aware or paying attention to the game when asked about a specific situation. The identity of the team at the moment is a talented but unorganized and football dumb group of players being held together by an over emotional, immature baby.

Was hoping to see we fired Siranni today but we did not

It’s funny when he was here the board said he sucked and didn’t make any plays.

I didn't think that at all, but I'm a huge fan of traditional 4-3 type lbs and a Wisconsin fan. Pff rated him high (79.7 overall and the only lb who rated above 78 in all categories that year). Him getting into the starting lineup really cleaned up a lot of problems. People just expect superstars everywhere. I'll take 130 tackles a year....

Hurts' issues are foundational to our long-term prospects this season and beyond.

Barkley has had three bad plays.

He was openly laughing with someone else in another thread about being a troll. That's why I don't waste my time.

Suggest you do the same.

The hair thing isn't that big of a deal for me. He could know someone who was diagnosed and shaved his head out of support but won't say because it's not anyone's business

It depends, if it's a straight line pursuit he's got a good chance. If he's moving sideline to sideline, forget it.

Can we go more than a game with FJohnson at LT?  Going to need to sort that out.

I agree it's not a big deal. The problem is everything else surrounding it makes it compound the issue.

When it first came out he shaved his head, everyone just laughed and made jokes. If the team just played well and nothing weird happened, I doubt anyone would even be talking about it still. But when the guy is showing signs of being emotionally unstable, it makes you start to question everything.

You see how he responds to pressure and being on the hot seat.

The kids thing can be cute and fun like in the offseason once to give them a fun experience in a light hearted interview. But high pressure regular season games, nah. Isolated, it's not the biggest deal but all the things that stack up that he does paints a bad picture.

I'm just hoping he's better on the left than he is on the right side of the line because if he plays like he did against the Bucs, no, they cannot go more than a game.

Mailata is getting an MRI this morning. Just based on his body and seeing how he barely could walk with crutches, it surely seems like an IR stint is in his future. They need two roster spots also, so I expect that's going to be one of them.

Eagles' Nick Sirianni, sick of booing, jaws with fans

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni was seen on camera yelling and gesturing toward a group of fans at the end of Sunday's 20-16 home win over the Cleveland Browns as boos rained down for parts of a game in which the offense sputtered at times and the talent-rich Eagles struggled to separate from the now 1-5 Browns, Time McManus of ESPN reports.

Sirianni, wearing a wry smile and offering a wink, said he was "just excited to get the win" in explaining his interaction with the fans and praised the crowd for being loud and inducing a couple of Cleveland false-start penalties.

But when asked about the jeering the Eagles received in their home stadium, Sirianni acknowledged they could do without the negativity.

"We thrive off the crowd when they cheer for us. That's all I'll say," Sirianni said. "We hear them when they boo. We don't necessarily like it. I don't think that's productive for anybody. But when they cheer for us and when we've got them rolling, we love it."

Sirianni has been a subject of criticism following last season's collapse, when an Eagles team that started 10-1 skidded to a 1-6 finish, leading to the firing of his offensive and defensive coordinators.

The on-field product this season has left something to be desired.

The offense has been a point of frustration given the level of talent -- the group boasts one of the best offensive lines in football and features A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Saquon Barkley at the skill positions -- versus the results to this point.

Since scoring 34 points in the opener against the Green Bay Packers, the Eagles have averaged 18 points in the four games since. Brown, though, has appeared in only two games because of injury, and other top players such as Smith and tackle Lane Johnson also have missed time.

Although not overwhelming, there were some sections of the crowd that started "Fire Nick" chants during a couple of down moments in the game.

And Sirianni was by far the most demonstrative he has been on the sideline this year. He jawed with multiple Browns defensive backs, including corner Greg Newsome II, and grew animated with referees on multiple occasions.

He’s averaging 239 yards passing per game so far this season. It’s still the same point.

My only point is if someone is going to use total yards rankings, then total games played matter.

I am not trying to defend Hurts here…on the whole, he is under-performing in my opinion as well.  Rather, I am trying to defend basic logic.

Isolated by itself, it's not a big deal at at all. Combined with his behavior, the team's slow starts, lack of preparation, his rants at fans, his erratic and defensive responses in the press conference...it looks like he is unstable and reactionary.

If he buzzed his head and came out stoic and focused and the team won in a dominant performance and then he acted like a professional mature adult, people might say shaving his head is bad ass. He is acting like an angsty teenager, seems emotionally and mentally unstable. There's a reason people have compared it to Brittany Spears shaving her head when she had a mental breakdown.

Also, not the biggest deal in the world, but just head scratching of why we bothered to sign Parris Campbell to the 53 over Sydney Brown just for him to take up an active spot and not play a single snap all game.

You know things are going well when you're celebrating your $55m+ QB for the first time in 10 games, has not committed a turnover.

Ouch

1. It wasn’t exactly the blowout the Eagles were looking for. The Browns came in 1-4 on their third straight road game with a quarterback who can’t throw a football, and the Eagles are coming off a bye with all their weapons back at full strength in their own building, and they had to really scramble to escape with a win. Hey, they all count the same, and 3-2 is a better place to be than 2-3. But the Eagles’ inability to run away from this truly awful Browns team is concerning. The Eagles have now gone 16 consecutive games without beating anybody by two possessions, and that’s insane. The last time they won a game by more than eight points was Miami last October. For those of you who keep track of this stuff, this is the Eagles’ 3rd-longest streak of games without a two-possession win in 40 years. So while the win is a positive, it’s hard to feel super upbeat about a four-point victory over one of the worst teams in the NFL. Will this team ever play well for an entire game on offense, defense and special teams for 60 minutes? It’s been almost a year since they have.

6. The Eagles’ embarrassing 1st-quarter scoring issues continued. This is now the first time in franchise history they’ve failed to score a point in the first quarter through the first five weeks of a season. Overall, they’ve now gone seven straight games without a 1st-quarter point going back to Julio Jones’ 12-yard TD catch in the loss to Arizona last year in Week 17. It’s the first time they’ve gone seven straight games at any point without a 1st-quarter point since a stretch from Week 8 through Week 14 of 1994. Their last longer streak was an eight-game streak in 1936. Figuring out how to get off to faster starts was a priority during the bye week for Nick Sirianni and his staff in the self-scout process, but no answers yet. This offense just isn’t prepared when games begin, and until they get that figured out, they’re just going to keep making things difficult for themselves.

The offense is fine, it will get it figured out any day now.
