So people think Nick is still designing the plays and Moore is the one calling them. I thought that was verified to be incorrect?

So basically every time AJ Brown is lined up on the left side, he’s running streaks.

That must cause nightmares for opponents’ defensive coordinators to scheme against.   How creative. SMH

These are his targets!!!  Not all his routes!!!

Some thoughts on yesterday after having time to digest it all. We were basically one boneheaded play away from a comfortable win. So you can either be happy we overcame that massive momentum swing, or lament that crap like that keeps happening.

Offense

- Overall, I'm not as down on the offense as most. They basically had 9 real drives in the game. Scored on 4 (44%), punted on 3 (33%). The other 2 were the 4 minute drive to kill the clock that ended in the red zone, and the craptastic blocked FG at the end of the 1st half. But on 2/3rds of its possessions, the offense got into scoring position. I'll take that.

- The slow starts on offense are killing us though. I'm really not sure why it's happening, but on the 1st 3rd down (incomplete to Goedert), Hurts had nowhere to go with the ball. On the 1st 2 drives we missed a 3rd and 5 and a 3rd and 6 -- those are manageable 3rd downs we need to convert. I'm not sure if the team is coming out unprepared, or if the defenses are doing things we don't expect at the start, but it points to coaching either way.

- Hurts was good yesterday. He seemed not to bail out of the pocket nearly as much despite there being decent pressure at times. When he did move, it appears he was focused on ball security and playing mistake free football. If Jalen plays like he did yesterday, we can win a lot of games. No real complaints with his game yesterday.

- Barkley...woof. I love the guy, but that brain fart on the 2nd and 1 reception before the blocked FG simply can't happen. Then on 3rd down, it was a tough blitz pickup, but he got smoked. Clearly his worst game as an Eagle. Had we lost that game, we could have pointed at 2 games Barkley cost us. For a team that claimed it focused on the details all bye week, that was terrible.

- AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith are really good, but I was encouraged by Calcaterra stepping up after Goedert went down. It felt like the game plan was a lot of 12 personnel, and then Goedert went down after 3 plays. I do wonder if losing Goedert impacted the blocking in the run game more than the pass game. Schwartz seemed determined to stop the run as well.

- Maybe we should run mesh routes a little more often...just saying.

All in all, I feel better about the offense after yesterday. The Browns defense isn't terrible - Washington put up 34, but they got 215 on the ground thanks to over 80 from the QB. The Browns were giving up 326 yards/game going into the game, 12th in the league, and only 184 yards passing (7th). We put up 372, including 256 passing.

Defense

- Overall, a solid performance against a terrible opponent. The Browns were healthier (Conklin back at RT) than previous games to start, then lost their center. But you hold a team to 244 yards and 9 points, and you've done your job as a defense.

- Cooper DeJean - wow. So nice to see him on the field playing well. He's just a physical presence in the slot, and seemed to have good coverage when tested.

- Overall, the tackling was VASTLY improved. Part of that was getting DeJean in for Maddox, but overall (other than one play where CJGJ just decided to stand still), the team tackled well and was more physical.

- Bryce Huff finally made an impact. Seems like Vic is now asking him to basically be the guy he was in NY. 4 point stance and just attack the QB.

- I will never forgive CJGJ for costing Q his first career pick.

- Really didn't miss a beat with Rodgers/Ringo taking over for Slay.

- Kinda feels like we should see if Burks or Trotter can offer more than Dean at this point

- Can we ever cause a turnover?

That's 2 of the last 3 games where the defense looked very good (Saints game). Very interested to see how we look in NY, especially if Nabers is back. The defensive line played better yesterday, and having DeJean allowed for some different pressure looks.

Coaching

- So I guess Michael Clay sucks again. In all seriousness, in the last 12 months we have lost 3 special teams standouts (Ellis, Jobe and Johnson). I wonder if we are paying the price.

- All the stuff with Nick, the fans, the PC...it's different. Either he's a moron (90% chance) or he is embracing the villain role to try and galvanize the team (10%).

I know some fans aren't happy with the Win but I am.  Look It's a long season, The Saints was the hottest team before they played us and now they haven't won a game since.  The Ravens started out 0-2 and haven't lost a game since. The point is the Birds have time to improve and our Bye came at the right time.  Even though they will most likely be playing teams with losing records over the next month, I'm confident they will play better as the year goes on.  I think we've been spoiled the last two seasons.  The Eagles were 20-2 over their first 11 games the last two seasons (Including starting 5-0 in back to back seasons).  Funny GMen and Bengals are our next two opponents.  So we got a preview tonight.

Gee what a surprise.  You could be diagnosed with AIDS and you'd probably have some sort of positive spin angle on it.

I think what's missing from this offense and making it great is the run game.

Run game needs to be the identity.  Let's start being a more run heavy offense and utilizing all the RBs, Barkley, Gainwell and Shipley.

We can't be a pass heavy offense.

That has worked out well when it has been really tried. Running first doesn't seem to be what Jeffrey, Howie et. al. seem to desire though. I buy into the view that Sirianni is going to do his best to implement what Jeffrey and Howie want, perhaps not what Sirianni would prefer.

We're at an interesting spot with the offense. I tend to lean towards there being a limit on what we do because Hurts really doesn't like certain things, including throwing into the middle of the field.

If it's truly just because Nick wants to keep running the same plays and Lurie continues to allow it, then they can all go including Lurie himself.

It makes more sense for the limiting factor to be Hurts, but who knows?

I do think part of the lack of passes to the middle of the field is a function of Hurts being only 6'1". Landon is 6'6", Cam is 6'3" and Mekhi is 6'7".

I think there is more to you drive percentage assessment of the offense.  There were only two really impressive drives until the final one.  The go ahead FG drive started at mid-field.  Half of the second half yardage came from only two plays.  They aren't showing a sustainable offense, IMO.

Again, those are only showing the routes Hurts throws to him.  Not all the routes Brown ran.

The Eagles have the seventh-ranked offense in the league despite Brown, Goedert, Johnson, Smith and Goedert all missing time.

But tell me again how Hurts is the issue.

Barkley directly cost us 1 game, could have cost us the game yesterday and had a crucial mistake in the Saints game. He cleans up his act and Brown stays healthy the offense is fine.

The defense? That's another story.

"He cleans up his act" like Barkley isn't the reason we aren't winless:roll:

Agreed.  He's doing a better job of staying calm in the pocket.  I hope that leads to him starting to be more effective going thru his reads.  If he can take that step then he would be on his way to transforming his game which really must happen if he is to progress and improve as his legs start to slow down.  He had a couple of really nice throws over the middle to Calcaterra.  He will need to be able to hit those to the TEs and also some of those 10-20 yard curl-in type patters to the WRs.

That Ringo hit on Strong yesterday was a hell of a lick. Of course Nakobe missed the tackle but Ringo cleaned it up to say the least.

I don't think that height is the problem. On a handful of plays over the season, maybe, but there have been short QBs that get it done.

That said if he can't use the middle of the field because of his height then why in God's name did we give him all of that money?

This was a 4'2" QB passing chart yesterday. I'm not buying the height excuse.

Kyler Murray Week 6 Pass Chart

He’s averaging 239 yards passing per game so far this season. It’s still the same point.

My only point is if someone is going to use total yards rankings, then total games played matter.

I am not trying to defend Hurts here…on the whole, he is under-performing in my opinion as well.  Rather, I am trying to defend basic logic.

I can respect that.  It's just frustrating knowing that someone like a Cousins with this team would put up 7 on 7 numbers weekly....also frustrating that most qbs do the same thing to this defense....what I'm trying to say is this team is frustrating lol

Brees is a hall of famer and a top 20 all-time QB. Jalen is not.

I wanted to touch back on this and said this yesterday:

The DL will look a lot better if they can consistently pin their ears back. They aren't great, but playing close or from behind constantly is not in their benefit.

I think the run game is stoutland. Some of the RPO stuff is also a carryover from last year's offense.

:roll:that's also from the QB that was seriously questioned about his work ethic

Meanwhile Hurts is praised for his work ethic and you get

Jalen Hurts

Welp, that’s what he did here … tackled ball carriers. But, he was called trash for not making enough plays or if he over perused a play. The guy is a good player just not a superstar.

2022 - 159 tackles and 2 sacks

Ill take that vs our top lb for 23

95 tackles

The DL will look a lot better against depleted O-lines down to third stringers. That's all we really have to go off now as they only looked passable against the Saints and Browns.
