All of this is well and good, but it does nothing to explain how a third string quarterback with no career starts would be undefeated or only have one loss.  The hyperbole I was speaking about is assuming that he would make no mistakes.  Pretty big assumption I’d say.  It wouldn’t be a big leap to say he might’ve even made more mistakes than Jalen has through the first five games.  Just saying

When you have (quite closely) a Pro-Bowl roster starting on offense:

- Lane Johnson

- Jordan Mailata

- Lane Dickerson

- Dallas Goedert

- AJ Brown

- DeVonta Smith

- Saquon Barkley

You should look great almost every game - NOT like a "constipated offense”.

Granted, AJ has been out and Smith for a game  and now Goedert - but you have most weapons in most games.

Everyone is happy that we beat the Browns with nearly a fully healthy roster on offense.

The Browns game was a wake up call.

The game should have never been close.

If you should check down - check the f down and don’t play hero ball

He absolutely had at least 2 check down plays for decent gains and passed them up in the Brown's game.  THIS is my pet peeve w Hurts.  There is short stuff there and he doesn't take it and instead forces the ball on longer throws.  With these generational receivers (pretty close if not all the way there), I get the desire to throw the 50 50s, but mix it up man.  Take some chain moving easy stuff.

Then why does Ojomo take a mirrored path on the other side?

I was going to say the same thing. Ojomo is just a step or 2 behind, but that just shows you how quick Carter is.

Please show me the "plenty" of roll outs FROM UNDER CENTER WHERE HE TURNS HIS BACK TO THE DEFENSE.

Under center, you got me. We haven't run it but 4x per game at most.  Hell, maybe cumulatively.  There were what, 4 under center last game total?  The two tosses and 2 play action out of pistol?

I meant he has turned his back, albeit, out of shotgun.

So, maybe he is uncomfortable so close to the line?  Kinda nuts to think that a QB "doesn't like/trust" PA.

I'm sure most know I've been a Huff truther, but there was something I saw or read that dived into his get off time on 3rd downs.

Huffs 3rd Down Get Off Times:

2022 - 0.67 (1st or 2nd in league, depending on source)

2023 - 0.72

2024 - 0.76

Week 6, when he moved to the 4 point stance - 0.69

Nice.

True - if we had won the game 23-9, I'd probably have just given the Shorts D more credit and be dissatisfied with the ongoing Q1 trend.  Instead, we got a tied game at half and respond by allowing a 4 minute CLE drive (missed FG) and then our offense goes 3 and out.

The Lindros era and the Legion of Doom was my childhood and the Red Wings killed that era, but the Richards/Carter/G/Simmonds era was SO fun to watch. It helped that those years were my prime sports fandom years too, but I just loved watching those teams play.

It's a shame that our great teams have had to meet generational opponents.

Flyers had the Red Wings

Sixers had the Lakers

Eagles had the Patriots

Phillies had the Yankees

You are forgetting that the Flyers of the early 1980s were going up against perhaps the greatest dynasty of all-time, the Wayne Gretzky led Edmonton Oilers.  Talk about a stacked team!

Not just the Browns game but the last year of games. The Eagles offense is and has been stacked. NOTHING looks easy for this team. They struggle for every win. They can never put together a complete game. They RARELY start fast and it takes them almost a quarter to figure things out. Why can this team never start a game on the right foot? Never. It makes no sense whatsoever.

Just before my time but for sure they were. Add them to the list of teams we've had to face.

How does a 26 year old QB, who hasn't had any major injuries just lose a step though? Lamar Jackson is 27, has been beaten up far more than Hurts and doesn't miss a beat, even when he put weight on. It makes no sense for Hurts to have lost a step. He went from a dynamic runner to a QB who can't get around the edge. It's one of the more confusing things.

It's truly a mystery...he looks now like he's running through mud. Take a look at some of his runs from '22, looks like a completely different athlete.

The defense actually won us the Browns game - kudos to them for one of their best performances of the year.

Exactly my point.

And, as most of you know, I’ve been defending Hurts the entire time.

But it’s time for #1 to step up, imo

Never. The word you were searching for is never.  They never start fast.  Never. Never ever.  🤣

So I looked it up.

I hate Washington fans more than the next guy but damn....

Anyway, the video went viral and apparently Lamar Jackson liked it

If you watch the last video, you'll see the dude is a serial POS.

This is Baltimore's version of Bacarty in real life.  That's probably his kid holding the video camera.

It was only close because of the way the 1st half ended.  That last drive should've been a TD or FG (and 7 less points for Cleveland).  What happened at the end of that drive could happened with Pickett or McKee as well (because what does the QB have to do with Barkley going out of bounds too soon or a blocked FG returned for a TD?).  Maybe it's just me, but last Sunday's game was the first one I didn't feel anxious about in a long time.  I realize the score was close at the end, but it never felt that way to me.

I will say this...it would be nice for the Eagles to blow out a team for a change.  It's been a while.

Yes, despite the CLE offense being a tomato can I was much more impressed by the defense,  They played tighter coverage, finally.

I would say their performance against the Saints was more impressive.  And that the game against the Browns fairly well matched the expectations for that game, whereas the Saints game, they far exceeded them.  The Browns are one of, if not the worst, offense in the NFL.

Yep.  That’s why I said "one of”.  The Saints game was about as good as it gets on defense.

I'm kinda using your post as a jumping off point and not really contributing to the backup QB stuff.

It's hard to say what the last drive of the half would or should have been. If we are looking at just from the FG attempt onward, I don't think Elliott had much of a chance at converting a 57 yard FG with the ball in the hold like this.

image.png.e7156540ebea5a6907ae5c002d8e59c6.png

Browns also had their own list of miscues which changed the game. Graham with the TFL followed by the missed 52 yard FG. Browns getting up to Eagles 13 but having to settle for a FG because of penalties. Then again getting to the Eagles 3 but settling for a FG because of penalties. It's hard to say exactly how close the game was or wasn't. I kinda agree there wasn't much anxiousness but that was mostly because Watson is one of the worst QB's in the league and the Browns just stink on Offense.

This. The defense playing well against the Browns was supposed to happen, because their offense is awful. What they did against the Saints was impressive, but we can all clearly see now that the Saints really aren't that good.  It was still a good showing, because they completely shut that offense down.  My bigger concern is what defense is going to show up week to week. I'm pretty confident that the offense will get it together, but I don't know if they're good enough to carry this team like they did before the collapse last season.

Yes, the Saints game was excellent, but the Browns game was talked about for the full two weeks leading up to that game about how it was a 'get right' game for the team.  They were expected to do what they did, so their performance, to me at least, wasn't that impressive.  The Browns are broken.  Their highest scoring output so far this season was 18 points, against the nearly as horrific Jags.  Holding their offense to 9 points would be the lowest output they've had all season, but coming off a bye and at home, you'd expect the Eagles to have a significant advantage.

So, I really wasn't impressed by the defense against the Browns.  They basically did nothing more than what they were expected to do.  They met expectations.

It would be nice to get a blowout win.

And what better opponent to do it against then the Giants.

See with all the obsession people have with the Cowboys, I feel like I hate the Giants a little more just because we're close by and have to deal with their fans more.  At least I do.

Hurts does has a baby.

One to nurture and care for.

To provide it with every opportunity to succeed.

Lurie is a surrogate.

That baby is the Philadelphia Eagles.

Are you mid-day hump day boozing again?

Now you’re just being silly.

Holding any NFL team to 9 points is a defensive accomplishment.
