I'm guessing he does. AJ Brown said the same thing and missed 3 games, and may have only avoided IR because of the bye week. Mailata's just looked way worse than Browns as well.

How many short-term IRs do we have left (obviously JM is worth it)?

Do they have to be designated right away? Is Bradberry a short-term IR guy or is he just IR? I don't see any room for him on this roster so it makes no sense to bring him back from IR unless it was to trade him, but I don't see that happening either.

Technically 6 as Ainias Smith and Albert O are the only 2 so far officially using a spot.

There's Covey and Bradberry on IR that will probably take up 2 more.

Also have to see whats up with Darius. If he needs his knee scoped again that could take up another.

Just the two that were put on IR at cutdown are designated right away. Everyone else is as their practice window is opened.

Can you imagine?

The come downs from the benders are always tough.

I'd cut Gates and sign Driscoll. Gates is pointless on the team.

Us fans can wonder and debate who's really calling the shots, but the answer to every one of the speculations is that the coaches know the truth, and if any of them are true what are they doing about it?

  • Is Siri dictating what Moore calls?
  • Is Hurts handcuffing Moore because he can't/won't do certain things?
  • Does the front office analytics require them to do certain things?
  • Is Moore completely running the offense yet not calling a creative game like he did for previous teams?
  • Is Moore limiting plays he calls because of Hurts limitations?
  • Is Moore actually designing and calling more balanced offense but Hurts changes the plays?
  • Did Moore call more creative plays in a new offense in camp where Jalen did well, but is now calling things differently?

You know who knows the answers to those questions: the team. The coaches and players know the truth about these things. So if any of the fan speculation about the problems are true, then what are the coaches doing about it? If the QB won't run the offense the HC and OC want him to, then why aren't they doing something about it?  If there is conflict between the HC, OC and QB then the entire team will see that up close and know about it. These things would get to Howie and Lurie, and it would eventually come out from reporters.

Moore was supposed to have figured it out in the offseason and preseason on what Hurts can and can't do but I guess it's possible he's still learning. Though it's a little troublesome that it's still happening into week 6

I think the least likely one is the front office analytics requiring them to do anything

I think most likely it's Hurts can't run the same offense Moore had before. But Moore should have known that and adapted or not taken the damn job

It's been repeatedly mentioned that it's Moore's offense and Nick isn't even always in the meetings but I keep thinking in the back of my head that Nick is still heavily involved in the designing of plays and that's why it still looks very similar. It seems like all we've done is add some presnap motion

The Muppet is right

Makes Nick look like a silly boy. I'd love to poach Aaron Glenn from that staff.

Unpopular opinion but Quinyon actually broke up CJGJs interception more than the opposite.  CJGJ was in a better position and got there first.  Quinyon is awesome either way.

Regarding Sirianni:  there's definitely a lot of truth to the narrative of Lurie neutering Sirianni and then asking him to prove his value with no responsibilities.  It's a weird place to put your head coach.

The only option Nick has to get out is to go deeper into the crevasse like Jack Donaghy.  So he shaves his head and picks fights with fans. Perfectly logical.

The Eagles only ran 2 play action passes yesterday. It's honestly laughable how poorly managed this offensive structure is.

Truly.  Barkley as your RB and only two PAP?  I am probably wrong, but Hurts likely struggles with it because it requires being able to read the field quickly after the fake.  I think for Hurts to read a defense he can't ever take his eyes off it.

I hope we do just so he can be on our IR after his first series.   He belongs here one way or the other.

How much of that is structured and how much is what Hurts can’t or won’t do? Same question regarding the reduced amount of motion.

We ran the option out of pistol, the scheme is evolving to our personnel.

I sure hope not, but it makes a lot of sense.

I keep coming back to quotes from two QBs I’m not a fan of either, but they know how to play the position at the highest level — Brady and Rodgers.

— Brady said he knows where he’s going with the football on almost every play by looking at the defensive alignment; the first read becomes where he sees the mismatch

— Rodgers said the game slowed down for him when he started watching the defense immediately after the snap, rather than his offensive players.  He already knew exactly where his targets would be at the top of their routes, so where the defensive players went dictated where the open man would be.

It feels like Hurts is worlds away from reaching those levels.

He can run play action just fine he's done it before.

And say for a second he couldn't. Say he can't run play action and won't throw over the middle. Then he shouldn't be starting games anymore or even be in the NFL for that matter. It's honestly one of the most absurd things I've ever heard. That you have a QB who just can't do basic QB things.

He still has a long way to go to earn that contract, but if the 4-point stance is what made him look good in NY, why did it take them 5 games to figure out the 4-point stance would help him play better? Clearly, things weren't working. Why wait so long?

If he can still play, why not?  Won’t cost much and would be a nice depth/rotational piece.

Can’t is an absolute.  I’m sure he can, but not consistently well and he will default away from it.  He has two elite WRs who will win consistently on the outside so he peppers his targets to the outside of the hashes.  It just so happens he’s also had a relationship with both of them that pre-date their Eagles days, so the familiarity shapes how he processes in real time.

His continued development as a player, though, will be contingent on his ability to become more nuanced and less predictable.

Maybe I'm a coward. I'm not sure. But there is something about losing that makes me want to stay away from this place even though I've basically been addicted to this site (in its various forms) for the better part of two decades. So after the Bucs debacle, I haven't been reading the Blog. I did post my predictions before the Browns game just to get it in. And I made a special teams post in that thread. But I've stayed away.

I was hoping to jump back in last night, but I just didn't get the vibe I normally get after a victory. I dunno, I guess it's just that I sensed that (almost) everyone was going to be negative about the game...a game that we actually *did* win. And kinda sorta dominated throughout. That game being close is basically just the fact that a freak play moved the margin ten points. Granted there is no guarantee that Elliott's 57-yarder which was blocked was going to be good, but you get the point.

So after five games we are now 3-2. We haven't played well. Or at least as well as we were hoping or expecting. There have been moments. After a slow start in Brazil, we moved the ball quite well the rest of the game. Since then we've been sporadic. But really, isn't that a natural byproduct of missing KEY components like A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Lane Johnson, and most recently Dallas Goedert? Those four players have played TOGETHER for about four quarters plus one series this entire season. Sure you'd like to think your backups can come and in still function well but that's pie in the sky thinking. I think the reality is, you're going to suffer without STAR players like that. Maybe I'm just looking at the glass being half full but I'd like to believe that our offense is still going to be an upper tier unit...provided we don't suffer notable injuries the rest of the way. (And to this point, I have no idea what the prognosis on Jordan Mailata is since I've stayed away from the news since the game.)

On the other hand, the defense concerns me. As it should, I believe. There were improvements against the Browns, but I'm not sure they should be the measuring stick to gauge things. What concerns me is that I don't think Jordan Davis is ever going to be "good". He might be okay and perhaps even dominant on some plays. But I don't think his entire body of work is ever going to be at a high level. I think Josh Sweat is at best an average edge rusher who might make a good play here and there. I think Bryce Huff is going to go down as one of our worst-ever free agent signings. I made the Roy Hinson comparison a while back and I'm going to stick with that. I think Nakobe Dean is simply too small and too average of an athlete to ever be the player that people envisioned when he was drafted. He makes a play here and there but he also looks pretty bad at times. I'm not 100 percent that Nolan Smith is going to be a bust but I'm kinda convinced he'll never be a star. He does play hard, however. I'll give him that. He'll chase a play and get involved.

On the plus side, I think Quinyon Mitchell is going to be the real deal. Barring injury he should be a top corner here for a decade. It's about time we've had a home grown one of those. Also -- and I think this is one really big takeaway from yesterday's game -- I think Cooper DeJean is going to be a good player. He certainly seemed to be a huge upgrade over Avonte Maddox.

I guess I'm just rambling here. I really don't know what to make of this team. But we're one dropped routine pass from being 4-1 and we still have a winning record. We're still "in contention", certainly in the division. There is a lot of football to be played. I remain hopeful.

P.S. I hated the decision to throw that deep ball to Brown which ultimately iced the game. I was overjoyed of course when it worked out. But it was such a low percentage play. And I STILL hate tush pushing on third and short. Oh, and I didn't even cheer when DeVonta was rumbling to the endzone. I saw a Browns helmet on the field and was convince the play was going to be negated by a flag for hands to the face. The flag never came. I don't know why.

I give you our starting safety

I agree with a lot of your points and especially your assessment on the players you mentioned.  I too feel some apprehension about coming on here at times because I know the mood will be mostly negative, and I try to be positive about the team’s prospects.  I think it comes down to a few factors.

1.  The team started 10-1 last season and the wheels came off at that point (before that point, to what extent is debated).  I think a lot of folks will ignore a winning record because of this.  It’s not realistic to expect the team to be 8-0 or 10-1 every season, but the fans want wins and style points.

2.  Most posters on here wanted Sirianni fired after last year and will find any reason to denigrate him.  I like Nick more than most; he’s trying to do too much instead of being an over-seer, and it’s affecting his decision making.  He is not, however, constantly calling plays nor is he still running "his offense”.  It’s trending right now towards this being his last season in Philly.

3.  There is significant frustration around the offense.  I’m as guilty (or more) as others, because I think it’s crucial for our QB to perform at an elite level given an elite contract.  Perhaps that’s not realistic, but I need to see continued development that I’m not seeing.

4.  The defense has been the source of a lot of "misses” in personnel evaluation or development.  Davis isn’t who we hoped, nor is Dean or Nolan Smith (yet).  Huff appears to be a square peg in a round hole — to be charitable.  I’m hopeful Fangio can find a way to keep the defense a mid-tier unit.

I did watch an analysis of the DAL loss against DET to make me feel better.  The Eagles are still in a better position organizationally than them, IMO.

I’m hopeful Fangio breaks the news to him that he’s a NCB when Sydney Brown returns.  I’m not sure Brown is a player, either, but I’d rather see him learn.
