The Saints looking like complete dog doo would have been more enjoyable to watch if we still had a future pick of theirs riding on it.

Meanwhile we COULD be enjoying watching the Dolphins implode this year since we have their third round pick but we already traded it away.

Folks, not every move works out, and sometimes expectations are too high.

Reddick was an undersized pass rushing DE who couldn't drop into coverage, if Huff is best used that way, so what?

Meanwhile, Mitchell and DeJean look like they're reshaping the secondary, CJGJ may be a disappointment, White may have been a whiff, but Baun is a HR.

Becton is another extra base hit, jury still out on Dotson, Barkley is definitely a HR.

So whatever the problems on this team, don't think it's fair to blame the offseason.

1. Reddick could drop into coverage. That’s not saying he was good at it but he could do it well enough as well as play the run. He played 74% of the defensive snaps both years he was here. Comparing Reddick to a guy who can apparently only play in obvious pass rushing situations with an obvious tell is asinine.

2. Huff was the highest paid FA signing this offseason. Obviously not every move works out. But there’s a huge difference between a miss on your top FA which also banked on trading away your best defensive player vs signing some JAG for nothing.

3. If Mitchell and DeJean struggled you would just counter with "they’re young, it’s too early to say”. Mitchell looks very promising. DeJean played one game against the worst O in the league. They have done exceptionally well so far, let’s see what happens.

4. Baun is not a HR. He’s been good to solid. If we’re grading on a "Howie Roseman LB” scale maybe he’s a HR. That’s a low bar.

5. Using just your own debatable assessment, you have 2 HR’s and one extra base hit vs a whiff, a disappointment and a jury is still out. That’s .500 which sounds like a .500 team which isn’t good enough in the NFL.

I’d add becton is also not an extra base hit yet. Besides last year, one of the biggest issues with Becton was that he doesn’t stay healthy. If we get to week 8 and he unfortunately gets hurt and is out for the rest of the year that’s not ann extra base hit. The book on him has been he didn’t stay healthy for much of his career. Thats a single so far with potential to be extra base hit and a hr.

Whiffed so far based on performance through 5 games are CJGJ, white and huff. CJGJ has not played all that well. White couldn’t beat out Dean who’s not very good and never played a snap and we guaranteed him like what $3 mil. And huff was their big spending FA and he’s looked atrocious for like 90% of his snaps.

id add this doesn’t include top 3 round underwhelming draft picks of Davis, Dean and smith

Surprised to see that Davis only got something like 21 / 30% of snaps

he’s looking like a bust

Nah. They were 10-1 last year and people complained after every win.

Because there were glaring issues with the team that made it pretty obvious they would implode.

Then they did

:offtopic:

I’m in a standard scoring league. Got offered Josh Jacobs, DK, Tee Higgins, and Laporta for Gibbs, Kupp, and Kmet. Should I pull the trigger?

He was great week #1 and then quite good against the Saints.  He has been mediocre in the other games.  Overall, he gets a solid to good grade from me and is a big upgrade from last year.  Let's see if he degrades as the year goes on or if he can turn it the other way and get better.

There was nothing to suggest that they would implode/quit the way they did when they were 10-1. Overrated? Yes. Not but 1-6 getting blownout bad.

He’s not getting on the field on passing situations, Ojomo and Booker to a lesser extent are getting those snaps. Against a better offense, that can stay on schedule he’d likely see the field more (also I think he got dinged when he got dumped while jumping to block a pass). That said, he’s panning out to be an early down run stopper that can be assignment sound - not the dynamic player you hope for out the 1st, but not useless.

Eagles 17

Giants 27

Barkley gets over 100 scrimmage yards and 2 TDs but we get torched by daniel Fing jones.

And then he went to the Super Bowl.

As did Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson

Sometimes a mediocre QB will make the SB, and even win it.

Hurts has been in this league now 5 seasons. Lets be honest, 2022 has been the outlier that people want to keep going back to. It's been downhill since then so chances he gets back to that level are extremely rare. Maybe your willing to wait it out to find out, most including the NFL owners are not that patient. Sadly with that contract we are forced to wait a little longer. Unless by some miracle he has an injury or he does something stupid to land him in jail. One could only hope.

If true, then the problem is also the coaches and GM. If the offense is suffering solely because of Hurts then there should be a mutiny from the players wanting him benched. The coaches should be able to put their brains together and figure out how to get the best out of him.

Is there any part of you that truly believes the FO will allow Nick or any coach to bench Hurts with that contract? No chance in Hell. Only way he gets benched over the next year and a half is by injury.

Downhill to still around a top 10 qb?

With an offense dealing with injuries?

Coming off a great performance?

I am happy with that. Sorry if that bugs you.

I remember saying during the Jets game the team would never have a chance at winning a SB and would at best get bounced in the first round.

The offense had a turnover problem and the defense was hot garbage. It was blatantly obvious and people chose to ignore it.

Like many including nationally, I disagree in your claim of him being a top 10 QB. They only had 1 week of both top WRs out with injuries and I wouldn't call the Browns game a "great performance"

Doesn't bug me at all that you support him. Your the outlier of the group just like I was the outlier in 2023 after the SB when I said to trade Hurts for top dollar and never give him a top QB contract. I wanted us to move on from him and take those picks to move up from Saints spot(Carter) to number 1 and grab CJ Stroud. Keep that rookie contract going. People thought I was crazy. Sometimes it pays to be the outlier, however something tells me it wont work out for your projection with Hurts. Time will tell soon enough. We know he will have time to prove it, key is will he?

I agree. Whatever anyone thinks, he has to play at a high level. If he does, this team should win.

If Hurts can just stop turning the ball over multiple times per game, Id be OK with a level of performance like last week.

16/25 for 264 yards, 2 TDs, 1 sack, no turnovers.

That's a stat line I'll take every week.

The stat line is fine, my concern is that CLE was selling out against the run.

They also had a historically low point differential for a 10 win team. I remember it being one of the worst ever.

IMO that's a coaching discussion.

They know what Hurts is good/bad at.  They know what the defense is doing.  Put him into a position of success.  If it's a matter of him making improper presnap calls, then either get the call in early and help him with that or take the ability away.

No turnovers and be better in the redzone.
